Hi Heather, placing a tiny bit of blessed salt on my tongue before talking to my extended family. Lol or when I see I’m getting a bit crabby. I don’t want my words to hurt other people. I keep a small jar in my kitchen. But I have a huge bucket of blessed salt! Yes I cook with it.

Yes ! Just like holy water there’s three types. Holy/blessed, epiphany salt/water and exorcism salt/water. The epiphany is coming up early next year. You can have any parish priest bless your salt/water and your home for an epiphany blessing. I was directed by my priest to use a pinch in the four corners of my room/house once a week.

It depends on what the priest says in the blessing. Many priests just say Blessed in the name of the Father, Son, Holy Ghost & make Sign of Cross. Traditional priests will put an exorcism blessing in salt & a St. Benedict medal. He will specifically mention warding off Satan. If he does not, that protection is not there. Palm & Olive branches on Palm Sunday have God's Mercy descend upon them, made a figure of The Church to go forth in good works, triumph, prepare way of Faith & Justice, remove scandal. Olive branches are given power of spiritual unction & Peace. There is a book of specific, different blessings & power given to candles, rosaries, statues. That is where the accusation of magic comes in. Well, magic is not asking God's Will, leaving God out, invoking materialism, ego, even demons. Catholic is Jesus Christ's power.

Coming from a secular background I hope my kids aren’t “salty” lol😅 I just recently had I guess a deeper conversion at the beginning of this year, still navigating everything(not gonna bother you with my whole life story lol) but I still think things in my secular ways from time to time and I couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit at kids being “salty” because secularly we always attributed being “salty” to like being like angry or bitter over something. Usually priests offer the annual blessing of homes during epiphany. Becuase there is a specific blessing given each year on epiphany. Also if anything has happened in your home involving mortal sin or the demonic, it would make sense to ask a priest to come back again. You can always bless your own home regularly with holy water and salt in order to help with smaller issues.

Thank you for the video. It is the first time I hear about blessed salt. I feel a bit self-conscious about asking the local priest to bless it. Can he refuse to bless it? Is a priest obligated to bless the religious items that we take to him for a blessing? Would you know where it says on writing (in the Cathechism, for example) about the blessing of religious items? Sorry for the questions but I don't know any priest well enough and I fear a reprimand on his part. Many thanks.

The priests all have what's called the Book of Blessings. They have specific prayers for many things, like the excorsism blessing for salt. They use exorcised salt to bless holy water for the Easter water every year so yes they are all familiar with it also. If they do house blessings, which all should do, they always exorcise salt and bless water in order to carry that out.

How? There are fewer than 80 exorcists worldwide. You can, however have any priest bless with the exorcist prayer making exorcist salt, water, etc.
@jeanb.5405
@jeanb.5405 6 дней назад
@@melissaw.5561 ALL PRIESTS are exorcists - they can perform minor exorcisms including to exorcise salt and waters and the Benedictine medal. You do not need an Exorcist Priest (One who performs exorcisms on the possessed ) to bless your salts or waters or oils. Simply ask your Priest to do an exorcism prayer over your medal (again only the Benedictine medal may be exorcised) and water or salt and they will do so. The prayer is different than just an ordinary blessing. Likely however they will not exorcise oil for you but they will bless it - because exorcised oils are specifically used in confirmation and anointing of the sick so this is not something we typically can have.

Ask a different priest. There is a blessing for grapes and first fruits of the harvest in the book of blessing. This is traditionally done for centuries on the feast of the transfiguration. Additionally the salt shouldn't be in the same category as the grapes in your priests mind if he was just unaware of that tradition. Priests must exorcise salt every Easter in order to bless the holy water (Easter water). Also if they do house blessings, which they all should do, they exorcise salt to bless the water and bless the house. If they refuse this you should write to the bishop. And also find another priest to do it.

@rocasey1
@rocasey1 14 дней назад
If you don't not have or cannot get blessed sacramentals, definitely do all the blessings yourself. You have authority over your home and family. However, if you can get them, they are powerful because they have Jesus' blessing. Above and beyond our own personal prayer, Sacramentals are kind of like relics of saints. Relics are explained by this given example: the woman cured of hemorrhaging in the Bible. By merely touching the tassel of Jesus cloak she was healed. Or the apostles in Acts when people are healed by their shadows passing by. These are just some biblical examples, but blessing sacramentals are even different in a respect that she explains is the priest acts in persona Christi, meaning when they put on their stole and bless or forgive, as Jesus said of the apostles, what you forgive on earth is forgiven in heaven, what you bind on earth is bound. He delegated this authority to the apostles who hand it down, through the laying of hands, to all our bishops and priests in apostolic succession traced back to the men who walked the earth with Jesus himself. So the priests forgiveness in confession is actually that of Jesus, and the priests blessing of people and objects is that of Jesus. That is what makes his prayer, and his sacramentals more powerful than our own prayers.kind of like relics of saints. Relics are explained by this given example: the woman cured of hemorrhaging in the Bible. By merely touching the tassel of Jesus cloak she was healed. It is a Really Good Question - The Water, the Salt the Oil have no power on their own they are inanimate objects - creations of the Lord - However when a Priest Bishop or Pope places a Blessing on something such as a medal or salts then where that something goes the blessing goes or where that something stands in place the blessing stands in place. This is why if something is sold that is blessed the blessing is automatically removed because the buying and selling of blessings is an outrage to the Lord. So there are different types of blessings by the Priest - He may simply say Lord bless this item in the name of the Fr Son Holy Spirit and that is it - and it is blessed. Then there are solemn blessings which are referred to as exorcised blessing and this blessing is in depth removing all evil properties from the item and placing a blessing on it that no evil may molest. Any priest can do this. You and I cannot bless the home but we can ASK God to bless it where as the Priest can Bless it or the Deacon. They can say "I Bless this home or item......." You Say "Lord please bless this home or item" As a Parent you have authority over your child so you can say "I bless you in the name of the Fr S HS etc...." But you cannot do this over another person. God reserves the power of certain blessings to the ordained. When placing the salt in your home for protection you simply ask God "Please protect my home or Please bless my home" The Priest has put the blessing on the salt so where the salt goes the blessing resides and so technically you could just place it there and say nothing. Does that help?

My church has holy water bottles where the holy water fountain is, and I think it’s so nice that they give these beautiful Holy Water bottles free to the parishioners when they need Holy Water When Pope John Paul passed I bought a rosary from the Vatican that he blessed, so this upsets me all these years I thought I had a blessed rosary from my favorite Pope 🥲
