For many of us, slowness, stillness, and sabbath can feel unattainable in today's world. It may require us to let some things go - cut the kids' scheduled activities down to one (or none!), spread out the to-do list, rest more and accomplish less. Most likely we'll find that slowing down will result in more peace, a clearer mind, and deeper connection. Here are practical ways to begin living a slower life today 🕊️

Wow! Thank you , this was very thoughtful provoking for me , talking about as adults being more focused on accomplishments not necessarily the process.

Not to be morbid haha but the 3rd greatest regret when faced with mortality is not staying in touch with your friends. Your first tip instantly made me think of this as I really like your tip. It holds a level of accountability and yet simplicity. Love seeing you with your kids, made my inner child happy.

That’s a great point! Hadn’t thought of it, but I’ve heard that before too.

I'm a new mom and it's been a big learning curve being home all the time instead of working my fast-paced FT job. I'm definitely guilty of foregoing process with the goal of getting to the achievement. Or being disappointed when my projects fail even if I did learn something. One of the ways I'm learning to slow down is to look into my daughter's eyes and hold her gaze as long as she's trying to hold mine. It's easy to look past her at times while I'm nursing or trying to do something. But really looking at her and watching her when she wants my attention helps me put in perspective how important this time with her is now, and that the other things though necessary can always wait a few minutes. Thanks for this video I appreciate the insights.

It sounds like you and I had similar backgrounds before becoming moms. It’s a HUGE adjustment! Very rewarding, but also something that challenges me to grow and sacrifice daily. I fail a lot 😂 but keep trying.

Thanks! I resisted it for a long time, but I finally had to admit. I just can’t do as much as I think I can or “should”.

Love this so much! Great, simple tips. Appreciate you approaching this from the perspective that you haven’t figured it all out- sure makes the tone more relatable. Also, I love the length of the videos- short and sweet.

I love these ideas! I'm not so good at the first one...bringing my community together. Because I crave solitude and enjoy my silent moments, I usually prefer time alone with my introverted self. Something I can work on in 2024, lol. Another beautiful video!

@papertownhome It's hard to find the right friendships. Many can be superficial, so it's hard to communicate on a deeper level. I know people who would benefit from slowing down but aren't willing to talk about it or change. How do you stay connected with that type of friend?

@@taniayoungson5614 As a good friend of @papertownhome, we talk about this sometimes. I think we are both learning how to let those friends/community folks learn slowly from us without pushing them away completely. Being in the moment when you are around them can be "catching." I have learned that people will come around when they are ready for it and you may not be there when they do - and that is okay. I remind myself how long it took me to get to where I am as a human and all the failures along the way and that NO ONE would have been able to get me to slow down back in the day. I had to learn that on my own. I got there on my own time, much like most of us do. You have a gift that others strive to gain, but they may not know how to do it (or be willing to yet). They will get there. In the meantime, I have found community in the most unlikely of places and recently (last six months) randomly joined my local library's book club. I knew NONE of those people and they are all easily 20 years my senior, but they are wonderful and I have found them through our love of reading together. I would ask that you find those folks who have similar loves in your community and join them when they open their doors. They want you there.

@@taniayoungson5614 That's a good question and a hard question! I've honestly been thinking about it for the past week and I still feel unsure. The reality is most of my friends aren't as invested in slow living as I am. Of course, that might be why I started a RU-vid channel on the subject, at least in part. There really is benefit in having a community to reinforce the values we want to live out. I think I benefit from having a husband who takes things slowly and values rest. I've also surrounded myself with online influences and I read a lot of books on the subject. But, in regard to staying to connected to friends who live a different lifestyle, I find that I tend to focus on the aspect of the relationship where we do connect. For instance, I have a friend who is SO FUN and full of life and she's the busiest person I know. I wouldn't want to keep up with her pace, but I love to hear her stories and take our kids on the occasional outing together. I definitely don't have any friendships where we're entirely on the same page in our values or lifestyles, so I just put my energy into the areas where we do relate. Does that make sense?

As always, love the content in your video and the few minutes of quiet time it provides. I have to say, your 'assume double time' made me laugh... my husband and I thought painting the external of the house would be done in 3 days.... it's now day 4 and only half way there 🤣. Funnily enough, that's how all of our projects seem to go 😂.

Oh man! Ain’t that the truth. Steve and I just did a “small” porch project that ended up taking six weeks. 😂

Love this!! I also love your decor and how you incorporate books into it. Are you a book minimalist? I would say books and food are the areas I am not minimalist and I am ok with it because they bring me joy!
@papertownhome

Whoa, I struggled with answering this 😂 I guess I hadn’t thought about it before. I’m probably a book minimalist but not super strict. I have a good amount of books that are sentimental so those stayed. And many became decor 😂 which helped me justify it to myself!

For the whole family, we love Outdoor Boys, Dude Perfect and How Ridiculous. Then my daughter and husband watch women's rock climbing and bouldering videos. I think my husband is trying to get her interested in the sport. Also, my daughter and I watch Natalie Bennett vlogs together :)
