I have 3 ROKU TVs - RCA/TCL/JVC - and just discovered that all the remotes work on all the TVs. Now THATs a cool hidden feature! :) I'm a ROKU guy for life.
I needed help on a weekend during the Pandemic 2020 when Roku support was closed. It morphed up to my delight as it answered my question and was clear how to select HDMI as my default screen. Thanks and for reminding me not to give up when technically challenged!
I’ve been ROKU-ing for more than 8 years now and love it. A few years ago I bought a TCL Roku TV. Just recently it has had problems loading most channels so I hooked up my old Roku 2XS to the 3rd HDMI spot and it works like a charm. This information is helpful though. Thank you!
Funny, as someone who has gone through periods of having cable and not, I find myself thoroughly enjoying tv a lot more without cable. In todays market, it's an antiquated way to watch content. I don't wanna pay $60+ per month to watch a million commercials, when I can pay for a couple $10 per month streaming services and get no commercials whatsoever.
I started with a Roku plus on a 24 inch Tv. used that setup for a few months the bought a 32 inch CL Roku TV. i love it Can't imagine being without it. i was overseas for much of the 70s, 80s and 90s, so i'm discovering a lot of stuf that i had no idea had been on TV i the USA.
I was watching vudu and a movie I own was playing after I got my Roku ultra going and every 3 or 4 minutes the screen went black and came back after about 3-5 seconds. I thought it was a bad processor, but checking settings i found data saver was on and it was interrupting the movie to save data! I turned that off and the movie plays smooth now!
Tip #1. Buy the extended warranty. My panel went out a few months past the 1 year warranty. Liked the tv before it died, geek squad couldn't get parts for it so I swapped it for a different tv.
@ almost went that route but was thinking of getting the shield later in the year. Probably won't know though as the + works fine for my needs

@@sawtoothscream1521 yeah I was gonna get the Nvidia shield too but I'm gonna wait until the new one comes out because the Nvidia shield still has the old tegra x1 and 3gb of ram for years which they still haven't updated. Once the new one comes out I'll get it and move my Roku ultra to the living room to replace the old Roku and move that old Roku somewhere else. I only paid $69 for the new ultra.
I just bought my Roku TCL. I'm good with setting up stuff but Thanks for this tip with the 'Power On' settings . I had it set to default (home) but I'm glad this TV let's u change that. Thank u. Does it have 'Picture in Picture' anywhere?
The only thing that I do t like about the TCL Roku tv is that for local channels theres no favorites option. Since there's no numbers buttons you'll have to be scroll down or up several times to go to a certain channel...for example if I'm watching channel 2 and I want to go to channel 30 it's gonna take me several clicks to make it there...😐
Thanks. I have a Roku TV and cut the cord to cable. The only thing I have to figure out is how to watch the Dolphins football this coming fall. I saw a suggestion of playing it on Yahoo Sports on your Iphone and then mirror it to the Roku TV. When I read about Airplay I realized mine doesn't show that as an option. I went to "mirroring" and that's not working and shows no device connected when the roku Iphone app shows connected and works on the TV. Everything is on the same internet too. Can't figure it out. Bill
One thing I don't like about NOT using fast TV start up is the TV disconnects from the WiFi. When you power the TV on you have to wait until it connects to your WiFi before being able to start streaming. Keep up the good work, love the info you provide us Cord Cutters.
I was going to add a comment that is somewhat related to this issue. It does disconnect from WiFi almost instantly after turning off the tv if fast start is not turned on. This means that you can’t turn on the tv from the roku app. If you’re like me and tend to lose your remote then you should NEVER turn off fast start. At least on my roku tv there are no buttons which means you’re pretty screwed if you lose your remote. Fast start was one of the best improvements made to the TV since I originally bought it 3 years ago.
Kenny aka TI, it just wasn’t a point brought up in the video. It is the whole point of why they added the feature. It’s do you want to be able to always use the app if it costs a little more on your electric bill or roll the dice that you’ll remember where the remote is every morning after turning off the tv.
Hey yall just got the roku ultra for the bedroom , subscribed to RU-vid TV and Philo! Couldnt be happier with the switch from cable as I get all the channels I usually watch anyways. Now i need one for the living room which will run off wifi which box should i get ?? Another ultra or something else ? Not interested in a stick because of the well known over heating issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I watched a free 5 day trial of True Royalty.....it told me my trial date was over and wanted me to sign up but did not really care for it as lots of it is older content and i checked my bank statement and they charged me $5.99! It was easy to fix when i called them and told them what had happened. Thet sent me email confirmation giving my money back.
SUGGESTION: (Voice searching for content in specific apps verses a broad based search in all apps) As it is now, doing a voice search on the Roku brings up content from all the apps on the Roku. That's nice but I don't always want that. Sometimes I just want voice search for content from the specific app that I am using (say RU-vid). Getting search content from all the other apps is annoying when I just want voice search results from RU-vid only. I might also add that being able to do a voice search in RU-vid would be far easier than having to type the search topic in the RU-vid search field. How should this feature work?: It should work like this. If I am in a specific app (say RU-vid), limit the search for content within the RU-vid app. If I want to a voice search for content across all apps, then make it so that I have to the Roku home screen to get that content across all apps. Nvidia does this sort of thing and it is quite easy and nice. Roku should do this too.
We got a Roku TV 2 weeks ago. We added our Blue Ray player during set up, but when we try to play it, it says "No Signal (Is It Turned On)" Does this mean our Blue Ray Player is not compatible?
I appreciate the info and staying away from technical things or explaining to them so they are understandable I have TCL 50" 525 Series I never dreamed I could have a 50" that looked so good also it is definitely a Roku TV which I never tried before, I didn't watch much TV from 80s to 2010 when I was well enough to do other things now I can get most of those shows free Excellent Job showing Roku and free channels Thank You rsdno
Great, but how do I remove ads? I wish the TV reviewers would have mentioned all the ads *before* I bought the TV off of their recommendations. Yesterday and ad poped up on one of my inputs while I was playing a game. That's *unacceptable*!!
Okay so I found a website that provides info on what is happening www.cordcutters.com/roku-privacy-policy-and-ad-tracking-what-you-need-know It's a tracking feature and it looks like an ad setting that you can opt into if you want, and I think during my TV setup I made sure it was off, because I haven't gotten any ads during gameplay. Below are the steps for turning that off: Here's how to turn off the Smart TV Experience on Roku: 1 Go to the Settings section in the main menu. 2 Choose "Privacy." 3 Choose "Smart TV experience." 4 Uncheck "Use info from TV input."
ROKU TV's sold in the Canadian market are specifically manufactured for the Canadian market. My new 2021 ROKU TV has been software updated, but does not include the "Featured Free" tab on the Home page. I suspect ROKU TV's are manufactured for other countries with specific features also, so if your live outside of the U.S.A., you need to do your homework to see if ROKU meets your needs.
Very cool! I like being able to switch inputs by clicking on large icons on the screen. My vision stinks, and I have to get right up to the tv to switch to antenna from my remote. One question I have is whether you can use a vpn with the Roku tv directly, or do you have to place the vpn on a router? I've been using Roku streaming devices for years and you can't use a vpn directly on the device, but Roku tv is doing so many things differently, maybe they've fixed this.
I enjoyed the video. I learned a lot. For me, I also want to learn how to get better internet service. There's a monopoly of providers based on geography. I have 2 choices. But really only 1 because I don't want anything but internet services. So I get the slowest speed(20) for $50/mo. I don't know if you have any ideas.
Maybe switching to DSL could be less expensive. That's all I have and haven't had a problem. I expected problems because even Netflix buffered quite a bit with my laptop. Slow DSL doesn't get in the way of my Roku.
Debbie Vernon I just went through this with Comcast. I knew that ANYTHING they would get me would be better than what I had, so I refused to be upsold. In fact, I found a coupon that lowered my rates even more! They told a friend of mine that she HAD to have their high end streaming because she wanted to watch videos. Boy did they sell her. Her bill was more than 5 times mine! Also, if you possibly can, buy your own equipment, don’t rent. It pays for itself in less than six months!
Today I stopped by Best Buy to ask the same questions answered here. Their heart was in it but they haven't been trained in the product. By the time I left we all had a far better understanding of the features. Given the rapid change to chord cutting this is the type of technology we need. I wonder when Samsung will do the same thing. They will no longer be competitive if they don't do some thing quickly.
Got a 55” TCL Roku...anybody heard of sound quality issues? It sometimes almost sounds like scratching or computer “thinking” type sounds, doesn’t do it all the time just curious if anyone knew, didn’t find much googling...awesome video!!
hello Luke! For one of your future tech lab videos, I’d like to request that you please do a demonstration on the operation of the are you a guide on Roku players/TVs. There are not very many professionally done videos on this topic, and some of the existing videos are using derogatory and insulting terms describe the assistive technology that people with visual permanence like myself and many other RU-vid subscribers rely on in order to use today’s smart technology. I watch a Dora listen to your videos all the time, and think that your program is an excellent platform for such a demonstration. Thank you.
I have a TCL Roku ready smart TV. For set up I don’t have a cable box I run internet here by AT&T Broadband. I haven’t open the box but everything I’m reading or watching this smart TV needs a cable box?
I purchased a 4K TCL 65S for TV with Roku in it, I also purchased a Roku smart sound bar with voice remote, do I plug the Syd card into the USB and the TV and the sound bar. By purchasing both,Will this allow me to do more? I am new to Roku User, I cut the cord,I need to register and I need to register TV and Roku bar.Any benefits from buying both?
If you have spectrum cable and internet, you dont need to get a second box for your other tv, the roku will show all the channels from the cable. You can do this up to 5 tv with a roku attached to each one. Cool
I don't know how to hook up my VCR to my TCL Roku TV because I don't see the colorful holes, or input, in the back or on the side of the TV to plug it in. I am so fustrated, so if you mentioned anything about my issue in this video, I must have missed it, yet I did learn other things about my TV, thanks.
I little late in answering, but for anyone wanting to hook up a vcr, make sure the TCL model supports RCA connectors, which are the colored (red, yellow, white)inputs this poster is talking about.some lower priced models don’t have these inputs.need to look at the specs and make sure these connectors are there.
May i ask you a question....can i get Adult xxxmovies wirhout buying a Firestick....im not buying paying for anything subscriptions do you have to pay to watch diffetent movies
I had some trouble installing, so I contacted the support center and they insisted of paying them $125 lifetime service contract. I said I had a Roku before and never had to buy a contract. He said now they do and it is alot different on Roku now. I paid since the long distance call center in India or Pakistan. "Bob" was very nice so I thought why not; but, I still feel I was taken advantage of because my old remote would pair and I needed a new remote and the Roku.
It sucks that on live TV antenna channel guide you can't get to automatically switch to or program channels you highlight with the white box ahead of what you are already watching
I saw the cable box listed on one of the (source) tabs similar to the antennae tab. Does this work in the same way as the antennae tab? Can you use the cable remote with the cable tab? How does it work?
I have tcl Roku tv in my camper I hook a tailgate dish to it what if people don't have internet wile they are camping how can they check for updates for tcl Roku tv
michelle welsh this tv doesn’t have an antenna! Has an internal tuner so you don’t need a converter box but you’ll still need an antenna to search for channels
Hey do I have to get a newer ROKU to get the antenna tv icon? Or will it show up when I install the antenna? I don’t see that as a selection... but I haven’t gotten it yet.
I just acquire a 32 inch TCL roku TV. I would like to connect it to my receiver. Receiver does have an optical plug but no HDMI access. What are my options.
I have the antenna tv thing going and I get 54 local channels. When I press the left arrow to get the TV guide it shows the channels but shows no information available. How can I correct that?
Okay so you need to be watching one of those channels. Right now I am watching Saved By The Bell on a local TV station. When I press LEFT, I get the TV guide grid, showing the channels to the left, and the name of each show. If ALL of the stations are saying No Information Available, then I'm not sure about that. I have seen channels say that before, and I just scrolled through my TV guide and none of them say No Information Available, so my guess is maybe that information comes from each station? Like a server or something? Maybe whatever sends that information to the guide, isn't working? I have seen on my new Roku TV, No Information Available, but that was the first or second day I had it. You could try leaving the guide up, or even scrolling through the guide to see if, No Information Available, changes. I have seen that happen before too.
Same problem, bought a headphone set from Best Buy that plugs into the set. Let’s you adjust the sound on the set and independently adjust the volume of the headset. Pretty cool. Good for hard of hearing people to adjust to their preference without blasting others out.
I have a question about antenna TV. In the guide there is a favorites section. There are three channels that were automatically in it, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to put more of my favorites into the favorites section. Is there a way to do this? Because if there is it has eluded me. not sure why those three channels were there to begin with although they are channels I watch all the time. Thank you
