For us, the major cons of the Ioniq are scarcity, high used prices, slow charging speed, rain ingress around the hatchback when you open it, and that awful rear blind spot. Thanks Nicolas.

Stunning car. Had mine for 2 years and even in winter can achieve 4.5 miles per KWh doing 70 on a motorway with 5 people. In town in the summer it'll hit around 6 miles easy. So underrated.

I mentioned this somewhere else recently. I have a friend who is ex-Lotus and now a senior design engineer at Tesla who, when he was over for Christmas/New Year, told me that of all their competitors he was 'most impressed' with the Hyundai Ioniq'.

Interesting. And a whole fleet of new Ioniq cars are coming, starting with the amazing new Ioniq 5. Tesla has a lot of advantages in the market, but other manufactures are quickly closing in.

It has received so many poor reviews alright from the likes of Tesla Bjron who said youd be better of buying the older 28kwh model. I know on longer Trips the 28kw has the advantage of up to 70kw charging speeds, while seen this model charges at a max of 50kw . Saying all of this im interested in hearing from someone who owns the new Model and whether the Fast Charging has any affect on your Daily use. Personally myself Ive a home Charger driving my bmwi3 94ah rex and rarely fast charge. Obviously if you do a lot of longer Trips it maybe an issue. The other think id say is there arent that many Fast Chargers over 50kW. I went for the i3 rex myself due to issues with lack of Chargers in some areas.
@amiddled
@amiddled 4 года назад
Stephen Fahy poster above states they’ve had it for 2 years so they’ve got the old one with 28kwh pack. If you watch TeslaBjorns videos you’d get the impression charging speed is the only thing that matters, but reality is most people are driving less than 100 miles a day, so if you are charging from home, most of the time it isn’t an issue. Regardless, in the UK most chargers are 50kw or less, and on those the charging speed is pretty much the same as the old one.
@itsfahys
@itsfahys 4 года назад
@@amiddled He does a lot of those 1,000km challenges, which most people would Never undertake. I live in Dublin and the longest Trip in Ireland is about 380km and even then you need to stop to use the Toilet have Lunch, so the Fast Charging isnt that relevant to most people.

I’ve had a Hybrid version and that was a pleasurable, easy drive also. Many features come as standard in the Hyundai Ioniq and totally agree that you quickly get used to the rear visibility issue and didn’t cause any safety issues. At first I was concerned about no rear wiper but found that it wasn’t a problem at all given the design of the car. Time for a new car and the all electric is top of my list at the moment - especially as it looks like congestion charging zone will be extended out to my area

The split rear screen is great. It doesn't make a difference to my rear vision apart from stopping vehicles behind from dazzling me. The bar sits right across their headlights if I'm being tailgated or dazzled. I have achieved 205 miles on a charge in warm weather at 60mph and city driving. I had 7miles per kw last week on two days. 30 miles each day and regularly get 6 miles per kw . my total average since February is 5.2 miles per kw in 5000 miles i normally drive at 70 mph on a motorway. I'd change the lane assist though. Very annoying and dangerous when it grabs your wheel while avoiding obstacles in the road. I occasionally forget to switch it off. I should be able to permanently turn it off. Bad feature on a great car.

Regarding the battery size and charging speed decrease, I think it could've been said how the cell chemistry hasn't changed from the older 27kWh Ioniq, only that Hyundai just crammed more batteries into the battery pack, and had to use the same cooling capacity as the older model. Yes, the 38kWh (a perfectly adequate size) is still liquid cooled, but less capable to keep heat under control above 45kW charging.

Maybe the efficiency comes from not having to lug a 50 or 60 kWh battery around. Just about to get a 28kWh Iconic, having worked out will only need to public charge a handful of times a year.
@dcvariousvids8082
@dcvariousvids8082 4 года назад
Total battery pack size appears to be 40.4kWh, with as you say, a useable 38.3kWh. Though I’ve driven vans and lorries, which of course don’t have good rearward views. When I’m in a car, I like to at least have a chance, to clearly see out of all the windows. So 100% agree with the need for a rear wiper. I suppose like Jag, the thinking was that a fast airflow over the car would clear rain. However, this is flawed or lazy thinking in many ways. What if the car/s are not moving at speed, so rain droplets build? Snow or slush don’t magically disappear with airflow. Then there’s the little matter of airborne particles. If it’s tamping with rain and you’re travelling at speed, there may be enough flow to clear the rear screen of clean water. But what if it’s dry? There’ll still be those pesky particles, building dusty layers. There’s still the need to see out of the rear window and no easy way to clear the view. Nope. If the vehicle has a rear screen, it needs a rear wiper. I drive one of three cars. Two have rear wipers, one does not. The one that doesn’t, a saloon, is a right pain on long journeys. Having to stop every chance I get, just to wash off the rear screen. A car without a rear wiper, might as well be a van with 2-5 seats.

@NicolasRaimo 4 года назад
are you sure? i tried to check 3 sources i normally use and NON had the correct size where did you get this info DC? The rear wipper wasn't the main issue it was the fact you couldn't see a THING looking out he back. Would you consider buying this car based on all its positives thou?

the ioniq is number 1 on efficiency but tesla cars are close BUT i would bring up price of car. if the back window is bad who cares any thing behind you is going to stay behind you you should look at this car in price 2nd hand as most people cant afford new cars then this goes against 24 and 30 leafs or small battery zoe or the messed up MG.

Boy Racers need good Visibility to see if the Cops are chasing them. People forget that a Car is a means of Transport, and if it gets you there in Comfort and Safely then its a good car. All the talk about Cornering and responsive steering , super fast acceleration is talking to a different audience.

@df3555 3 года назад
Why do you have the rear headrest raised when there's no passengers there 6:54 making the visibility worse? Even your drivers seat headrest is way too high for your stature for proper whiplash protection in an accident. I don't under stand why people do this.

Reasonable video Nick, however you do have a habit of comparing much larger cars to the Zoe, so of course the Ioniq isn’t going to be as good on B roads. The rear visibility is not an issue at all, you get used to the split screen and it makes no difference, especially given all the blind spot warnings and sensors. I would say using a really good glass coating such as rain x really helps though. This cars efficiency is amazing and I believe you can get over 200 in summer but haven’t seen any videos yet probably due to lockdown. The wheels though are shockingly ugly your right 😳😅 imagine if this car had a better battery thermal management it would be incredible....ps this new one has auto dipping headlights too...bonus 👍🏼 great all round review

I compare the handing to a car people know, Hyundai no matter the size drive the same, remember at work I drive all size cars, I’ve never been a fan of handling of Hyundai it’s the way they have the steering set which they could make tighter if they wanted. I spoke to a few ioniq owners who all agreed the rear blind spot is a issue. You also shouldn’t have to purchase additional products to make a car work. I do however overall like the car and would consider owning one if I was in the market for that size car with that range.
@lotsofbumper76
@lotsofbumper76 4 года назад
Nicolas Raimo I speak to many Ioniq owners too who don’t have an issues so just putting it out there. My point around the handling is it’s a big car so it’s not going to be like the Zoe or smaller cars which are always better on B roads. This is definitely no sporty handler, perhaps I’m used to it now so don’t notice and as you say your driving lots of different cars 😇
