I really appreciate these videos! I started a small cattle ranch last year and studied your videos on habitat improvement and how to attract bucks to your land. I ended up tagging out with a couple good bucks. My target buck, a 4 1/2yr old, was shot just behind my land during the rut. It was such an amazing year. Thanks again!
I have watched for years now and because of you're videos I was able to get my dad on a nice 8 point his dream buck so I thank you and you're the most indepth people I have seen you break it down and make is simple thank you buddy
I’m 38 years old and this is my first year hunting alone on 350 acres of Brazos River bottom in Texas. I have built everything off of your videos and I’ve learned so much. There’s still so much I don’t know. I’ve had the same deer since I started feeding and trying to manage the herd. If I had the money I’d get you down here to show me the best set up spots. Nobody hunts this side of the river for at least 5 miles in each direction
Great tips on the pre-rut.I had the best day bowhunting in 40 + years in Pa. As you stated about having it cold...it was in the 30s in the morning. I saw a total of 25 deer .11 of those were bucks. Although I passed on 2 nice bucks. I am looking forward to the pre rut,rut.. I look forward to all your videos and knowledge. It has helped me be a better hunter.
Great video Jeff my favorite time of the year also let a nice 3yr old go last night! Two weeks of hunting starts this evening! Thanks for all of the info much appreciated. Good luck to you guys this year. We have been talking the same dates for years on our webshow, and podcast. Thanks again for being so generous with your knowledge, and time.
Good morning Jeff thanks again for your dedication to educate. N-East TN Bucks are still running together saw 4 Eight pointers and 2 cow-horn spikes together 2 day's ago in the evening.
What about calls? Especially for this time of year? Rattle? Grunt? When to? Would love to see this in a vid…when you get an extra minute of course! Love the vids…I’m a 43 yr old man and have hunted most of my life…but have learned so much from you and your RU-vid videos. Thank you sir! And the best of luck this deer season! Stay safe!
Grunted in a nice 8 tonight , he chased some does in the distance and let out a roar followed by a nice grunt. First time experiencing/ hearing a roar. He was on his feet 30 mins before sunset here in NJ. Good luck it’s go time ..
I harvested a beautiful mature buck Oct. 21, 2022. The biggest reason I was able to put myself in the correct position to harvest this great buck is because of you Jeff. I have learned so much about deer and deer behavior. You videos are informative, you are unselfish to share all of your knowledge and you love what you do. The information that you share in this video almost exactly summarizes my hunt. The first frost of the year after a cold front came through, sitting near bedding on a fresh scrape. I was able to arrow him at 9:45AM on NYS PUBLIC land. His live weight was 220 pounds, 5.5 years old, and the rough measurement was 151 5/8. He eclipsed my previous big buck by 2 years and over 40 points. Thank you for helping me understand how to put myself in the right place a the right time. Good luck to you and everyone else this fall as you enjoy the woods as I do! Curt I would love to send you some pictures.
Really appreciate your content Jeff! Having property 25 miles south of yours in Fillmore county really localizes your channel for me with what's happening. Big bucks on camera mostly at night. A marathon is upon us. Keep bringing us the great videos
Appreciate the videos as always, you have helped me a lot to transition hunting in Kentucky, after hunting the big woods of upstate NY (Adirondacks) and North Central PA (Bradford to Marienville).
Love these, great tips in every video. Hello to Dylan as well from beautiful NJ, cant wait to implement your plan over the next year or two. Pre rut is picking up here.
perfect timing for this video. planning on getting out on a very small piece of public in Central Wisconsin in a couple days when the cold front comes through. Haven't been to this spot since last opening day of gun but have seen some nice bucks on camera in there in previous years.
Been watching and following your tactics for few years now with great success. I’d like to see video or talk on podcast about what happens when weather just doesn’t co operate ? I’ll be hunting regardless but the 10 day forecast here in northeast Ohio doesn’t look good for heavy daytime buck activity. My area usually see lockdown by nov 6th. Just started seeing real good activity right at end of this last cold snap. Our last “warmer” rut was horrible for daytime activity. Hoping the forecast changes drastically by next week.
Love your vids Jeff. Keep up the great work! I like throwing in NEw Brunswick timing if it helps. We usually don’t see many scrapes in southern NB until Halloween. That is about 10 days before breeding peaks according to conception data here
The pre-rut is just starting up in North-Central Arkansas. I plan to get in the stand tomorrow morning. Hey, that is one gigantic, oak tree you're going to be hunting from! Hope you guys get a big one!
I am on vacation next week. My favorite week to hunt by far. Unfortunately This week had great cold front but surprisingly my cameras were pretty dead.
I'm super bummed. Cold front is coming through here Sunday night and I can't take Monday off. Last year on the 23rd, day after a cold front the bucks went nuts with scrapes and rubs here in SE NE. I'm hoping to catch one Tuesday morning
We all have a warming trend starting tomorrow and lasting nearly a week. BY the time it ends it will be the 27th. SO do stay out 100% or try to hunt in the AM each day? Tuesday the 25th is the cool down but RAIN.
This should be required viewing for hunters safety courses. You could fill a book with what folks don't understand about rut behavior yet endlessly spew (moon phase, bucks checking scrapes is peak rutting...). Come to think of it I think you've already filled multiple books with that info. 😆
There is no one size fits all approach to woodsmanship and I like it that way. Those that put the time in get rewarded while one who just go sit and think they’ll get a buck every time May end up getting lucky but most times not. I’m just happy people get some education on proper gun and archery use before hitting the woods.
Jeff, Northern Panhandle of WV within 5 mins driving time to PA and OH. For the past week the young bucks are checking and at time working scrapes. This morning 3rd day of a cold front. Those bucks are Chasing does around food/bed areas until 10am. Gotta love cell cams. Rut definitely started earlier than Nov. 1st last year. Looks like it's gonna be close to same time this season or even sooner
Can't wait for rifle season here in the U.P. me and my brother found a spot on public land that's worked well for us the last 3 years. 3 bucks, 3 years in a row shot from the same spot. 2 of em chasing does. 6 point, 8 point and a monster 10 point. However I think I'll let him hunt it this year since I got the last 2 there lol.
Another great video Jeff been a long time viewer can only say thank u hunting in Michigan rifle was always told to me ruts on but would even see anything mud November as u know gave that up and been hunting last two weeks in October hard and been out this world activity 🤘🤘 thank u
Plan to hunt next week hopefully it will all work out. And look into hunt wise and they said it will available in Canada next year looking forward to see you and Dylan podcast great work Jeff learning a lot
we're seeing pre rut activity already, rubs, and some little bucks chasing. haven't seen the big boys in move yet, the cold snap down here really kicked up for the young fellas. NorthEastern NC also think the little fellas are going now, but next week will be mid - high 70s and by Nov 1st another cold snap will kick in and think that will be the key for those big boys
Excellent information. I rarely see the same type of rut and most of the times all the action happens at night. In NW Illinois it’s just too warm even into November. Right now I’m seeing bucks pound the acorns.
Morning Jeff! Our pre rut down in Va is that first week of November! Can’t wait! Do you ever occasionally spook deer going to these bedding area stands?
@@ericstevens8744 just depends on the year generally the muzzleloader season falls first Saturday in November 2 weeks Muzzleloader and then rifle Varys a few days depending on year
Great video Straight info to the point Probably one of your more informative videos! Can you please make another 2nd rut video as we get closer? Looking for hard hunter public land tips , I’m in western NY and really never had any success after 11/15
N.central Arkansas.Yesterday at dusk, I seen a group of does in an open field that connects to the beginning of my hunting area. Then a buck came behind the sniffing the ground. This morning at day break, I I let out a short buck grunt,a buck came in to my left, sniffing but not scraping. The winds were almost Zero and not from me to him but he jolted out without blowing.Between 8:30 & 9 am a buck came in to my right. He was a 10 point, mature buck .I couldn't shoot sitting because he got passed me.I waited t'ill he got between two Oak trees in line between me and the buck.Somehow he either got a scent of me or sensed me get up.He was only 15 yards away.He blew once, darted 15 yards then began coming back toward me,but then he went to the right. I have been setting out corn and water in this area, once a week for a month.
Jeff my water hole is not getting hit like I thought it would. I’m in south east Michigan. I have seen a lot of bucks on their feet when driving around glassing around a few areas.
I work evening so next week I start hunting every other morning, hunted yesterday morning watched a 3 year old 8 work scales at day light only buck I saw, checked cameras on the way out. Scrapes every were. South western WV
I've always been told NOT to hunt mornings, I've killed all but one of my bucks in the morning, there's less pressure. I understand the reasoning, but still do better in the AM, thanks Jeff!
I agree sightings and deer numbers are always much higher in the morning. Hunting pressure is high on surrounding properties they do t like to move from the day light haunts until well after dark. But love when all the guys roll in early morning with the atvs and trucks pushing them back on to me.
Great stuff Jeff! What's the closest you'd hang licking branch/vine from eachother? I have a heavily used trail, wondering if 25 yards, or 75 yards is too close?
So.............Hey Jeff, once hunting is done and it's time to start thinking about next season set ups. Could u do a video about the likelyhood of a big buck coming in from straight up wind which is how I typically set up as to not have hardly any deer wind me but sometimes I feel like I'm asking a lot of the big ones. I read an article years back of a guy from Ohio who had like three 200" bucks and I think the title was "almost the wrong wind" Thanks!!!
Great info Jeff! Got a unique situation this year as the property I help with is off limits til 11/6 but I picked up a 30 that connects to thousands of public acres in Clark Co. I am rehabbing a cabin so no chance to do habitat improvement and minimal scouting. I'm going up this weekend through the 31st and will bounce around between public and my property. When I was scouting I bumped a nice 8 and some does, found a wet scrape under a licking branch, and some heavy trails. There are oaks scattered throughout dropping acorns. I really have no cams or good idea where the best spots are including bedding so I'm essentially going in blind. With it being pre-rut and close to all this public I'm hoping some light rattling and grunting can bring one in since I don't really know where they are yet. Thoughts about blind rattling and grunting to make them come my way? If not suggested than my only other option is to sit outside a trail heading toward acorns.
I’d like to see a video or hear from you about what you think happens during prerut and or rut when u get a couple cold mornings then next few days the temp is considerable higher like in the 60’s in Northeast. Like a 20 degree increasing in temp . What do the bucks tend to do in those higher temp scenarios ?
I always get bucks that show up in-between oct 15-25 I get a week with them then they're gone I have a lot of pressure here in Michigan this is the first year with a water hole and Ive stayed out of there all year with the luck of a cell cam I hope it makes a difference this year surrounded by ag fields and water don't help lol
I'm new to hunting public land in VA. I've always had the privilege to hunt private property ( good private at that) but now I'm mostly gonna be hunting public. Do you have any videos on hunting/ figuring out public land and maybe some vids on how to hunt the rut on public grounds?
Click on his channel, go to his "playlists" tab at the top of the page, there's a Playlist called "deer hunting public land," lots of great videos on there. Also, most of his strategy videos he'll give a tip, then mention how to use that tip on public.
I've been hunting a few years and watch your videos as much as I can. My main question is how to identify bedding areas. I know does bed close to food and bucks bed further. But I'm not sure I could identify a bedding area if I came across one. This topic is hard to find info on.
Jeff, or anyone can chime in on this.. I was under the impression of hunting cold fronts meant you hunt during the coldest part of the weather drop. Because deer are moving to stay warm and want to eat. New to huntwise app this is shows not true. You actually want to hunt after the cold moves through and starts to warm up 24 hours after. Do I have this right??
My bucks are coming in pairs in the last 5 days. Theres one older doe that seems to be around prior to the bucks every night. Live in the EUP of Michigan. I think its about to pick up. I've sat this stand five or six times since the 1st of Oct and seeing a lot of does, fawns and young bucks. I hunt public land so its pretty tough to manage other than reducing my sits or 1-2 days a week. Plus I work until 5pm and cant get to the stand until 5:45. I have deer on cam every 1-2hrs but they've began actually bedding in my spot.....which is kind of a nuisance. Im off this weekend plan to hunt 2 different stands hard. We got 2 inches of snow 2 days ago and the weekend is now showing 60 degrees which is also a bummer.
Hey Jeff, thanks for another great video. I was hoping sometime you could maybe do a segment on deciphering information from trail cameras. For example, I am seeing plenty of does during the morning and afternoon, but I’m only seeing the bigger bucks in the middle of the night or very early in the morning long before shooting light. Any chance you could give me some insight as to how I might improve my area to get these bucks to start coming during daylight hours? I’ve only been in there one time this fall just to fill my feeder so I don’t feel like I’ve been spooking them. I have been doing most everything that you say to do and avoiding most things you say not to do. Any advice?
Great video Jeff. After season, I know you're busy now, would you take a look at my property and tell me what you think? I want to add food plots, bedding areas etc. to bring in and keep deer on the property. Also away from roads, poaching has been known to occur in the area. Let me know if that's something you'd be willing to do and what it would take to make happen. Goodluck this year.
all of this information like if you don’t have bucks on the cams (we have cows on property tell last week of October) then the bucks and deer go crazy and the rut times change from place to place as it hits us later here in Canada then what you have said
I love your information but you should remember these tips may be exact for your place but hunting ways change from every spot, and you said don’t trust the rut apps but you created HuntWise which I use all the time and love so now I’m confused
Simply put this is the time you can catch those bucks start to get a little more active and even respond to conservative calling before the orange army is among us. Love it!
It's on in howell county MO. The change over just the last week is intense. Edit. I travel many miles a day in the area its not just one property its many.
his classes are so much better than growing deer tv. i had acquired Dr Grant through his service for help. he wanted 7k$ just to have him come out.. i can get it all through these guys for a 20th of the price!!
Saw a very fresh scrape this morning.Because the buck was making it.3 year old 8.But it was just too dark. When he walked by my camera 10 minutes later. For sure a shooter😠
