5 Reasons NOT to move to Australia 

I just wanted to re-iterate that these reasons are purely based on my opinion and experiences in Australia thus far. It's not a reflection of what the country is like or of every immigrant's experience. It's also not saying that I find my overall experience here negative at all. There is no utopia in this world, every country has it's good and bad, and that's purely based on one's perspective. Love y'all 💕

I think you will find world wide Australia has the biggest houses on average having recently surpassed the USA. Living in around Richmond or inner suburban areas ,everything is downsized as they are the oldest areas of the city , roads and laneways surveyed and built in the 1850s

I'm an expat living in aus and agree with everything trying to kill us. No one outside Australia ever mentions sweeping magpies, stonefish, jellyfish, miggies/sand flies/all of January&February/bushfire season. But still the best country in the world! Glad to be here with my viscious animal friends.

When I came to Australia from Uk it cost $1 a min to talk to my family !! I love Australia and would never go back except to visit family but the distance is a killer … my kids never grew up with cousins and the hey hardly know my brothers and sisters … that is my regret !!

Very well done and all true really. Loved the part at the end about N.Z. So funny. On the Blue Mountains I had a 5 foot snake in my electricity box so yes, it does happen. Australia is one of the few countries that drives much BIGGER cars than they used to. 50 years ago a Mini or VW Beetle which were common were great in the streets, now your typical SUV or Pickup is not.

Interesting to hear a foreigners perspective. 100% agree with points 1& 2 - preaching to the choir about these problems. The kitchen size varies greatly between Melbourne suburbs to regional i think. I have family in the outer Melb suburbs that a 3mt island (with sink) and 5mt built in bench (with 90cm oven/cooktop) This is standard for that area & plenty of room for a coffee maker 😜 I think if people a purchasing a home for themselves then the kitchen size on average is bigger than that of a place intended to be rented out to other

You must be living in an older residence or apartment. Most of the newer houses being built do have larger kitchens.

We have many discount stores here. We have $2 shops and 'Best and less' or K-mart Chemist Wearhouse and Priceline etc. I have VERY rarely not been about to find a product here. Id be curious to know what you couldn't find here. Many of our inner city streets were built for horses and cart. Most of our hwy's are 3 lanes or more. ❤

I'd say the things that Aisha has pointed out is more related to the differences between living in the inner suburbs of a major city and living in a rural town or outside the metropolitan. I'm in country Queensland and my town has huge, wide roads, big blocks of land and big a kitchens if you want one.

I live in a workers cottage in Brisbane and most houses I’ve rented have been 100yo+ cottages or Queenslanders. Unless they have been renovated to within an inch of their lives, they have no inbuilt storage, small kitchens and dinky bathrooms. Likewise, the colonial era parts of cities are tightly packed because it probably seemed like a good idea at the time and that’s the way they did things back them. But yes, insane to allow parking either side of absurdly narrow streets. There’s no land animal that can chase you down and eat you here and most of the poisonous/venomous creatures you’ll rarely come across and when you do, are more likely to scurry/slither away. Most spider don’t bother me, but I’m a horticulturalist. The one exception is golden orbs - urgh! My reaction to those is like coming across Sigorney Weaver’s Xenomorph. As regards to the variety/range of products available it’s a two edged sword - sometimes annoying, and can lead to excessive pricing due to lack of competing products, but occasionally can be good to have freedom from choice. And the cost of importing stuff has gone through the roof since the beginning of the pandemic. ❤️

I think in order to be happy where you/we are, needs acceptance, adjustment, flexibility etc. just be positive & grateful with the present. No thinking too much, just say thank you for your blessings may it be frustrating or not.

Being far away from the insanity is great.

Richmond, remember that part of Melbourne was built in 1800’s so only had to deal with horses not larger trucks.

Aisha, here's something to keep you from sleeping.. I lived in far North Queensland for a few years and worked at a Woolies. A customer was regaling me with tales of wildlife dangers; her friend visiting from Victoria was bitten by a taipan in bed during a Winter visit. She slid beneath the sheets in the guest bed and it bit her. It was snoozing under the doona...

You obviously haven’t gotten out much, go out further from the inner suburbs and you will find wider streets and much bigger houses. For your shopping I suggest you google and you’ll find plenty of choices. I’m pretty sure living in inner Melbourne your only experience with wildlife would be a huntsman spider( which is big but harmless), having lived in Aus my whole life I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen a snake and that includes 5 years on 4 acres in the bush. Yes we have some dangerous critters but you respect them and leave them alone.

In the cbd and inner city houses are definitely more “euro-sized” but out in the suburbs houses and land plots do get a lot larger

Talking about narrow roads over here. I was on a bus once and it like it went down severel narrow roads and the bus took up the entrie road that twice when a car was coming the other direction, it had to wait for the bus to turn off the road before it could dribe on the road itself

From what I've seen, as well as from talking to some Aussies I've met here, I get the sense that there's quite a few similarities and parallels between our two countries. Hi Aisha we in Australia are used to the distances we travel its not a real concern for us, and the places you are living in the inner suburbs of Melbourne have really not changed for over one hundred years they have just been renovated over and over again for the yuppy generation. All of those suburbs in close to the city were classed as working mans slums when i was a small child, if you want to see the bigger houses that most people live in now make your way out into the newer suburbs bigger houses and major shopping malls with a lot more than the inner suburbs. As for expense you forgot to mention we have one of the highest pay rates in the world starting at around 24 dollars an hour for any one over 18 and we don't charge for tips. And a free health care system where it costs you nothing t go to the doctors or Hospitals from operations to having a baby all free. As for the wild life that's what makes Australia one of the best places in the world to visit 99% of the time if you don't go looking for it , it won't come looking for you not having a go at you or anything that's just the way i see it thanks from an old aussie.

I live in Vancouver and I escape the pressure of the city to nature and forest a few times a week. I'm starting to get the impression that if we move there I won't have that option. That you have to live in busy urban centres and if you're going out into forested nature you're taking a risk, especially with my young kids that are used to laying in the thick bed moss here under a pine. If we are searching for nature to calm our nervous system, are sand beaches and tours in wilderness areas the only options there? Thank you for your help.

I think Canada has been blessed by the fact that the USA is right next door and who treat it like another state and I strongly believe that their size in population and economic superpower has helped Canada get all the variety in goods easily and cheaply. As far as Australia's economic performance over 2019, 2020, and 2021 has been outstanding and has had very little impact due to Covid 19 and has been recognized by the world monetary organization as being one of the best in the western world.

I find it funny that people complain about "how far" the country is . . as if the map doesn't show it lol I agree with small houses. Even I don't understand why houses got to be so small and box shaped. That's my complain too but I don't agree with struggling to find products. There's wide range of products but it's costly. The cost of everything is getting too much here in Australia but still it's better than most places because I'm from New Zealand and in New Zealand you can't find things even when you have money. You can't find a job, you can't find a good dress, there's not much variety. New Zealand is more expensive too! Australian government has too many unnecessary rules and regulations. You get fine for everything. I only stay here because how friendly everyone is. People are warm and welcoming, in New Zealand and any other places people are judgemental. I live in Melbourne but even in Sydney people are competitive and all about money and status! Only if the new government can cut down on some unnecessary rules and be a bit more considerate when it comes to helping people Australia would be perfect 🤍

I have seen my fair share of small houses in the States, kitchens with no bench tops, pokey little houses and narrow roads, so that is not a Melbourne only phenomenon. You obviously haven't travelled around the suburbs to see what life is like, we having shopping malls, factory outlets, that give you everything from the cheapest to the most expensive in every department. Most of the stuff you find in supermarkets is produced here, so don't know where that claim came from that it is all mostly imported. As for life here, it is leaps and bounds better to anything in the States or Canada, according to many that produce videos like yours. People are friendlier here too. And your hair products, shop around, there is a sizeable African population here that no doubt has access to those products you crave.

Are u kidding me? The number one reason not to move to Australia is the exuberant price of real estate . Home ownership is out of reach of the ordinary folk and there's no respite in the rental market neither its very competitive like going for a job interview . Australia is also prone to natural disasters and unpredictable weather patterns that has repercussions for the availability of fresh produce which drive the costs way high. @ the moment the floods in Queensland have created a shortage of lettuce and to buy one lettuce costs $ 10. Even fast food joints like McDonalds have rationed lettuce and substituted it with cabbage believe it or not. Meat prices have also risen to the point of being on par with seafood. That's saying something when u consider that some cattle stations in Australia are bigger than the state of Texas!

Basically it’s just what you are after in life. It’s good is also it’s bad. Australia is more isolated but also less competitive with people and products. Australia has beautiful scene but also lacking the diversity of weather and scene compared to Canada. Australian don’t like things to change so it’s also good if you are more of a laid back chill type of person. Tax is super high but maybe you get some sort of good Medicare. Where to live is very personal at the end because it’s a choice affected by your personal career, relationship status, values, life priorities, taste. For me, australia is good for traveling and holiday but maybe not so much for my career growth, traveling needs, diversity of needs and financial growth.

Lots of the roads were built before street parking was as big as it is now so it wasnt a problem 100 years ago :'( but now the narrow roads are so annoying

Yep Amazon in Australia is absolute crap!!! Have you been to kmart for cheaper homewear and clothing? Also the cities are alot different to the suburbs, the houses and kitchens haha and roads are "normal" in the suburbs, the city housing and streets are wild

You have obviously not travelled much outside your neighbourhood - roads, housing, product prices/variety etc…its nowhere near what you get in the US but from my experience comparable to Canada in many ways. Also you can’t compare Melbourne (in particular older parts) with the much newer cities in Western Canada

The distance and time zone issues are interesting. Australians are enthusiastic global travellers and I guess we have grown up with the so-called "tyranny of distance". We don't think its a big deal to fly 8-10 hours to get to an Asian destination; or 15-17 hours to get to north America; or 20-23 hours to get to Europe or the UK. I have visited 69 countries to date ... and counting. Putting covid restrictions aside, between 7 and 9 million Australians travel abroad every year; that's 27-34% of our population! A "Decent economy" you said. That's an understatement! The last release of Australia's National Accounts reported the 110th consecutive quarter of economic growth since Australia's last recession. This represents the longest period of economic growth (27 years) without a recession for ANY developed country in the world since the system of National Accounts was introduced internationally following World War 2. More broadly, and I do not mean to cause offence or be disrespectful, but most of your negatives seem to be focussed on material things. The quality of life we have in tis country means more than the availability of material objects. There's more to life than that. My parents were migrants to this country. They had the choice of UK, USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia. I will be eternally grateful to those two dear souls that they chose this Great Southern Land.

The roads are too narrow so annoying considering the size of this country. What is it with the kitchen sizes like I can't stand it. My father inlaw had to put kitchen bench top and cupboards in because my new house had none to speak of. I've got a galley kitchen 😒 I don't live on a boat🤔 I look back and can't imagine how i managed ro raise my 8 kids in this house but surprisingly like anyone - you make do. Living on acreage helped without doubt. We grew most veggies and fruit trees. We had livestock so meat and fresh eggs wasn't a problem. Where I live, if you don't have a car - ya stuffed😏😒

Interesting Far away? Other countries are far away, we aren't. Time zones? We are not the only country with time zones. Pay $30 to have a $10 product shipped? Buy it here. We don't live in the stone age.

I know this is your experience, but can I point out that 50% of the world lives in the handful of Asian countries you mentioned Thus Australia is actually closer to the time zones, if not actually sharing the time zones, with most of the planet.
