EP. 3 5 Reasons Rage Against The Machine Bass Sounds Great - Tim Commerford - Bass Lesson
In this bass tutorial I pick apart the bass line of Rage Against The Machine and give you 5 reasons why Rage Against The Machine bass is great.
The bass player of Rage Against The Machine is Tim Commerford and he is one of my bass heroes. When I first got a bass I learned the first album (Rage Against The Machine) from start to finish so he basically taught me how to play bass and the first album was my first bass tutorial.

What makes Tim sound so great, easy the huge pocket the Brad gives him to play with.

Awesome video man. Would you ever consider doing a video about Pete McCullough from streetlight manifesto? I feel like he underrated in the bass world.

Love this video man! Always wish there was more talk than just nods on Tim. Especially on why’s which you break down. It’s so cliche to bring up flea but they both did so much it gave their guitarists room to do less and create the sounds of two iconic bands

Thanks Jacob! I agree, Tim is on par with Flea in terms of influential bass players.

One of these days I'm going to give bi-amping a go (when I have the money for two amps and a place where I can crank it without bothering any neighbors!) In fact this is a real problem for me. Like most people, I guess, I have to use headphones to practice. And when I do play with my group it's not even my own amp, so it's really difficult to find my sound.

I had that same problem for many years Brian. I used to hire a room and spend a few hours messing around with my amp and pedals. Great fun! Thanks for the term bi-amping, I wasn't aware of that.

@@HowToBass I think I first learned the term when looking into Billy Sheehan (from my understanding he's one of the first guys to really make this part of his sound). I've also been thinking about renting a practice room sometime. It would also give me the chance to try out some different types of amps that these rehearsal places have.

Actually, after playing a bit of Roundabout today I think I need to revise this answer. Of course Chris Squire with his Ricky and Rick-o-Sound outputs was probably one of the first to really do this (Sheehan actually has an output for each of his pups - is that how Ricky works too?). But apparently you can even go back to Entwistle for an example of a biamping bassist. No surprise there, the guy was ahead of the curve on nearly everything (#bassgod) I wonder if biamping is getting nudged out by modern electronics and effects. My Orange combo has a gain knob and a blend knob to mix the clean and dirty signals. I think the idea is to give you a biamped kind of sound. Whether that stacks up to actually using two separate amps or not I have no idea.

I have plans to do some John Entwistle videos at some point. The Real Me is a personal favourite. Check out the band Royal Blood for a modern day example of a bi-amping. That guy has a crazy sound.

@@HowToBass 👏👏👏 Sounds great! Entwistle is, for me, a guy that has had such a huge influence, but that no one can even comes close to imitating, they don't even try. He's in such a league of his own.
