Honestly, why even get a 4Runner if it isn't going to be 4x4? People are free to spend their money however they want. However, if you're willing to buy a 2WD version, it just seems like there are so many other crossovers or smaller SUVs that you could get for cheaper and that have better fuel economy.
Back in 2021, I bought a Brand New White SR5 Premium 2WD with Blackout Package and Sand/Beige Interior and 3rd Row Seating and Moonroof. It was on order and I had to wait almost 3 months but it was exactly what I wanted at the time. It looks great and I’m enjoying it but now I wish I would have gotten the 4WD instead of 2WD. My next 4Runner will be just that….a 4Runner!!!
Gosh 45,000 for a sr5, I paid 25,000 for my sr5 in 2017, I have a 2016, had 23,000 miles on it when I purchased it. I can't believe how expensive vehicles are now. But yes best vehicle ever, I have 105,000 miles on it, I only had to get a new battery.
exactly! It's wild how much a base model 4Runner has spiked up these days. 19' SR5 was around 30-33k in 2019. Same vehicle will be sold from a dealer around 40-43k.. yikes.
No. No. No. No. They can literally save up there money and build out a lower trim cheaper and better than buying a TRD Pro. The magic unstuck crawl control is awesome. But it is completely not worth spending 50k+ for when they can be properly geared or run 34s / 35s the right way for much much less.
My 2023 TRD-ORP is currently on the vessel headed to the states. At MSRP with all som3 nice perks I wanted like black out emblems, black tip, moonroof, cargo cover, weather mats, I don't want the predator steps and will take them off, also other small things.
@@steveo1240 i believe that. I test drove a challenger with the hood scoop package and despite how great it looked outside. Inside my ADHD could not stop noticing it. God bless those that can mentally manage the scoops
@@AndrewB23 leasing is almost always the lesser of options when purchasing a vehicle. Noting a higher resale value, ie lower depreciation is nothing more than a financial consideration. No different than buying a 4runner over an explorer. At the end of the loan you will have a more valuable asset in relation to what you paid for it over the life of the loan.
At minimum, you should get the 4x4 sr5. a 2WD 4runner in my opnion, is pointless and you might as well get a crossover suv that is going to be better all around.
Couldn’t agree more. I bought a 2022 SR5 and now I’m customizing it that way I want it. New Eibach shocks/struts, Sherpa roof rack and Baja Design lighting and I’ll still come in cheaper than a TRD Pro. I’m at about 6k with modifications and it is exactly how I want it to look with the modifications I want.
Sr5 premium is the only one you need I agree. The trd pro is way over priced and unless your Rick crawling you will never use the extra 4x4 goodies on the pro or the fancy shocks
I tried finding the SR5 Premium with the 3rd row and 4x4(“part-time”), and I thought I had found it since the dealers website said that it was, when we got there, there was no 4X4… However, the car was used with 200 miles on it and $8K under its sisters and brothers for the same 2022 year, that we could not pass up the deal. We got a “new” car. It was heartbreaking giving up the 4X4 but the car is still amazing and comfortable for the needs of my family. We have a Wrangler, so that one is our “toy”. 😅
@@wicked.peaches.1797I have the 40th anniversary and I’m in love with it and I barely ever put it in 4 wheel drive because it feels so much better in 2WD. The 2 wheel drive is perfectly capable in snow and Ice and pulls right through. 4 wheel drive feels sticky, less athletic, slower, uses more gas and isn’t really necessary- ever unless you’re really off-roading doing something that is probably stupid anyway
I’ve had a’21 SR5P, now a 22 TRD OFP. Nothing bad to say of the SR5. I really wanted the blind spot monitoring on the 22. My small dislike of the SR5 is the silver interior trim but that’s personal taste. Both are great. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Here in Canada it basically comes loaded dual air sunroof etc I think it's a great choice I bought my 2021 4runner trdoff road venture but still like the sr5 .
It's also cheaper to lift the 3" and has a full size roof rack rather than the half size mini rack. 3"lift with 1.75" wheel spacers and this thing looks awesome with some off road tires
@@stupidcar-noreally-8771 yeah I hear you. I have a 2018 4Runner off-road, I do minor trails here and there, but obviously with all the snow in Alberta Canada I like the piece of mind of having all the gadgets
like the trd off road ,has a mechanical shift transfer case handle, besides wrangler /new bronco has a solid rear axle ,base SR5 4x4 is a good choice over every thing else on the market, do like the short 109" wb great break over angle, as most double - crew cabs ,gladiator wheel base is way to long @ 127-145" wheel base just to long for the trails and most have 5' box, useless for a 6' person to sleep in the back
I have 2018 sr5, put a lift kit, TRD wheels, some beefy tires, and I love it. Very capable. Went off roading with my buddy that has stock TRD pro and my Sr5 handled the trails even better because of the few, not very expensive add ons. Also, I paid for mine $25k in 2021 with 38k miles :) Go get one before the are no more V6's !!!
This. The skid plates on the TRDs are trash and the fox shocks are an improvement but you could buy aftermarket coil overs for cheaper than MSRP of a pro
I bought the SR5 premium for urban purposes😂 Dont really trail enough for the trd pro that was more expensive to begin with. Will say its been the most reliable vehicle for the past 7 years now😎
You hit all the right points. TRD Pro’s make fun of SR5’s but it simple and has just as much as a TRD Pro. Just wish we had that rear “differential lock.”
@@WoWsoEPICyou won’t be seeing these much as the years go on… These old 4 Runners are going to be the Land Cruiser status and beloved in 10 years watch…
Agree. Personally I’m in between the off road or sr5 4x4. Almost similar price point. Love the mechanical 4x4 in the off road. Also looking for cement in the off road. But trying to save a little $. Probably will end up with the SR5 4x4
@@oaouda really boils down to price at this point. Since the 2024 is out the off road and SR5 4x4 are around the same price, sr5 is going to be a bit less. Also the rear locking diff isn’t worth the extra money unless you’re going to rock crawl or stuck on beach somehow.
You forgot to mention SR5 has 3rd row seating. I have 4 kids. :) Need that 3rd row! HAVE MORE BABIES!!! THEY WILL CREATE THE NEXT GENERATION! TEACH THEM TO REBEL AGAINST MODERNITY AND EMBRACE TRADITION!
Sure I'll give you my thoughts, I want that BLUE TOYOTA 4 RUNNER that is parked right in the middle,my #1 FAVORITE color and my #2 favorite color is ORANGE 🍊, it's made only on the TRD PRO.
TRD is a sticker-package for the American market, no center differential, no kdss... get a 4x4 sr5 change the tires and lift it an inch (if you want) and there to go...
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Americans (Toyota SUV'S fans) thought they had the best Toyota's SUV while this junk what you called 4runner wouldn't be good sealing overseas. Yes the GX is better than the 4runner by far as you mentioned it has kdss, centre-diff and all time all wheel drive. So what does the 4runner get for TRD? Sticker, upgraded shock absorber and tiers all these you can do it but you can't make a centre-diff or kdss system
@@mohammeds5458 lockers and crawl, and MTS. Why would you want KDSS when it’s only use is under 12mph. Don’t know what the logic is with having a center diff lock over a rear when they’re all equipped with ATRAC. That makes zero sense.
@@coltonwaggoner5397 Comparing between centre-diff to active control system is zero logic when you get stuck inside a hard environment like sand then you will know why you need centre-diff I own three cars, fj cruiser, 2020 land cruiser 70 manual transmissions and recently 2022 Nissan Patrol y61 safari manual transmissions and I tell you the worst is the Fj cruiser that has Atrac and crawl control.
Got used TRD Pro voodoo blue 40k mile for $50K, in state like Colorado and Maryland where 4runner is everywhere, this stays unique and awesome without any mod to it yet
I understand the difference in terms of the dial vs the stick, electronic vs mechanical, but could you explain the practical difference? How is it better? Truly curious.
@@Toby_Flenderson_1982 manuals are just alot simpler , you can force a manual to go into 4x. Electrical can have well electrical issues . Early third gen tacomas had a problem where it wouldn’t go into 4x unless it was on relatively flat ground . Some electrical T cases want you to drive a few feet before it engages .
Nobody offroads them anyway. The TRD Pro is honestly kind of dorky. It makes so little sense over that SR5. It’s like cool you spent a lot of money you didn’t have to spend lol. The TRD Pro itself looks great. But I always kinda shake my head at the dude driving it.
I'm so happy with my TRD pro! I bought mine in Atlanta Georgia. At Atlanta Toyota in Duluth, GA. It has all the bells and whistles, including heated seats 😁 and I still got a great deal. Plenty of 4-runners in ATL. Go see Abdullah, he was very nice to deal with. 😁
Hey am trying to buy a pro but am in north carolina and they are charging 60K for it, can u get me that abdallah's number and the name of the dealership please??
@@FootballisinmyDNA-jo8ushi, you take the basic model and add the different packages to the base price. You can do this online as if you were purchasing one on order, this will give you an idea of a true price and offer you can make them. Unfortunately Abdullah is not there anymore but you can ask for anyone over there, but also there's a few Toyota dealerships over in the area you can look and make an offer. Noooo don't pay 60k hell nooo
Love my 23 TRD off road premium!! I can definitely modified it way better than a Pro…. sR5 is not up there for me … yes there’s all the same but each package is unique in there own way
The original 4Runner 5th Gen SR5 Premium, which had actual leather and looked almost like a Limited minus the 20"s, was only $36k. That is until the Fukushima incident occurred. Then it jumped to $39k-$41k, then after the refresh, the prices kept going up.
I have had a 18 off road, 19 SR5, and now own the 19 pro. By far better than the last two, the options, the colors, and it inclusion of all the off road capabilities.
Toyota needs to go back to the V8 4 Runner. Gas mileage wise the V6 is about the same as the old V8. Also the V6 sounds like it will explode every time you have to accelerate hard.
I'd have to pay $5000 to ship an SR5 to a reputable shop to install a Fox suspension and it still wouldn't be as reliable as the factory install. Adding the skid plate, Pro grill, TRD wheels, decent tires, a decent roof rack and the premium electronic features would bring the price pretty close to what I paid for my TRD Pro.
Is there a trim that does offer extra bells and whistles I always thought the SR5 was like the red eye to the demon, similar capabilities with a little more luxury as opposed to the demon that is meant to be as bland as possible to obtain maximum performance
Another reason: if you plan on building it out you are going to wind up replacing all the extras that come with a TRD anyway. Start with the base 4wd SR5 and do your thing... Suspension lift, 33s, roof rack, 3rd row delete, rock sliders, bumpers, etc... you can spend the additional 10-15K on an SR5 and have an even more capable off roader. The only thing missing will be the diff locker, which is rarely needed and can also be added on but for a hefty cost.
Tomorow my sr5 2024 methalic silver 2wd 5th gen is ariving tomorow.Just think nicely if you like to save money. And if your not going everyday to offroading ,that make sense 😅 r u guys agree ? But im thinking the pro. But if u think again, sr5 2wheels drive is A GOOD IDEA
