I’ve only been race for a few years so I don’t think I need carbon yet, and let’s get 10k subscribers on the supercross channel

Carbon isn't for everyone... it is very true. But if you are looking for the most performance, Carbon is the way to go.

My son is riding a repaired carbon frame, couldn't tell the difference 👍

Unffortunately in bmx racing its inevitable someone elses pedals are going to smash into your frame at some point or another in a crash so i think i'll stick with the alloy frames
@SupercrossBMX.
@SupercrossBMX. Год назад
Totally understand your concern, and that’s why we make aluminum still as well.. for many reasons… but you would be surprised by how few pedals actually get caught up on the frame during racing…

@@SupercrossBMX. Only if you're always at the front of the pack, Of course if you're a factory rider you don't have to worry about the battle scares damaging your trusty steed 🤣👍

Would there be a benefit to using carbon Kevlar? It’s very abrasion resistant. Maybe in select areas? Or not worth the engineering headache?
@SupercrossBMX.
@SupercrossBMX. Год назад
No, it has been tried, but there have been issues with the materials compositions mixing, but all things advance. So you never know for the future.

Carbon flex’s and stretches I know a person at my bmx club who had a carbon formula and was racing and the front tube came off it literally just snapped off
@stick004
@stick004 Год назад
That is a benefit of the Vision F1’s carbon monocoque design. It eliminates that bonded joint. The BLK2 is still bonded, but uses T1100-KS carbon. The same carbon the current F1 racecars are are made of. Formula doesn’t specify on their website what they use… so 🤷

So what happens if you snap your bb? Is that fixable? I had a carbon redline frame and the bb snapped
@SupercrossBMX.
@SupercrossBMX. Год назад
Depends on how it cracked ( snapped ) but that’s where a good carbon repair facility can let you know.

I've been hesitant with carbon fibre anything. From my layman's search on the net, it is not very environmentally friendly as it uses 14 times more energy in creating CF than metals and it is much more expensive to dispose of when the time comes. As someone who is an expert, is this true or just internet waffle?
@SupercrossBMX.
@SupercrossBMX. Год назад
While Carbon does take a lot of energy to create, it is something that does have advantages for certain things, and as far as 14 times more than metals. That is something I would love to see the exact data on, I have not seen research ever go that high. But I am sure in comparison to cheap materials, maybe. But when you compare to high end steels, Aluminums, etc... I don't think you would find it close to that high. It also saves on certain things as the part that is made of carbon fiber will have a much longer life, so there is less waste going to the landfill, and less items that need to be produced, so the research on the actual offsets need to be researched for exact details. As far as recycling, you can't just recycle it like a steel or aluminum, but you can't do that with Rubber or asphalt either. It has to be treated in different manners. And there are great carbon recycling programs being used now that are using chopped carbon for all kinds of things now. But I am not a carbon recycling expert.

This is being a bit nit-picky, but… the environmentally friendly part comes from where the carbon manufacturer gets it energy to create the carbon. If it gets it’s energy from renewable sources such as wind and solar, it’s very friendly. Same goes with metal… As for disposal, metal is recycled. Carbon cannot be, so there is that.

Carbon fiber isn’t a good solution if you’re a bit on the heavier/plus side; which is why frames, forks, handlebars are usually only rated for lighter riders.
@SupercrossBMX.
@SupercrossBMX. 9 месяцев назад
Carbon Fiber can be built for any type of rider, but most people always look for the weight advantage, not the strength advantage. And therefore, most parts are built and rated to a certain weight. But we can build a product that goes to a much higher weight rating, but it becomes heavier and then people don't want to buy it.
@RokinDaCazbah
@RokinDaCazbah 9 месяцев назад
@@SupercrossBMX. it would still be lighter and stiffer than aluminum or chromoly though wouldn’t it?
@gavingates8336

see but i can crash on my aluminium bike way more than carbon and i won’t have to worry about it’s structural integrity after getting just a scratch
@SupercrossBMX.
@SupercrossBMX. Год назад
You can crash your carbon bike quite a bit harder than the Aluminum frame , but regardless, a scratch won't hurt your Carbon, it is the CHUNKS you have to watch out for. But... for you, we did a video on Aluminum, because, heck, Aluminum is still a GREAT material too!!
