At 18 you become legal in all states and most states in America have an age of consent that is 16 so you cannot groom a 19 year old. You cannot groom a 16 year old in the state of Pennsylvania (where I live) and in most states grooming someone 16+ is impossible. Everywhere grooming someone 18+ is impossible. Not sure why society loved to infantilise those in their late teens! Nothing illegal about it but it’s certainly more strange for an older woman to go after younger boys than the other way around!

Even though if was still legal and consensual doesn't mean it couldn't leave Taylor lasting scars, as we can see in Would've, Should've, Could've. Here's a definition of 'Grooming'. Grooming is a form of abuse that involves manipulating someone until they're isolated, dependent, and more vulnerable to exploitation. So it isn't not always dependent on age but it could of played a part in their relationship dynamic as John was 32 and Taylor was 19 which is a 13 year age gap but on top of that John was a well established artist by then and Taylor being so young and inexperienced (literally and career rise). So that probably why someone people would refer to it as grooming however we have no idea the true in and outs of the relationship so who knows what actually happened between.
