You forgot to mention the feel of the turn signals. I think Doug Monroe said it had the best feel of any car in existence. The e38 740i - the best sedan of all time! Always nice to see more e38 video.
Mr. Perez, you sir have hurt my feelings, cause I own a E38 M Sport shadow line like yours, but mine has 234k and is still my daily driver for 5 years and I have the HALO HEADLIGHTS and it is SLAMMED ON BC COILOVERS, but minus the big speaker in the trunk, and still very reliable 😂🤣😂🤣 I am a subscriber and I watch all your videos, 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 keep ‘em coming brother.. awesome video.
I agree with you when you mentioned how you cannot feel how fast you are going until you look down at the speedometer. I experience the same with my E39 530i albeit it being slower and having less power than my 740i. It really is a dangerous game to play. Keep up the good videos man!
The first time I experienced that I was coming back from Vegas and on a straight stretch of freeway I started pushing it! I look down at the speedo and I’m pushing 140mph, felt like I was doing around 80mph 😂

Hey man showing love from NY, just bought a 740iL w 100k miles…. and i am in love. I had a slight problem with the abs module. Aside from that, it is now my favorite car that i have owned, has great room for my son and all of his stuff. Good luck with your kid!
I put a 15" sub in the back, drove across the country twice. Replace the timing chain guides (mine looked almost new but we're brittle) and the tensioner. I also adjusted the oil pump chain tension. I've never allowed anyone else to work on my car apart from mounting and balancing the tires and doing the wheel alignment. Which I also did myself before driving across the country the first time. Believe it or not, I managed to get it within spec just eyeballing it. When it came time to replace the tires, I let them do the alignment as well. They didn't add weight like they were supposed to and tried to say they did but I watched them do the job from start to finish... Also, I don't always buy "quality parts"...because I'm cheap lol. My wheel speed sensors came from eBay. They work just fine. I also replace the fuel injectors via eBay but I got factory injectors that had been flow matched. With all of that being said... I've only ever had 2 issues out of my car. The MAF sensor died within less than 5k miles. Thankfully I was wise enough to buy the one with a lifetime warranty and after the first time, I keep a Bosh as a backup in the glovebox lol. It went out once in Cali and once when I got back to Michigan. New, not a reman. The other issue was the valve cover gaskets leaking oil into the spark plug wells causing a misfire. I fixed that at a gas station on my way back to Michigan. Ultra black and don't look back. Oh, when I bought the car, it had a bad MAF. I replaced it with one-off eBay which was supposed to be new but was junk out the box. I drove to Cali with that one installed. The car was fully loaded to the point where I couldn't see out the rear glass and you couldn't see the top of the tires. I tried to replace it with a reman and got the same results. So I thought it had to be a vacuum leak. So I replace all of the intake gaskets on the auto zone parking lot just before heading into the mountains as a blizzard was about to hit. Drove through the blizzard and the mountains with all of that weight on a bad MAF. Had misfires if I left it in drive, had to manually shift it (M Sport) to avoid the misfires...but otherwise it had no issues. As for safety... I was in an e38 (my dad's) that got totaled. The roof buckled and people from all around came to see what happened. I had to climb out of the window, but we went home rather than to the hospital. I was so impressed that I set out to buy one for myself. Didn't even need the equipped first aid kit lol. Kinda makes me wonder what situation you'd have to be in to need that kit lol. Oh, that's another thing, since we're on safety, when k was driving through that blizzard, I couldn't see anything with my headlights on. I had to turn them off and drive with just my fog lights on while at the edge of my seat trying not to let the tractor-trailer in front of me get away. I was in the mountains with no guard rails and I couldn't see where the edge of the road was... I had to do 60mph to keep up with him. The snow was at least 6" deep and accumulating fast before they closed the road. The tires I have are the truth. I can tell they're getting worn though, they aren't as grippy anymore. These cars eat rear tires... I have to check, but I think I'm close to 10k miles on the rears and probably close to 20k on the fronts. Still look good, but I can feel the difference. That or Michigan roads have more oil since we don't have to pass smog testing... I know I'm a little all over the place...but when I did the timing guides, the exhaust cam on the driver side was a few teeth off. Never took the cam chains off or loosened the bolts at that point. Not sure how that's possible, but I corrected it! Though I remember doing a similar mod on a motorcycle once... But I thought it was the intake cam... Hints the VVT modern cars. So for the exhaust cam to be off is just flat-out bizarre... Anyways, great video as usual! I'm almost inspired to make some of my own, but I'm not sure when I'll have time...too much work to do...
Man! I finally picked my 2001 shorty sport this summer and sent it from LA to Portland in a weekend. I paid more than I wanted, but this was probably the worst year to buy a car like this and I had been waiting for two years.

Great video! I own a 2000 740il same color combo as yours. It’s my daily driver until the snow flies, when that happens I get in my 2003 Toyota Sequoia. . Early 2000 cars are great. The technology is good and you can still work on them. My friend Jeff is a BMW enthusiast and the reason I purchased the E38. It’s great to go to his home shop put the E38 on the lift and fix the issue instead of relying on the dealer. Keep up the great great content. I have learned a lot about my E38 watching your videos. You have encouraged me to change out the timing guide tensioner. Have you ever changed the automatic transmission fluid? Thanks for what you do.
