Excellent points! Thanks for another great video Ian!

Thank you Matt. I'm sure you could make a video listing a different set of reasons 😊

Hello Ian, just discovered you channel. I do like your way of speaking. Well, I have the Grandmother too. I must admit I don't use it very much. But I bought the Behringer Neutron, which is not expensive and add many many possibilities to the Grandmother, thanks to patches cables. I do advice it to you.

Hi Fred - Thank you very much. Sorry for delay, had a break. Yes, the Neutron is interesting and you can connect the Grandmother to all sorts of stuff 😊

Would love to see a Moog retrospective video, showing all the synths that Moog made, and which bands/songs use them prominently..
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh Год назад
That would be cool. One of my first memories of 'seeing' a synth was of Keith Emerson's Moog stack. For a retrospective Alex Ball would be your man but he said when he tried to do a Moog retrospective, the gear died on him so his only Moog video so far (and as far as I know) is a look at current gear.

@@IanWaugh Keith was the synthlord.. the hendrix of the keys.. I am following Alex's channel.. he does have amazing stuff.. but i would love to hear from your perspective too as i feel you would have more insight from a Rock/Prog music perspective..

@@MreenalMams Well, thank you so much. The Grandmother is the furst Moog synth I owned as back in the day they were prohibitively expensive. I would have killed my Grandmother for a Moog Modular in the 80s 😄 They're still not inexpensive and I think the Grandmother gives you the best bang for your buck - at least before the Moog price hike although this hasn't gone up 40%. Historically, the Minimoog was the synth of choice for most musos who could afford it but, because of their price, I'm afraid I didn't pay Moog gear much attention over the years. They were aspirational 😎

I love your enthusiasm, and as I've said before, I do believe you've found a synth soulmate with the Grandmother. From watching your videos about it, I really think it's one of the best of the newer lineage of Moog synths. It's got that Moog grit to the filter, and the added features which you've highlighted prove you don't have to spend thousands to get the Moog vibe.
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh Год назад
Thank you, Richard. I have other synths I like but the Grandmother is so hands-on and immediate (given my eye probs) that I spend more time playing with it. Have you got a favourite synth?
@richardhermans4457
@richardhermans4457 Год назад
@@IanWaugh Not really a synth, but my Yamaha Montage is my favorite keyboard. Although it's sample based, it can get some nice FM and synth patches going. I love my Voyager, but it's limited on how much I can use it. I tend to use my Korg ARP Odyssey more.
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh Год назад
@@richardhermans4457I wondered if your Voyager would feature 😊 The Odyssey seems very hands-on like the Grandmother. Was tempted by it but have Mr B's 2600 so maybe a bit duplication. Wish I could handle these modern workstations like the Montage...
@richardhermans4457
@richardhermans4457 Год назад
@@IanWaugh For the type of music I'm writing, the Montage works well with my workflow. I spent years being distracted by creating patches on synths and sampling with my Emulator II and Emax, Ensoniq EPS, etc. Now, the Montage(I had a Kronos) before I sold it to fund the Yamaha, allows me to focus on music. I am not a piano player and know zero about theory, but sitting down at the Montage Piano, is very inspiring for me. You do very well with your synths, arps, sequences, software, and you wear them well my friend. :)
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh Год назад
@@richardhermans4457 Ah, that's very kind, Richard. Yes, it is sooooo easy to get distracted by synth goodies. It definitely stifles creativity, I think. But it's fun. Like beer - but without the hangover 😄 I'm trying to cut down on at least one of them 🤣

Lovely video and I love my Grandmother so much. Keen to hear is there anything you/anyone would like Moog to add to the Grandmother to give it more function and capabilities perhaps with a firmware update?
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh Год назад
Thank you very much. There are a few features I'd like to see but we can say that about every synth so I try to work with what we have 😊 I'd be very surprised if Moog released any more updates, though....

@@IanWaugh What features would you like to see Moog add to the Grandmother? 😊 I do hope that they can do at least one more firmware update for us.
@IanWaugh
@IanWaugh Год назад
@@mass-1128 Well, one would be an input for the S&H, say from the Noise input. Dunno if that would be possible from firmware or if it's hardwaired in.
@mass-1128
@mass-1128 Год назад
@@IanWaugh That would be great however, I don't think it would be possible with a firmware update though. Hopefully, it can be modded, but only time would tell.
