Megadeth the original lineup, especially when all of them play Jackson's The sound was so phenomenal so spot-on. Metallica had some good stuff but when the Black album came out that was the end of the good writeing. Load and reload they just shot their load,
One of the Nu Metal bands Dave was referring to that he was forced to have open for Megadeth was definitely ENDO... They were DESPISED at a show at Celebrity Theater in Phoenix that Megadeth played like a month after 9/11 happened... A couple years later, I had the privilege of talking with Dave when he was filling up his Mercedes at a gas station I was working at back then... This was during his downtime because of his Saturday night palsy injury that almost retired him. He asked me what I'd thought of ENDO because that was the last Megadeth show I'd been to before the band went on hiatus... All I could do was grit my teeth and shake my head at Dave, and he kind of nodded and smiled in agreement, saying that was why they got dropped a few shows later.
Definitely Megadeth. Metallica was my starting line but when I first heard Megadeth I was completely blown away 😳. The riffs, lyrics, technicality, speed and aggressiveness was too damn good. Plus Metallica haven't released anything good since '91. Megadeth is more consistent and have Definitely surpassed Metallica in their later years.
Metallica is like the startline to the real thrash metal, and megadeth are the kings of thrash metal, best lyrics, best riffs, and a lot of diferent types of songs. Metallica is good, but Megadeth is pure greatness.

I like the world more with both bands in it. I kinda of feel the similar way about these two bands as i do the Stones vs Beatles. Megadeth are superior musicians there's no question. Have MORE constantly good albums I feel they have more sophisticated song topics and lyrics. However....Kill em all aside.(since it's almost a blend of both) from Ride the Lightening - AJFA Metallica is just as good as it gets.

I was around when AJFA dropped and it WAS mind blowing to me at 14 took me down the Metallica worm hole.. I heard Megadeth a few years after and try as I might, I just never had that same feeling from Megadeth.. No Internet.. No awareness of political band BS. I found that out later on in my metal journey so it was always a pure reaction to the music that was pumping into my ears..
Metallica was good (in the 80s). But now they're shit! Megadeth is highly underrated band and far better than those commercial sellouts who put they're tee shirts on sale so stupid teens and adults can buy em...
If you only compare each band in the 80s, Metallica wins. You're either in complete denial or just have a shitty ear if you can say that songs like Damage Inc, and One don't destroy any Megadeth song in terms of overall awesomeness. Even Dave Ellefson himself said that "Metallica were always miles ahead of everyone else".

Megadeth definitely is better, they have aged better and have released a more consistent discography with good material whereas Metallica hasn’t released a good album since ‘91
It's hilarious how this video is just a typical Megadeth fanboy giving out the usual talking points, yet it was a professionally made video with cool graphics and the AI voice narrator to make it look like a documentary. Well done. One incorrect point though. Kill 'Em All is easily Metallica's weakest album out of the first four. Thats basically the last album Mustaine wrote songs for, which means his true influence on the band's songwriting ended in 1983. Their sound and style changed dramatically with Ride The Lightning and Cliff's influence was a huge part of that. And plus Dave only wrote 4 out of 10 songs on KEA. James and Lars wrote the majority of that record. On Ride The Lightning they just used 2 individual riffs that he wrote. I mean, he's a great riff writer. And those 2 riffs came into fruition when he was in Metallica. They gave credit where credit was due. He was of course an integral part of the band in the first couple years, but then again so were James, Lars and Cliff. Besides, whether or not Dave had a little influence or a ton of influence on early Metallica isn't a good reason why Megadeth would be a better band than Metallica.

The musicians of Megadeth are far better, thats it. I also like Metallica songs but the instrumentals is just okay compared to Megadeth. But, I gotta give it to Metallica that they stick to their members at a longer time atleast, that gives them more of a "band" image than Megadeth which as everyone knows is just Dave Mustaine.

When Dave was talking about his struggles being the consequence of using black magic, I was skeptical. After all, I ain't superstitious. But then I think about how many people leave his band, and I'm like, yeah you know what I believe you now. Especially after you said "I mean there were a couple of situations where one guy called up my fiancee and said 'I fantasize about being with you when I'm with my girlfriend.' And I thought 'Oh, you're fired.'" I mean this guy had to finally ditch Ellefson because Ellefson fell into a barely legal trap, I suppose. But if someone no longer sparks joy, then fire them. So I got to be honest I prefer megadeth over metallica because: ● megadeth's drummers are better than lars let's be honest ● IMO Marty and kiko are better lead guitarists than kirk ● IMO Dave is a better rhythm guitarist then papa het ● megadeth generally play more complex riffs, drum fills ETC ● megadeth has a better and more consistent collection of albums after metallica's first 5 metalica stopped putting out good albums but megadeth haven't stopped putting out good albums ● megadeth's worst album or albums are no where near metalica's worst album's ● And finally megadeth have more albums than metallica
Megadeth is more precise And awesome with better and more complex writing with more adible Bass but Metallica has more badass vocialist but Dave is no slouch either his vocal infictions are more natural and awesome than James, but James has a cooler voice and slighty more vocal range so somewhat Close but Megadeth>Metallica

i prefer megadeth simply because the songs are better crafted, but there is some good Metallica stuff out there too. it's just not so interesting or melodic.
Metallica don't come close to Megadeth, the difference is Metallica are more accessible, and many people confuse ease of popularity with talent. Mustaine's rhythm work is in a different league to Hetfield

I love Megadeth. Their music is for musicians and people who dissect songs and listen to each instrument separately-stuff like that. Metallica is meathead music for guys who want to mindlessly head bang. Something to put on at a barbecue. Never liked them, never will.
If you love Megadeth then I assume you like metal. How the fuck can you like metal, but not like songs like Damage Inc or One? Metallica might be less melodic and might have more riff emphasis, but if you can't recognize and appreciate the musicality in Metallica's songs then you're tone deaf and definitely not a musician. Any real musician can figure out Metallica's songs are well-written compositions with interesting melodies and harmonies. Also, you're "meathead at a barbecue" analogy would work if you said Slayer.

Hammet is boring as fuck, his solos are below average usually, although the end of One he does a great job , have to give him that.. AJFA is the only album of theirs that i would listen to if i had to pick one. Except there's no bass and that ruins it for me. I also can't stand Ulrich as a person. He's an arrogant fuck for absolutely NO reason. Put him up against any other metal drummer and he'd be destroyed. He's irritating as a person and a drummer. These are my opinions. They don't have to be yours. Everyone has different opinions. As for Slayer, the musicians in that band would stomp all over Metallica. Lombardo against Ulrich?? Please. But riffs from Lightning and especially Puppets and Justice are phenomenal, legendary. Lars isn't the greatest drummer but he's good enough to provide a solid beat to some of the best metal songs ever written. I won't argue with you about Kirk. I'd rather still have Mustaine as lead guitarist. But I'll take Hetfield on vocals/rhythm any day of the week over Mustaine. Much better songwriter. And why not listen to band because you don't like the drummer as a person? Mustaine is one of the biggest assholes in the business. How many musicians has Megadeth gone through? Then you really bring it all home when you say Slayer are better musicians than Metallica. Lombardo over Ulrich, yes. But thats it. Tom Araya cant sing and is average at bass. @@johnp82 You make some valid points, my friend. And I'd like to clarify my statements a bit. I'll give you some of their (Metallica) riffs are pretty decent. It's funny, i prefer the riffs on Justice to any of their albums lol. I just like the groove on that record. The lack of bass ruins the enjoyment for me though. I saw them with GnR in 92 and it was a night when Axl left very early. People were pissed. Metallica came on and did an extra long set to try and make up for that and they were very good. So i can't take that from them. Maybe it is the technicality. My favorite bands are Megadeth, Maiden, Van Halen, etc. But then I'm obsessed with Cobain and Nirvana was not exactly the most proficient band in the world musically, except Grohl, but just something about them took over my soul. Personalities aside, Ulrich is not a very good drummer. Kirk is at least able to play his instrument and stay in time with the song. I don't know, man, i just don't care for them.
