Love the info now I'mma sub. But no disrespect big homie stop doing that style like that with your hair to one side like that. I thought you was a broad for a sec! Good shit though.
Slobs is fine when you are basic. But once you move up you basically gotta relearn everything when you wanna scale up. OBS has all the same stuff, you just gotta do it a lot
OBS Live allows backup and Restore of overlays :) Other than that it also allows some integration of stream elements functionality such as media/song requests , pausing alerts etc :)
The one feature I really hope OBS Studio takes from SLOBS is the selective recording. Be able to record some scenes but not others is really nice for making videos out of streamed footage.
Selective recording + cloud backup keep me on slobs and will forever until obs gets off their ass and adds these features. The first time I logged into a new computer and slobs restored my *-entire scenes-* from cloud with zero effort I was sold. Obs is for nerds who want to control everything, but kinda janky, slobs is for people who want to get shit done. (Sounds like a similar phone debate to me) edit: OH an streamlabs acquired ankhbot... only one of the best bots out there... Eat your heart out obs.
@@JonDotExe yeah. I really think it comes down to what kind of stream you wanna do. If your goal is to play games live and possibly record it. Slobs is the better choice. Didn't know about the cloud stuff. I do wish SLOBS had profiles for different sites/settings like OBS though.
Came to to say this. Selective recording is *fantastic* for the my use case. And the cloud storage/backups are absolutely essential in the modern, multi-device ecosystem. There's a huge portion of the streaming/gaming community that aren't technical, and don't have any interest in noodling around with plugins or wiring different apps/services together. It kind of parallels the linux vs. windows (or mac, I guess) debate... most people just want to get on with their lives, and not spend all their time in setup hell.
@@JonDotExe THIS. That cloud backup is a lifesaver. I've had my computer take a shit before and had to restore everything and it was great just being able to boot up SLOBS, sign in and have everything automatically put back into place like it had always been there.
I use SLOBS and I'm going to continue using SLOBS; however, I watched the video because I wanted to know if there was reason enough for me to switch over. I'm so used to SLOBS, that I'm sort of hesitant on learning a new OBS program. This was a good video with good points, however, being a new streamer I don't need a million features just yet, so SLOBS does what I need it to for the time being. Plus I do only have one screen and I rely heavily on that undo button at the moment. So, SLOBS seems like a good fit until I get to the point where I don't feel overwhelmed by all the different features and I'm more comfortable exploring other things. Thank you for the info!
Weirdly enough had the OPPOSITE issue on my old laptop when I first started streaming. OBS studio was basically crashing my whole system, frame drops, freezing a stream nightmare. Someone suggested SLOBS and had no issues whatsoever. Completely smooth gameplay and streams. Been considering going back to OBS now that I have a PC. Now that I know a bit more about what I'm doing I think it'd end up enhancing my streams slightly. Probably would keep slobs as a backup in case I lost my overlays or something lol
It was the same for me! I'm gonna try to use OBS again though, and hope for the best. 0_0 Have you switched back to OBS since? How has the change been for you?
The best thing about OBS.Live - if you stream on YT, you get YT chat dock. If you don’t use it, you have to MANUALLY change address of yt chat EVERY STREAM, in dock settings.
I've only streamed a few times so far and was recommended to use SLOBS because it was easier to setup and use. But im not like committed to it or anything. Mainly just using it to test the waters on how to stream and if I like doing it. Its pretty basic so i thought i would be good for that much. But i can see anyone serious about streaming how SLOBS would be too restrictive. The note about OBS and its plugin support alone seems like it would be more worth it than SLOBS. But the updates is another good reason.
Totally agree with everything, not a big fan of slobs and I had to tell a family member to swap because how terrible it was. She only liked it because it was easy to add widgets ..
I use SLOBS. The main reason why, is because when i'm live streaming on Twitch, I can stream while recording at the same time (when I want to), and I can choose what sources are shown on stream, versus what sources are being recorded at the same time. For example, my stream will show webcam/gameplay/music playing/my microphone, but when I'm recording I set it to only capture my gameplay footage, and my microphone, the recording will NOT show my webcam and will not capture any music that i'm playing in that recording, even though it's recording at the same time as i'm livestreaming. This helps me capture moments/clips from the stream, to put into my youtube videos without the things I don't want in those clips. I did use OBS Studio/OBSLive, but they didn't have a way for me to do this, so I switched because of that, and that's the only reason. I searched for awhile, but found nothing where obs studio could support this. This is called "selective recording" in SLOBS btw. Idk if OBS Studio/OBS Live has this feature yet, but I would be happy to switch if they had this feature that I utilize every day. (edit): When I searched for this feature on obs studio, I found multiple forums online on various websites and these threads all said the same thing at the time, that obs studio does not have this feature. I even looked in the official discord server, and while it was talked about for a future update, there were no current plans to have this feature :(
@@nuttylmao Once this becomes available in OBS Studio, I'll be switching back 100%, but it's such a useful and beneficial feature for the content that I produce on RU-vid that I gotta stick to SLOBS for now. I have a few of your videos saved to my computer for future reference for ideas I want to implement to my stream, but currently can't because SLOBS isn't supported :( but I have all this knowledge for the future haha
I see your points on this, but I think that Streamlabs is good for those who are starting out with streaming for the first time. Then maybe get rid of the bloat and go directly with OBS Stupid and such. I say this because some people who are starting don't have an artist side to make themes and etc like they normally see on their favorite streamers page when they stream. Streamlabs has that store that provides that stuff for you so you can at least get something flashy at first and then maybe move on from that when you get commissioned stuff done that is more themed to your personality.
Dont worry. We're working on an overlay system that's 100% browser based with open source extensibility but is 10x more amazing than the other sites. It will be used through the browser source, but you will have a neat dashboard for your broadcast stats on the site. We can integrate into OBS but that will be later on.
I like the slobs mainly for the function of being able to choose what is going to be broadcast, and what is going to be recorded file, I like to be able to hide the notifications in the recordings, but show in the broadcast, i can do this in the obs?
I've just recently moved from obs to slobs for this exact reason, i find slobs very taxing compared to obs. If there is an alternative I would love to hear it
Im here since you made that 3D Border by Harris in the Editor. Always happy when you make a new Video, Harris kinda only got those Just Chatting General Tips Videos now. Still a great guy. But you are Dope! Keep doing this stuff.
I used SLOBS for my stream. And now I am using OBS and StreamElements. The Only reason is that it doesn't let me customize my Donation website without giving it $12 per month. But not gonna lie I really like the customizable alerts in Elements more than Labs.
I just switch to Streamelements OBS live super helpful idk why a new streamer on SLOBS has to pay money for overlays, donations, etc. When u can get all that stuff for free on Streamelements. Like who wants to pay for there stuff, Thank God I switched to Streamelements
I agree with this video 100%. I came from OBS Studio, went to SLOBS for built-in live chat, discovered that I can have that with OBS.Live in OBS Studio, too and never looked back to SLOBS again. OBS.Live just adds Stream Elements features and shortcuts to the original OBS Studio version, it's a "comfort thing" if you use Stream Elements. More in a plugin way than being a different program.
That doesn't give you full control of scene transitions. e.g. If I want to go from A -> C, use a Fade transition. BUT, if I want to go from B -> C - use a Cut transition. This is not possible in OBS Studio without the OBS Transition Matrix plugin.
I am actually using slobs but am thinking of switching. Is there any way to have two instances of OBS studio installed? Right now I have Streamlabs set up for streaming and OBS studio for recording video's in higher quality. I know that I could use different profiles.. but I like the idea of using different programs. I know myself and I am going to do some kind of user error one day where I try to record a video on my streamprofile or something... Yeah I know it's a stooooopid reason to use slobs but here I am.. Awesome content btw dude! keep it coming :D
Yes, in fact I used multiple instances of OBS to record this video! The easiest way to do this is to install a portable install of OBS. Haven't made a video on that yet, but should be enough info to get you googling.
That bug still exists for slobs. My stream is absolutely unwatchable if I don’t run it as an Administrator. For newer streamers that go straight to twitch and sign up, slobs looks like the best option because of the big names attached to the advertising, and quite frankly that’s all I remember seeing when I signed up. Didn’t even notice OBS. Definitely wish I would have researched more before I started but the selective record feature is really nice. Helps for clipping the stream and cutting down on editing time.
I actually made the switch back to OBS thanks to your video. slobs was really laggy for me even the bare minimum to stream. After switching I use the same settings and tweaked it a bit and it looks way better and smoother than when I streamed on slobs. All that's left to do is set up everything again 🤣
I agree with you Nutty on the CPU usage.... i used to use Slobs mainly for streaming but i realised my game was lagging as I had to much running in the background. I switched over to OBS and its been cool every since. I use both softwares, mainly i use Slobs to update my overlays and themes as it has cloudbased saving which is a lifesaver - my hard drive got fired recently and Slobs cloud saving helped out alot. I then import my overlays/theme over to OBS and stream from there., and OBS has a hella of a lot of plugins software which can enhance my stream. Also yeah being able to click UNDO on Slobs is amazing, i hate that you can't undo something in OBS 😭
I used OBS for a couple years. Updated to OSCatalina and couldn’t get it to recognize my audio capture anymore. I tried for 3 days to get it working. I asked for help on the forum and got ignored so I switched to SLOBS. No problems. Happy with slobs.
Yep I've only recommended SL-OBS in special cases. Might take some work with OBS Studio, especially to make it do things that SL-OBS can do that OBS studio can't do by default, but in the end it's superior. Good stuff, man. But yeah, OBS Live is just an add-on to OBS Studio, not a standalone thing. And the features it offers were in place before OBS Studio added the same features kinda making it redundant. But it does help control alerts and do some Streamelements related alert things via Streamdeck integration, including a song request media streaming thingy.
i'm new to streaming -- I was running into issues where i'd spend a ton of energy and time researchng and optimizing my settings. i get everything the way i want it, then I have chat verify it works and stream goes great!! fast forward to the next day and all of my work is undone and I have to reconfigure EVERYTHING.
One thing that I think is weird with SLOBS is they don't support CTRL, SHIFT or ALT as a standalone hotkey, for eg. "push to talk" (it only works as a combo key). I asked them about 2 years ago why it doesn't work like in OBS Studio with a fully free choice over keys, I just was told that they are working on it. I thought this was weird because they used OBS as their source which has always had full keyboard supported as far as I can remember.
OBS.Live basically integrates Ground Control from stream elements into the OBS Studio and in the activity window you can see the donations. You can always use custom browser source of the activity window from StreamElements, but if you want to have custom bot name, you will need Ground Control opened. So having the plugin for OBS.Live installed is just simpler for this case.
Adding the activity window as a custom browser dock accomplishes literally the same thing, including the custom bot name. One useful difference brought to my attention is that browser sources automatically detect whether a browser source is a StreamElements overlay and provides a link to open the editor. This is the only feature I'm aware of that you can't normally do in OBS Studio, and it's a very minor difference.
Obs live basically gives obs studio a similar look to slobs. It also easily inputs stream elements bot system that can be edited for a custom bot name. It also adds your twitch chat as well and all the windows the plug-in offers can be moved around and resized on the fly.
Finally weaned myself off SLOBS. I felt my streams were becoming limited. I'm now using Touch Portal and Magic Music Visuals on my livestreams and looking forward to using StreamFX soon 💗
I use the OBS.Live integration because i can customize the name of my chat bot instead of seeing "StreamElements". The one thing I miss from when I used to use SLOBS was an app (the app store was kinda sorta semi-useful. It's like plugins but built-in) that would automatically play my top clips in succession. Great for a BRB screen to keep people engaged instead of a blank screen or empty chair.
@@nuttylmao Yeah, the Ground Control app. That may have even been the video that I found you on. I remember trying all that stuff and eventually gave up. Did more digging and it seemed like SE moved the custom bot name to bait people into using OBS.Live. IDK. Could be wrong. But that's how I get it done.
@@Huuge You actually don't even need Ground Control or OBS.Live anymore. Just add the activity window as a custom browser dock and follow the steps in the settings.
Plugins are possible in SLOBS, but limited Like I've used the OpenVR capture plugin so I could get a straight feed from my VR headset rather than trying to capture the game Works fine. SLOBS does have VST support for audio cleanup, So every reaper vst plugin (like the compressor you have shown) work in slobs as well
@nutty I just found your content today and am 10 videos in when I realized there was a difference between OBS and Stream Labs OBS! Oh and I'm also new to streaming.... So now I'm here to fully understand the difference.
At 3:03 talking about SLOBS lagging, I have the literal opposite issue. OBS lags REALLY badly with my webcam/audio interface (like 20 seconds), but I have no issues at all with SLOBS. I've tried everything I can think of to fix it too. OBS didn't always do this, but the last week or so has been unusable. oh well
Nutty, I love your videos! I'm new to streaming and have found them super helpful! After watching your newer top 5 plugin's video, I went to switch to OBS from SLOBS, but it definitely needs more time to set up. So my question is, gonna do a video on StreamElements?
I had an 5 year old PC and was furious that I couldn't stream at 720p so I decided to build a new one. The new one consists of: - Ryzen 5 2600x (waiting for 4th gen) -Gigabyte Arous Elite X570 -EVGA RTX 2080 Super XC Ultra - 2x8 Corsair RGB Pros 3200 - 258 gig NVME (Boot Drive) - 1T NVME (Game Drive) - 2T Western Digital Black 7200rpm I can play anything I want is 1440p but no matter what i did on SLOBS, everything would be blurry. Once i switched to OBS, it was perfect. I highly recommend not using SLOBS, you have changed my mind and I will never speak the mame SLOBS to anyone's.
Slobs gave me so many troubles I think it has poltergeist... Like randomly turning off my audio during a stream... During a sentence... I've had tons of weird problems and I never used the bloat. Wasn't for me.
The main reason I us SLOBS is the Selective Recording feature. Is there a plugin that does the same in regular OBS? And just for the reference: I know about the NDI solution, my PC simply can't handle it.
I would change to OBS studio but A. Im dumb as hell when it comes to setting things up and B. I stream from a garage gym and its hot as hell out there. With SLOBS I can do most of my setup inside and cloud save, open in the garage and drop sources in and not have to sweat box myself doing menial stuff!
I went with slobs today and created some nice overlays, but I figured out how to add sub alerts on OBS studio, and that was the only reason I got SLOBS. might go back to OBS :)
I mainly use Streamlabs because for some reason regular obs doesn't work well for me. Another thing is that when I use openvr on obs it starts causing render lag even without having vr on. I like streamelements though so I am thinking of using streamelements with streamlabs. I think I might go back to obs again once I get another pc so I can use my current as a streaming pc while the new one will be the gaming computer.
Slobs is based on the old OBS architecture, which I don't think OBS updates anymore. OBS moved to Studio because the completely new code base let's them do more with it. The old architecture was literally holding them back. The problem was with the new architecture they had to let go of a couple features. With news that OBS was going to abandon the old architecture Stream Labs came in and decided to fork it, as a couple of features in their plugins are based on the features dropped in Studio. Those features were so important, I can't even remember what they were, now. However if you do rely on them, maybe slobs is for you. Going forward you'll be missing out on many features available only because of the Studio architecture. This also goes for plugins. Many literally aren't possible using the old architecture. More importantly, the people writing them aren't interested in working with multiple code bases.
Dude. Now. Seriously. What the heck. How da hell did you get that table to be so slick, clean and cable free with three monitors, pc and even stream deck on it?????? Pls answer this! I want answers! In a video! Showing your setup and cable management! I’ll wait here.
so I used to use OBS studio.. but then it started to have connection issues during my streams... Then I switched to SLOBS.. voila.. no connection issues.. I don't know if it only haapened with me.. but SLOBS helped me out. and I found out slobs use less CPU than OBS Studio.. better for a single desktop scenario.. though I agree to some of your points... keep up your good work.. try to make a video about how to use a condenser mic as your gaming mic.. like using your streaming mic to use in the games to talk to your team mates..
Honestly I used SLOBS for most of my time streaming. I really really like it. However I switched due to the CPU usage. Holy shit it uses so much. I still use Streamlabs for widgets and Alerts though. Theres other things I like better too. I love that I can move elements with the Arrow Keys, like... WHY OBS? Why you no let me!
Tbh i used OBS and switched to SLOBS i didnt found anything that was worse, i like SLOBS especially for the complete twitch integration, but im always open for tips
Great video, man as for OBS. Live it has some other features other then the activity dashboard, Cutom bot name if you use the stream elements bot, it allows you to edit your alerts and widgets from within obs kind of like SLOBS lets your do with stream labs, and supposedly it dose some behind the scenes optimizations to obs but I cant confirm that one
Adding your activity window as a custom browser dock literally does the same thing, including the custom bot name. I'm also not sure that you can add alerts from with OBS. As far as I know, you still need to build up your overlay within a web browser. I'd like to see video showing otherwise, because I can't find it.
Hi. I used streamlabs for 10 months before I realized how bad it was. I was pulling my hair out! I really wanted a single pc setup, as it's much less convoluted of a setup, less points of failure, and it's 2020: I should be able to pull this off on 1 pc. So, slobs could not handle the task, even having a 3080 ftw3, a 2070 super, an i9-9900k, and 32 gb of ram to work with. Even if my usages were at 50% or below on all processors, memory, etc, streamlabs just made my games, or the pieces in streamlabs, misbehave. So after weeks of attempting to optimize streamlabs, removing parts of my overlay to try and get it to where I could make my dream of 1 pc streaming happen (which did not help, i even tried a new scene collection with nothing but game capture, still stuttering), I downloaded OBS studio. I was surprised to see it imported my scenes from slobs. I was able to immediately compare, and what happened was shocking: my games all played as they should when connected to this pc. It was like I didn't have any streaming software open (when compared to what would happen when streamlabs was open). Bear in mind I employed all the optimization techniques available in streamlabs, like media caching, I compared performance when hardware acceleration was on for sources, and off. (there was no change here, as I said my usages were in the mids, I had tons of headroom). In summary: even though streamlabs may be reporting low usage, and your pc is running cool with lots of headroom: something is wrong with streamlabs. It just sucks for 1 pc streaming. I tried, like Indiana Jones, to find where something may have been wrong, but that search came up with no suspects. BONUS: all of the moments in Nutty's videos where he jokes abnout the cool abilities of OBS not being available to SLOBS users are no longer a stinging in my soul.
I sorta had to use slobs for a while because for some reason regular obs didn't always want to show the games I played, but I'm gonna use obs tonight because it shows my game this time. obs is also better with my webcam, because sometimes my webcam glitches or unplugs and with slobs I would have to create an entirely new webcam source if I want it to work again, with obs I just have to deactivate and reactivate the source to have it work again
The only reason I need for using SLOBS : Native login and link-up with FB. Without that, the alerts don't work. You can't use stream key to show alerts on FB Live.
I use slobs tried using obs before I knew anything really about streaming maybe on some downtime I’ll check out obs again and tinker around with it I respect this video because you made some great points on multiple platforms
Thanks for this! I literally didn't know there were ways to add alerts to OBS Studio. I've had a few issues with lagging in SLOBS recently so I'll definitely look into some of those plugins you mentioned.
you definitely gotta mention obs.live by streamelements and how that includes more features than slobs anyways. but my biggest reason to say to switch to obs is that obs has a discord that has a chatbot where you can upload your text log and it'l tell you why youre having an issue. just upload a log and itl be like hey dont use 2 game capture sources in the same scene. i build computers for people and when they go to stream and they have issues, i cant debug ANYWHERE near as easily.
I rly enjoy ur videos dude :) The only Channel that i use the bell for notifications. I wann create a button in Lioranboard in order to views can mute my MIC for 3 secs or just make my Voice higher for a while. A video about ideas for Lioranboard would be ++ do for me. Thanks for all the content
If you would like an alignment option search for a very old program called Cool Ruler its also ftee. I use it all the time when I need to align things up in Photoshop and many other programs. I would honestly be lost without it. If you have trouble finding it or onstalling it just let me know and I can give you a copy of the one I use. There is also a previous poat by someone saying the is an undo feature in OBS Studio.
I'm using SLOBS because it's easy for now, but its so heavy. And my laptop can barely handle it. I'm really planning to move to OBS. Just need to learn it more
We would switch from SLOBS to Classic OBS the moment it has - Scene collection cloud sync - Embedded chat and stream title/game editing when only using your stream key instead of logging into your account (We are muitiple streamers streaming to one channel, and the above would be killer features for us.)
@@exeldro I tried redirecting the settings folder with the scene collections to OneDrive, and OBS got very confused. I never tried putting the whole application online, though. Mhm. Thanks for the input. :)
The OBS Live addon at least lets you change title, game, and adds chat and activity feed and media streaming stuff. And Streamelements overlays are just a browser url, everyone can set up their scenes using the same browser sources. Its definitely doable.
Due to the easy steps to integrate overlays and alerts i used SLOBS. But since then, im safer to use all of that stuff, i switched to OBS Studio because of the big impact SLOBS has on my hardware. Lowest amount was over 3% idle usage of my CPU for nothing!? Love ure videos, keep it going and yes... U validated my opinion.^^
I use to use slobs because I’m stream on RU-vid and also when I press the start stream I don’t have to go to RU-vid studio and hit go live and streaming while having RU-vid studio open makes lag. But then they have auto start and stop so I can hit start stream on obs studio which means less lag.
