If I had a dollar every time I said that I want a (insert small car here) and someone responded "No, that's too small, you'll end up killing yourself. Big cars are much safer.", I would have enough money to buy my own safe, small car.
Stick to the Aygo, Yaris, Civic or whatever you wanna buy. They look so different from another, they feature new technology and are so much fun due to their small wheel base
People dont realize that: - The center of gravity is higher, and especially older crossovers have the risk of tipping over - Big car doesn't mean that it scores better in crash tests. According to the tests made by NHTSA, almost every large muscle car and full size truck scored poorly in front overlap crashes. Size doesn't mean that the frame and crumple zones will do their job better. It might do worse since there is more weight it has to stop because of inertia. - Some small cars destroy the competition in crash tests. Smart cars, while horrible imo, have a shell that fairs extremely well. Mercedes slammed an S Class into one to demonstrate the shell working. Older Saturns, while having body parts made out of plastic, have solid frames and scored brilliantly on crash tests. Unfortunately, no one actually cares to research the reality of this situation. I'm not hating on large cars, but the argument is stupid.
Studies have shown that the reason SUVs are considered "safer" is that its bigger and heavier so when it crashes against other smaller cars like sedans/hatchbacks/coupes it will protect the passenger while destroying the other people..... Ironically if everyone in the world used SUVs the safety advantages are gone but the disadvantages said in the video such as tall height and crushing pedestrians still remain....
The thing about this is, for the same size chassis and weight class, sedans may be safer than crossovers as their bonnets are longer and therefore have longer crush zones as opposed to the suv, yes, the crossover can have higher ground clearance, but, it may crush into the floor, trapping the person there. As well as the rollover risk and t bone risk.
@@revengeoveraero9366 Facts. SUVs are practical tho. I prefer Sedans but if you got money get them both. If I had a choice I'd get the Kia Telluride, that thing is beast. Hyundai Elantra/Kia K5 and Mazda 3/6 are top sedans IMO. Mix and match.
@@reinhartgregory suvs are not practical. If you want storage space, get a minivan, if you want utility, get a minivan, wagon, or real suv or truck, if you want off-roading, get real suvs. Crossovers are selling something that gives you less, for more money.
And obviously guzzle more fuel as they're rather big and heavy. And don't forget the amount of extra accidents they cause when they flip over in situations where a sedan/hatchback would do just fine.
You know what the true travesty is? When brands like Bentley, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini and even *Ferrari* start making SUV’s. No SUV on the face of this planet deserves a Lamborghini or Ferrari badge.
I can forgive Lamborghini because they at least made a cool SUV in the past, the LM002. Though, I'm still disappointed they didn't put their hallmark naturally aspirated V10 in the Urus and borrowed Audi's twin turbo V8 instead.
Meanwhile, a few brands like McLaren and Koenigsegg were pretty serious about the situation. They decided not to make SUV models and instead have came out with new supercar models with the focus to ensure practicality. Take the McLaren GT and the insane Koenigsegg Gemera for instance. The McLaren GT is about defining the word of "grand tourer" with the feature of a spare storage space over its mid-mounted V8 engine. While the Koenigsegg Gemera is about bringing the whole family of 4 people in with speed and comfort, with a camless 3-cylinder engine and three electric motors as the powerhouse.
As well as turning proper suvs into crossovers, they are turning sports cars into crossovers too. Ex) mustang? CROSSOVER. eclipse? CROSSOVER. New Corolla variant? CROSSOVER.
@@dorianpalinic5703 but wagons are rare these days u know. Second wagons are based on sedan platforms there’s only so much you can do until you need a bigger platform. Do I like suvs over wagons. No. But are suvs useful? 100 percent. Car guys just like trashing on them because why not
it’s literally funny how it’s fine to drive a heavy-ass SUV which will pollute the environment way more than the average sports car but it’s not ok to drive a proper sports car which is lightweight and way more efficient. These Karens literally ruined the car industry
@@youraveragejdmenthusiast430 dude no one really has more than 2 kids these days ! A 4 seater car is enough to take 2 kids! But yeah ,wagons are the coolest saloons next to hatcbacks and sedans!
Reason 2 is the one I agree the most with. Very few modern "SUVs" are true body-on-frame SUVs. If you want a unibody family vehicle, buy a minivan or a station wagon instead of some chuncky lifted blob that is masquerading as something with capability.
But people buy an SUV instead of a minivan, cause the Van is really uncool and seems just like a family car... Which is exactly what they need, but they just rather buy whatever is cool at the moment, and that happens to be practical this time ( like in europe, around 2000 cabriolets were considered trendy, but impractical of course... now the vehicle class that is considered trendy and cool are SUVs, that are also practical...) so they buy it
The main takeaway is that SUVs are so compromised in terms of visibility, fuel economy, handling, and interior space. The things that SUVs are good at, like off-roading, are not being taken advantage of by SUV shoppers. The only reason why they buy them is because of their high seating position (eye roll), and because they THINK they need the extra space.
@@otnoirhc true. I have a crv and accord. back then my pair was a civic and a vitara. I always have two for their respective purposes but for the daily grind and comfort... always a sedan.
@Donald That’s like asking would you rather ride a bicycle or drive a Tahoe. I’ll drive an Accord or Civic; a happy medium. And in your case, if I’m living by myself, I’ll have an apartment building. Not an oversized house, not an inadequate tent.
"sport" "utility" "vehicle" too much weight and drag and height for sportyness too little space for utility (they are big on the outside but in inside is actually smaller than that of sedans or even hatchbacks) they are like a parody of a real car that is actually good at nothing
No. 6; bigger blindspots. Even though there’s blind spot monitoring on a lot of these bulbous hulks of metal, it isn’t hard to change lanes only to sideswipe someone in an NA Miata because Karen ignored the beeping from her blind spot monitoring in her 2018 Chevy Suburban
Oh no if ford are making more SUVs, the Fiesta will turn into an SUV and If that happens I will cry my eyes out! The fiesta is such a great little hatch
Sad story: Somewhere in the car world, there was a car called Toyota Yaris. Yaris' life was great until Toyota did a regular big corporation move and turned Yaris into an SUV. Atleast Lada and VW lifted their models, they didn't turned them into SUVs.
Wagons are my favorite vehicles - you can see your surroundings and maneuver on the road without endangering yourself and others. Plus, in a wagon, you can fold the seats down and there is enough room to lay down or haul timber! A true adventure vehicle. SUVs = Such Useless Vehicles
The real SUVs I truly accept are the good ol' body on frame SUVs with true 4WD, high ground clearance and locking differentials ready to tackle treacherous offroad terrain not these modern soccermom unibody FWD suburban-family friendly CVT "SUVs".
I do agree with you mate, there are too many SUVs in the UK. You'll still see sedans and coupes and even the occasional modified car here and there, but there's still too many SUVs in the UK.
One thing that you missed but it doesn’t always apply, sometimes when I’m driving, riding in a car or just out in the streets I see something interesting or someone I’m with sees something interesting, we say look at that dog doing a handstand! But then suddenly a suv drives past and blocks the dog doing a handstand! I know this seems rare but it happens to me a lot and most situations I would have seen the dog doing a handstand if the Toyota landcruiser was an Impala or a corolla.
3:08 "... the true car aficionados are returning to coupés, convertibles or elegant sedans ..." I've never owned an SUV, but I currently own a coupé (BMW 6 series E63 LCI), a convertible (MAZDA MX-5 NC pre-facelift) and an elegant sedan (JAGUAR XF X250 LCI) ☺.
My country has way too Many Fuel Wasting SUV’s that are cheap but trash, only 1 star in crash tests and the country’s best selling sedans are almost gone, My friend almost died in his SUV when it lost controlled and hit a Lorry...
Car companies bring more and more SUVs to their lineup and the main difference is a slight length difference and a completely new name, or maybe a slightly different grill. =D

I needed this video, the wife wants me to get a suv because it’s “safer”. Even if I drive us around in my 2004 Camry sedan with no problems for years lol
Besides the roll over risk and the lack of visibility, keep in mind braking is harder in an SUV is slower due to the higher curb weight and body roll! Don't let her talk you into a cuckover!

The only time when a station wagon is outclassed by an SUV is offroading, but nowadays, people who drive SUVs are boring grocery getters who are afraid to go on a slightly damaged road.
I've got a 90s Suburban and it does exactly what I need it to. When I haul my family it has ample seating for everyone to be comfortable, when I go scuba diving with more than one other person I can take the third row out and have ample room for gear and tanks (cold water in my area, so dry suits are essential), and when it snows in the winter, it has a proper 4 wheel drive system to get up the hill to get home. Finally, parts are cheap and plentiful and there is ample access to everything for maintenance and repairs, which I do myself.
Crossover SUVs, the car category that single-handedly killed sedans, wagons, and minivans together 😭😭😭🤬🤬 Manufacturers, please stop making crossovers and make cars and true SUVs (you're called car makes, not crossover makers)
It can't be a coincidence that almost 90% of SUV's I come across have the most incompetent dogshit drivers that god has forsakened the world with I can't put the dread that looms over my head when I see a Jeep Cherokee within a 5 meter radius on the road into words.
I had a 2001 Honda CRV SE al though a very reliable and good car. It was very boxy, Slow and couldnt keep up with traffic and also made it difficult to get off of an off ramp. needless to say after 5 years I just got rid of it and went back to a sedan. I will never own another SUV again!
Making the battery is just as environmentally damaging as any lifespan of a typical combustion engine lifespan. If you really want an eco-friendly transportation then get an bicycle. Only requirements are man-powered by your legs, arms and eyes.
Not SUV, crossover... Suv is supposed to be capable for off-road with 4 wheel drive, and big trunk. But crossovers are mostly large with not enough space in the back and cabin, and mostly crossovers come in front wheel drive.
SUVs are clogging the roads because the the people who drive them think bigger car = safer car, If you want a safe car buy a saloon or an estate car they are better in every single way possible
Bottom line: heavier vehcles have a longer stoping distance and thus give you LESS REACTION TIME! The most common road crash: the single vehicle hitting a tree etc, is MORE likely to be fatal.
The worst thing, I think, is the handling. Trying to avoid getting in an accident should be top priority. A lower and lighter car will win every time. It steers better, brakes better, won't tip over and if a collision occurs it will likely be at lower speed and takes less force to stop.
I drove a crossover courtesy car whilst my car was being serviced and I went down a nice twisty road with it to see how it compares to my own car and my god did it feel unsettled they tried to make it handle better with a stiffer suspension but in the corners you could still feel body roll but it actually felt like it wanted to tip over and highly unsettled whereas my own car which is just a normal hatchback feels far more settled even at much higher speeds in the corners you might get understeer if you get too spirited but you never feel unsettled or like the car will tip over
Also for safety: they have very little agility for quick course corrections to prevent a collision and on the event of a collision that's an extra 500-1000Kgs of weight on the victim, And resaon number 6: Game developers think they're fun to race with. No! They're boring, slow, and annoying to corner with. Give proper off-roaders, proper racing trucks, but quit it with the SUVs
It's not so much of SUV's themselves that irritate me, but it's the people who buy & drive those stupid things. No matter where I park, a gigantic SUV or a full-size pickup truck ALWAYS parks right next to me (when there are plenty of other spaces available), fully blocking my view. I had to install x3 cameras on the rear bumper of my 2004 TL. The majority of people, regardless of which country, have no considerations to others. This one reason is enough for me to hate SUV's.
@@cfg_form2122 can you fit 6 people comfortably in a hatch? Can you carry literally anything you need in a hatch? No you can't. Are you misinformed or stupid? It's literal common sense that you can fit way more stuff in an suv than a hatch or a sedan.
@@lollyofelly9510 exactly, dont you hate when youre at an intersection, wanna turn left and then there is a huge ass hummer blocking your view to the right so you cant see if cars are coming
SUVs are useless drive around and people in SUVs are driving a big car by themselves just get a sedan or hatchbacks. They use the excuse it's a family car but just get a damn van if you have a family. SUV owners have a superiority complex. Just my opinion
Wait a minute, doesn't SUV stand for sport utility vehicle? If you need it mostly for utilitarian purposes (my dad for example does), an SUV is very useful...
Remember when i went back to america 3 suv flip over and one buring with a safe the world logo, but in USA, kids get cheaper insurance for diving SUVs, Because they are "safe"? My rav4 with a i4 awd with lift kit, if good, because i live in a crazy place that looks like dakar on a good day. I have the emu suspension great! Still wanna buy a hilux soon and modde it like the one Fernando alonzo drives.
I feel like people forget these two reasons when talking about suvs, not saying I like them but it’s still vital to know. One is ground clearance. It’s pretty obvious suvs (mostly) have high ground clearance, which yes it isn’t used all that much but in an area where it snows a lot, it’s necessary to have. Another is safety in the way that it’s safer for the occupants. Remember people buy suvs for THEM to be safe, not others. And, with majority being in an suv, it’s better to go head to head against another suv than let’s say a car.
cfg_Forumic I’m talking about the majority. You may have the best driving skills in the globe, but others don’t, which high ground clearance and 4wd helps them. Not to mention their normal routine. I’m sure you don’t need to haul a lot of stuff, which is why you opted for a sedan, but in the case of let’s say someone who has to haul a lot of products everyday, an suv is much help
@@yourlocalcarguy9524 Yourlocalcarguy A major part of SUV's are FWD, so is my sedan. The ground clearance alone wont help you drive... Not sure where you get that from. If you really need more space get a wagon, SUV's aren't even that spacious. Often they try to shave weight for better safety etc. Cutting the space down.
No 1, the "they all look the same" has been an argument of almost every car segment since I was a kid. In 1980, it was sedans and hatchbacks that was said to look all the same. When the mpv came, it eåwas said that no one can tell a difference. Then came the SUV. The thruth it is a question of you being a car person or not.

I still believe there is a market for sedans and hatches, just think about elderly or single people who don’t have families, all they’d need is a car to get around in and they wouldn’t want a big SUV, all they’d need is a hatch or sedan.
VW be like: STFU! (t-Roc, Tiguan, Touareg, T-Cross, maybe Amarok) Mercedes: idiots! (GLK, GLC, G Class, GLB, R-Class... with n end) BMW: Idk what u r talking about! In my opinion people that buy SUVs have no idea how a vehicle works. They think oh big and AW drive SUV the right choice but it’s not always most SUVs are not even AW drive and most normal cars can have AW drive too. People buy these cars for two reason one they think they are invincible in winter time and two I can store all my crap in them that I don’t even need. That’s how I see people who buy SUVs
We must save the planet, so we're discontinuing our station wagon and sedan models. Anyway, here's 5 new SUVs that have the drag coefficient of an apartment building and weigh 2.5 tons.
The funniest part on what you said is that I herd about a some time ago when Mitsubishi release there new line-up for there SUV's lineup and a few Mirages on the showroom, nobody was paying attention to them and all the eyes was focus on a sexy red mint condition of a (Early I think) 3000GT, which I have to say good for the public to know what style and taste is for a car. I bet you Mitsubishi executives felt very fucking stupid after that lmfao.
When the economy crashes again, unless everyone is electric by then people will flock back to smaller cars. Not as many as the previous crash since most SUVS then got 15 mpg, but the equivalent platform car always has better mpg and costs thousands less.
SUVs aren't bad cars, yes they are prone to rollover, they have blindspot problems, and some have terrible gas mileage. But their not bad cars, we do ofen see them everywhere and are replacing cars such as sedans, station wagons, minivans, and hatchbacks but still I don't think their bad since automobile marketing for SUVs are growing high in demand.
Range Rover makes the beautiful SUVs. The most gorgeous in the Range Rover lineup, in my opinion, are the Velar and the new Evoque. On the German side, the Porsche Cayenne and the Macan. Beautiful design. Blurs the line between sports sedan and SUV.
6. they represent 15% of the deaths in kids (thanks to his visibility problems) 7. in a frontal car crash if you are driving a sedan is 40% more likely that you are gonna die if its against an SUV 8. Also u are more likely to die if your SUV turn over in a car crash 9. There are far more useful vehicles for utility on a city, you need space? a station wagon is far more efficient 10. Their bed size is small for an actual work, plus its high makes it a problem to carry things which makes people who really need an "utility" vehicle opt for a van instead or a light truck who is more efficient to carry heavy loads on a difficult terrain. 11. There are more than one study that shows SUV owners tend to be the worst drivers 12. Only reason SUV are a thing is to make car manufactures make more money So basically they're meant for killing small children and carry fragile egos in that small bed size that doesn't work for anything else
Oh and by the way to add spite fuel to your point of #11, the people who owns and drives SUV's usually don't know jack shit about anything for car maintenance or how to drive well and thus why modern cars have all these bloated and fucktard proof safety features because people just don't give a shit about anything but themselves on the road and how fast they want to get to there destination by sparing seconds off the time and got. But do the same thing back to them and they will get angry at you and start to rage like the fucking child they are, it's a fucking mental asylum for American Roads here man. Bonus points if they love using social media behind the wheel because they have an attention span that is less than a goldfish. Yes, goldfishes are smart really. Maybe smarter than the typical American that love to consumes so much but never questions anything of it.
