Someone in our discord shared your channel and I'm so happy they did! I LOVE you guys!! This video was great, looking forward to binging your videos :D
Thanks a bunch … sometimes I wonder if we have more fun talking about what made the game fun than the fun of playing the game … This has been a unique process of working together and trying to figure out what we want in a channel. I am surprised at the amount of input and encouragement that we have received. Thanks for your comment!!
The big question is,”who wrote this comment? Jeff or Jamie? … our money is on Jamie but we aspire to keep Jeff’s attention all the way to the end of one of our videos … even a short one :). It’s not a short attention span as much as a healthy dose of interest in everything … at least that is what we keep telling ourselves.
Literally just discovered this channel after a year of being obsessed with board games and amassing a collection of 100+ games and large all in kickstarters. I love what you are doing. You guys seem like my kind of people. All substance and genuine fun and discussion without the typical board game channel soy or virtue signaling. 🔥🔥🔥
100+ games sounds like the addiction is real! And it does sound like we might be the same kind of people … do you have a favorite of the moment? I’m also curious about any treasures in your kickstarter adventures … I get in and out of kickstarter depending on the budget ability but have found some really fun things. Thanks for your comment!
@@DeadGoldfishProd look up TGG games. They rock and back kickstarters so you don’t have to. They sell you the final product for a little less than backing it direct and you aren’t out money for a year plus. Next arrival I am looking forward to is Return to Dark Tower All In. Favorite kickstarters at the moment are Assassins Creed Brotherhood of Venice, Chronicles of Drunagor, Steamwatchers and Zombicide 2nd Edition. I mostly play solo and dabble from time to time with my wife but it has to be a less complex game. 3 year old son I am eager to get into the hobby. Definitely will be looking into building the table too soon featured on the channel. Using wood vinyl flooring is genius.
The Gaming Goat in Vegas is a regular visit when I head to the airport. Jeff (owner of the TGG) is the one that got us into Regicide. I don’t know if I have ever walk out empty handed and sometimes I have to ask for a box. Thanks!!
@@DeadGoldfishProd Yes - so glad to hear you already met Jeff and know about TGG. I have the luxury of living locally and stop in almost every week. I also catch the Saturday morning streams Jeff does.
Glad you enjoyed! @Sam Brock and I will have to check out some of your Kickstarter finds! Oh to be closer to TGG…guess it’s best for our bank accounts 😬
I’ve seen videos like this before, but this was by far the most original and best. Your answers weren’t cookie cutter and they were explained so well. I love that you had examples and that you used the tiles! Great way of having “title/lower thirds” without having to do them in post :) As always, very funny banter between you 2 and the zooming in on the hand movements gets me every time. Lol
Hey Eric, thank you! See we did help you scrub through the video and know when we had a new point :). Both Bodie and I enjoy talking about why we enjoy the games and what it is that makes some games more enjoyable than others. We did not talk about the all important concept of who you are playing with determines how much you enjoy a game as well. Maybe that we will be another video. Your comments are encouraging. Thanks again.
Always happy to open RU-vid and find a comment from you! We’re happy you noticed the titles 😁 we have an affinity for anything analog even though we are working with a digital medium.
Thank you! Half the fun is filming the other half is editing 😁 it’s in the edit that you can do just about anything you want! @Sam Brock gives me plenty to work with 😂
Wow, youtube suggestions are on point today! Loved this video, liked, subscribed instantly. Great, funny but not obnoxious editing and I really like the fire in between you :) it's not often you see a fire place on "set" of the board game youtube channels. Hello from New Zealand
Thanks a bunch! I like the fireplace too! My favorite part is that we don’t have a “set”. We just film in the garage where we play games. Glad you enjoyed it!!
Glad the video was enjoyable for you. Sometimes while editing these I start doubting whether anyone will actually enjoy them. In fact, we almost redid the whole video because I felt like trying to include the fire just made for an awkward angle 😬 really encouraging to hear you liked it!
Love it! This is the content that fits the niche you’re tapping! Love the tiles! Love the goofy “sub”-“titles(?-labels?)”! Love the crop/follow of the random hand motions! It’s just the kind of stuff I expect to find in a “garage”! Just a couple of regular guys being themselves and talking about stuff they love. Keep going! Looking forward to seeing where this goes!
I think you both hit the core of why I enjoy this hobby between your two lists. Definitely people and relationships but also the decisions, experimenting, and experiences that games can uniquely provide. Another aspect that separates table top games for me is the tactile nature of the physical game and shared space. Being able to physically interact with components and people is a huge win for board games more so now than maybe ever before as we’re more tied to screens and digital interactions. Keep up the great work! Just discovered your channel and enjoy what you’re doing!
Ahhhh … I totally agree. When trying to figure out why we like Crossroads that is one of the main things. Everything is real in front of you. I don’t know why we like to play with things but I enjoy that far more than a screen.
Great comment Mark! @Sam Brock and I have talked about the tactile nature of games and your absolutely right! There’s just something about physically holding something that’s just better than screens. You mentioned Experimenting. I hadn’t thought of that in context of games but that’s a great point. I love replaying games because I love trying new strategies. That process of discovery is fantastic! Well @Sam Brock looks like we need to make another video!
Holy cow, I can't believe how much I like about this channel right out the gate. I love that you're in a garage workshop, I love the father/son relationship, and I really, really, like the wood burning stove. My big project during covid was turning our old freestanding garage into a gaming space, and I was sorely tempted to heat it with a stove like that! Anyways, I wanted to tip my hat to you guys. I haven't found a board game channel that made me excited to watch it right from the get go like that. Keep it up and wishing you guys the best.
Thank you for your kindness! We love the wood stove and went through great lengths to feature it in this video (Hence the somewhat awkward angle). We have it running for most every video (unless we are recording in the summer. 110 degree weather is just not quite right for a wood stove). We have discovered that playing games in the garage is the best. You can be as loud as you want, keep the lights on as long as you want, and if you want to customize anything you have all the tools at your disposal. Thanks for watching!
Thanks a bunch. It has been fun to just be ourselves and not try to live outside of who we are. To hear from folks like yourself who enjoy. It is very encouraging. Thanks for watching and we are looking forward to more videos in the future.
The lovely couple, Jamie and Jeff, recommended your channel recently. I'm so glad they did. You both seem like very nice and genuine human beings. I like all of your reasons you came up with to describe what make board gaming a fun hobby. I've just gotten into the hobby in the last two years and am still enjoying discovering what makes it so compelling for myself. I think mostly it is the connection and interaction with other people that board games can provide while still be entertaining and challenging at the same time.
Yes, we have definitely noticed the increase in traffic today form their followers. We have an ongoing challenge with them to try to get Jeff to watch one of our videos in its entirety. In our conversations back and forth we have made an effort at an 18 second game review video. We will see …. I totally agree with you that the unique interaction that people have while playing games is why this form of entertainment and relaxation is so much better than other forms. Thank you for following them and finding us.
Great video guys!! And I wholeheartedly agree that Camaraderie & Relationships are what puts board gaming on top! That's why a few years ago I decided to convert my hobby of collecting action figures into board gaming. Whereas with action figure collecting, I 'maybe' got to interact with others once or twice a year at conventions, or through comments I would receive from posting pics of my collection online. NOW, I can interact and create really awesome memories with friends and family on a regular basis playing board games. I used to dread the day I would have to give up my action figure collection, but now I get totally excited when I sell an action figure, because it means I can buy a new game!! Yes!! Loving it, and loving your channel, keep it going guys.
Good to hear your story. I am still amazed how much relationship is built in the process of playing board games. Just played a couple games with old and new friends and was reminded how fun it is! Thanks for your kind words.
Loved this video and the great discussion points you covered. Some really great games to illustrate your points and love the back and forth. Looking forward to more of your content!
Thank you! Thanks for watching. We hope to do more videos like this that are more discussion based. We love analyzing things. So, as long as people keep watching we will keep talking.
As long as we don’t have to sit next that hot fireplace and try to look comfortable … I’m in for more :). Every now and then Bodie and I will have a conversation about some game and after 15 minutes I’ll think to myself … I wish that was on video because I’m not sure I’ll remember everything we just talked about. It is fun!!
@@The-Game-Garage The easy back and forth the two of you have, combined with your amazingly positive vibes will keep me coming back for sure. Excited to see what you guys do next.
@@DeadGoldfishProd Haha a fair point! It really made me laugh when you stopped mid-conversation to get the fire going again. I just assumed it was cold in there and the fireplace was the perfect balance - I guess not! haha. Looking forward to more of these great conversations in future videos.
Love what you say about do/be with/relationship/comradery. Recently played Scythe with my 7yo daughter (disclaimer: we had previously played several games of “My little Scythe” with her which does an excellent job of teaching the core concepts of the “parent” game, so it wasn’t all new to her). She didn’t come anywhere close to winning, but she had a great time deploying her mechs (first one to get all four deployed, actually), and I got a kick out of watching her love the experience! Incidentally, I’m curious if you guys have played Scythe/My Little Scythe, and what your thoughts are on it. Potential review?
Thank you! Also, it’s awesome that your sharing the hobby with your daughter! People like you truly understand the value of Board Games. @Sam Brock and I have played Scythe just not My Little Scythe. Maybe we’ll have to check it out.
Hey guys, keep up the great work! I'm so glad you both are sharing your love for the games, but more importantly your love for people and relationships. More men should look to imitate your passion for family and life. I couldn't anything to disagree with about the list. Keep up the good work and ill see you in the garage.
