Dad (Sam) and I (Bodie) discuss a party game we love. Do we recommend it? That's not a simple answer. We would whole heartedly if it weren't for one thing.

Also, his whole series of games in this line are all absolutely beautiful and very well designed 👍🏼

Absolutely love this game! Makes for great highs and lows and seems to always come down to the last move.

Hey Clay, you are correct. It is interesting how different groups play it differently. One thing we did not mention was the importance of information. Some groups play with very little and then some groups use the “see 2 cards” as the way to play the game. Different type of game depending on the way everyone plays it.

Such a great game when it is not odd it’s less of social deduction but plenty of teamwork which it’s still always fun! I bought it and has been so much fun to pull out!

Seems like great fun with a large group. I'm not generally a fan of social deduction, but like that this one seems to have more "game" in it than some of the others you mentioned.

I totally agree. I like that it is an aspect of the game and not the totality of the game.

Great review, I haven't checked out secret hitler yet, but I can appreciate keeping game size smaller for travel. Check out Button Shy games, they have great "Wallet sized" games....

I’ll check that out. I just got back from a trip and I carried 4 games with me and I really wanted to take another one but the box size is what left it out of the suitcase. It is interesting how there are times I want big game, big presence, big box and then other times I just want great game in as tight a package as possible.

I really think you need to pick up a copy of the new version of libertalia when it comes out. Stonemeir games is putting it out soon with their own flair to it. I’ve got the older edition which plays perfectly well and I’m not sure what they’ve changed besides the art but the style of game is right up your alley. Plays best with 5 or 6 and has a similar feel to the little card game Grim but is much easier to get people into as it looks great and is easy to follow.

Just heard of this game. We will keep our eyes open for it. Let us know if you see it come out.

@@The-Game-Garage they just released a teaser video about it announcing when it will be available and where. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x_eYD2kroo4.html

Lol. “Woah, did you stabilize the table?” Haha. I love the shout outs :D Even if they are always apologizes. 😂 RU-vid algorithm hid you guys from me :( Was like… have they put a video out recently? Interestingly, I am selling Avalon, and Dead Last and Secret Hitler is the best secret role games. As for Tortuga, we didn’t play with the Dutch because of player count and had a very boring experience… it felt like, why would we play the game again? Like the end is always the same. Are you saying the end isn’t always the same interactions? (We only played a couple times and it was the same)

At the even player counts its like the hidden role is not a big a deal. Dutch adds just enough intrigue that the end of the game is likely to have some twists and turns. Dead Last and Secret Hitler are so different but both so good. I like Two Rooms and a Boom for another unique hidden role game. Secret Hitler pushes you from the very start and I love that I have an equal chance to win on either team. Interestingly Fake Artist goes to NY is an under the radar secret role that uses drawing. I like it. thanks for your support, Eric!

I love Fake Artist! Played 2 rooms and a boom and from 1 play realized it would always come down to the “rock paper scissors “ decision from the 2 captains… everything else was null and void. I intend to try it again and hopefully be proven wrong.

Have y'all played Salem by Facade? It's very much a spicy hidden role game in the same genre as Secret Hitler/Avalon
@The-Game-Garage
@The-Game-Garage 2 года назад
I know they made the game and I like the mechanic features of the game but for me the theme is one I struggle with. I have heard that Salem is really strong as a game. It is interesting to me how themes can be a make it or break it. For me the witches are a topic I am careful with. I have been tempted to reskin the game to keep the mechanics but change the theme.
@FallenB1ade
@FallenB1ade 2 года назад
@@The-Game-Garage totally fair! I don't think there's anything imminently "witchy" about the game - i.e. so I think it would be pretty to reskin - you could pretty much just print your own set of "tryal" cards, replace "witch" with "mafia", or use playing cards and have royals be the Mafia and assign special cards (aces, jokers to the 1-2) special roles. I think there is one "curse" but you could toss or reskin that without losing the core of the game

That’s helpful … I’ll have to take a look.

@@The-Game-Garage Blood on the Clocktower is Salem with a better theme, better balanced, more strategy, more replayability, and essentially has two expansions already included. It’s better in every possible way. With that said, Tortuga looks awesome.

Is it worth getting if you own Avalon?
@The-Game-Garage
@The-Game-Garage 3 месяца назад
Yes, it is very different than Avalon. The hidden role part of the game is just a small part of the game and not the whole objective. For me Avalon is a big logic argument and the game gives me little cover to hide. Secret Hitler gives me more cover and Who goes there has so much story that sometimes you forget there is a hidden role until you get on the helicopter. Tortuga is played best when the Dutchman plays at 7 and at 9 so it is great fun with bigger counts.
