If we could figure out how to feed ourselves without paying their high prices eventually the prices would be forced to go down. I wish I was up to raising all of my own food. Meat and produce.

I might start breeding dumeril's boas, I'd like to point something out. Price decrease isn't necessarily always a strictly bad thing. A $1000 snake has a very minimal market, however a $200 snake opens up the market for a lot of casual pet people, so while of course price drops suck, they also will make it way easier to sell for animals like dumeril's boas who are frankly really good pets for a lot of people.

@@chaliceflame1314 true but in the end selling 5 offspring pays for the 1 you bought so over time you'll make it back. This happened to me with my banana leopard clown project for my ball pythons, when I got the snakes to start breeding them I paid $5,000 for the pair and banana leopard clowns were going for like $1,800-$2,200 each by the time I was producing them they're like $650 each haha. Still love the combo though they're awesome and over time I'll recoup the 5 grand.

I was one of those people who paid way too much for a black night Leo. She's gorgeous and I love her, but yeah, I should have waited. I was looking on Morph Market at Cresties and the prices 🇨🇦 are pretty high. Went to a local pet store in my small town in central Ontario and found a beautiful caramel/chocolate boy, tail and all 😊 for a lot less. Great video, thanks!

I had no idea leos could reproduce at nine months. I never would've guess it was _that_ young. That's wild. I hope to have a leopard gecko one day. They may be pedestrian af, but they're really freaking cool animals and pets. There's just something amazing about having a pet reptile for 15yrs plus.

I remember when MBK's were no more than common cali kings and corn snakes. $60-80. And they were very common in pet stores. Same with dumerils being like $200.

I’ve never understood the hype around special color morphs, honestly. Like yeah, some color morphs look a little cooler than the standard colored animals. But at the end of the day, I’m buying an animal as a pet, not as a piece of art. Even fish. I get that some people buy fish for the colors, and sometimes I do too. But again, I like animals with interesting personalities more than anything else. That’s why I’m buying a pair of normal mourning geckos, why I keep eastern mosquitofish in my aquarium, and why I really want a normal western hognose snake (or *maybe* a conda, but I’m not that picky).

I remember in 95-99, while I bred Mexican Black Kings selling them for $45-60 was difficult. Everyone wanted Sinaloan Kings n Milks, Pueblan Milks, Albino n B&W cal kings, as well as any flavor corn snake from $20-$100. Only few New World colubrids sold over $150-200+. Albino Nelson's, morph hogs, n few other designer colubrids

The reptile I think is going to come down considerably in 2024 is palmetto corn snakes and I'm excited because it means I'll finally be getting one. They've already dropped from a low end of ~$800 to ~$300 in the three years I've had my eye on them.

Honestly looking at the red monster morph for bearded dragons for the same reason as the leopard geckos. It’s cool coloring but no way in heck am I gonna pay like $2500 for a dragon that’s slightly redder or darker.

Line-bred traits are in the genes but when line breeding to establish the trait you have the disadvantage in that line breeding is inbreeding, so you have to be really careful with it, and also outbreed the line to other animals to prevent the damage of inbreeding.

Morph market currently has Dumeril's boas for around 450-500 on average in the US. The lowest I saw was 325 and I see quite a few for 350.

I remember when I started in the hobby and Pied BPs were being sold for £1500 now they are being sold (by the same shop) for £250 it's just nuts. Boas are another I always wanted a Boa but they were a couple hundred if not more when I originally did but I saw one at an expo for £35 as a baby and it was just absolutely insane! I rehomed a Boa but it mental how much the costs have dropped in some cases

Agressive, hard to breed and often pair bond. While taking 5 years to reach sexual maturity and laying small clutches. You're going to be waiting a long time. Why not just save up and support a good, ethical breeder?

Scaleless corn snakes will be much less expensive in the future- I bet. Just because they have bad health issues (bug eyes, skin) and special care needs(soft substrate). Tons of people are creating rat snake hybrid versions of the scaleless, and the hybrids are enormous in size when you look on Facebook and see the snakes as adults. Plus, its not like everyone actually wants a scaleless- they can look very strange/sad as adults.

so i will clarify something as someone who breeds pure black nights lol. while they sure are going down in price the reason i dont think theyll ever go into the cheap route is because you cant really mass produce them; at least the black black ones. black night is such a fragile polygenetic morph to where if you just breed it nilly willy with other polygenic morphs the black just disappears. getting solid black animals even out of two solid black animals is not always a given, so its just hard to say, especially with how bad their fertility rate is. i see them sticking around for quite the while, theres an increase in demand for dark males at least from what i see

4 x 2 x 2 is the bare minimum, but the bigger, the better! 6 foot is a happy medium, 8 foot is best! It's not practical because its so big, but if you can afford the money and space, why not?

i loved MBKs but during the Kingsnake Ban of them in Europe in 22/23 ( they put them on the list of invasive species).. we cant really breed them anymore if youre only a private person, wich is ridiculous (it should be banned for all or none) .... so i am sure the demand will fall and the prices on them may rise again, but not many people i know will buy them only as a pet.

If your not breeding for morphs, or just wanting a specific mutation for yourself reptiles are very cheap upfront. Housing/Maintaining them is another story. Get the animals you desire but accept the responsibility that comes with them.
