Been searching for "how do you get comfortable around others?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Beyophia Unimaginable Blaster - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is an awesome exclusive product for discovering how to say goodbye to your shyness and anxiety minus the normal expense. Ive heard some super things about it and my co-worker got great results with it.

I recently spent 30 days in Japan. What a great place for street photography. I had to be aware when to shoot as cars would stop on the road. I think they were being so polite that they did not want to ruin my picture. The Japanese people did not mind me taking pictures but it was funny when they did not want to ruin my picture. I tried to tell them that they were all part of it. And I love your video content and tips.

Whats bother me the most when shooting in public, actually my own mind. I keep thinking other people would think I'm weird, I take nonsense picture, I don't use good angle, I'm not a pro, I'm not doing it right, I'm this, I'm that, and THATs exactly on my mind and I I have nothing to proof that! In germany, at least where I live, its impossible to do this kind of photography. People (strangers) already get annoyed if you just talk to them, they are always so defensive and want to be left alone, its like they always assume the worst and have to be prepared no one to hurt them, when all I want to do is take an interesting picture. People here get REALLY mad if you take a picture of them, they will call police and stuff like that. Shame, when I'm in other parts of europe everyone is so open and nice, no one hides behind their privacy mask..

@jasondashney
@jasondashney 4 года назад
@@WhySoLoud I'm Canadian and I really, really, really hate when people take my photo. I want to smash their camera. I find it unbelievably disrespectful. It's to do with general privacy. Would you like it if someone walked into your front door and out the back door? If they are quiet and "respectful" about it and didn't touch anything and say anything to anyone you'd still be like WTF?! For many people that's what it feels like when someone snaps your photo without your permission. It feels like you've been violated. It has zero to do with street crime. It's that different people have different ideas of privacy. I could never live in a small town where everyone knows your business. I'm just a private person in all aspects of life and it sucks when someone else feels differently and they take your photo because they don't give a shit.
@AlexRamosDrTaz
@AlexRamosDrTaz 4 года назад
@@jasondashney I'm sorry you feel that way, I really do. Have you ever at least tried talking to photographers who shoot out in the street? Most of us appreciate it when people interact with us, instead of treating us like criminals. I definitely understand your anxiety as I have some level of it myself. But... I'd feel sad if people in general weren't allowed to document life. That would greatly sadden me.

I went out and did my first vlog style video yesterday, and I was feeling very nervous. My "small town" city is not exactly used to seeing people with cameras, but I just walked on by, didn't make direct eye contact with anyone, and just focused on my camera and dialogue. It definitely felt awkward for a bit, but like Pierre stated in this video, nobody cares! I even ran into another photographer which was interesting, and actually made me way more nervous than any random stranger could have. All I did was remember that he started out just like me, maybe we are the same skill level, who knows, but we all start out as beginners doing things wrong and learning. GET OUT THERE AND DO YOU BABES!

There was a tip I learned somewhere in RU-vid where you can pretend you were shooting something behind your true subject. Another tip was to usually smile when they look at you. But I love your tip #4, which is basically The Golden Rule. 😊 At least you're being true to yourself and considerate for others.

If you've been hired for the event, remember that people there will expect to be photographed, and that you're there to take photos of people! That's a little different that street photography, where people aren't thinking that their photo will be taken. Also, for example, take a candid of a couple, then smile and ask them to pose, everyone wants a good photo of themselves, especially if they're dressed up for an event! Have fun!

I agree with all of the advice in this video. I felt so anxious even just holding my camera thinking people were watching and judging me but then I realised, just like me I don’t care about what other people are doing with their lives so why would they care about me taking photographs. Putting on earphones and setting the mood really helped me when starting out.

this video reminds me of what i used to feel back in the days. taking out my camera in the crowd makes my heart pounding haha. bringing friends helps. but my ultimate solution is, like you said, focus on the goal. i know the photo would be great and it will make me happy. so i just take it.
@GhostUnheard

I started out with "excursions" every Sunday to our CBD to start street photography but I did as you mentioned, "Sneaky" shots. Then it kind of got to me mentally so I stopped taking people's pictures and focused on street objects. It worked a little to become more confident in photography but lacked personality so I gave up and went to landscape photography for a bit. That was okay but wasn't as appealing to me which lead to giving up photography in general. Now I'm starting to get back into it again but am following the same patterns. Watching this video has helped a lot, especially tip number 5. Always when shooting I often think people are judging me, criticizing me or focusing on me, but in reality no one cares or even notices. Thank you for the tips and this weekend I'll definitely look at things differently.

Getting over your own fears and insecurities is one thing. But dealing with other people's reactions is different. When I lived in Japan, you could wander around with SLR and tripod rig, take it to shopping areas, train stations, whatever, no one cared. Here in Sydney, you get stopped by security people the second you pull your camera out. I have a full-frame SLR that I use for studio and landscape work. But I've learned not to even think about carrying it in public. So I have a Fuji XE3 - small, discreet. But take it out near any business - even if you're on public property - and watch the security people scramble to intercept you. Sometimes I do paid work where I need to get a permit. Even with a flouro vest, ID tag around the neck and printed permit in my pocket, I still get stopped by security ALL THE TIME. And let's not even talk about the general public; the physical and verbal abuse, threats, cameras damaged, etc. I enjoy street photography, but it takes a lot more than some meditation and breathing exercises to get geared up for it around here.

Hi Pierre, just subscribed. Fully agree with your respectful and positive approach. To focus on my goal, on the go: Manual White Balance to start, as soon as outside or light change. Then my positive playlist with earbuds. Then inside smile and outside smile: Nonverbal communication is crucial for Street Photography. Hence moving, dancing with my feet & a chosen prime lens for this day…better than any static composition or zoom. The ultimate goal is the decisive moment (HCB), which is a slice of the present, when time & space (movement, life, event,…) seem frozen with the utmost storytelling. Voilà

Thanks for the awesome tips. I live in a kinda small place in Germany. Not so long ago I went out to get some shots! I framed a bus which was actually waiting for the passengers to get in. I took multiple shots and at one point the bus driver got out and started yelling at me. The other day I went out to take some random shots of pedestrians, one guy stepped up to me in a very aggressive fashion and demanded to delete the shots. I swear I kept a good amount of distance while taking the shots. In other words, I was never in the face of these ppl but still got a very intimidating feedback. I just wish I would live in NYC or Japan since everything you do in Germany concerning street photography, is frowned upon. I even thought to quit photography after those incidents, especially when you come back to realize that your captures won’t work. Anyway, please keep up your awesome work, you inspire so many ppl worldwide. All the best to you Pierre 😀

The best advice is definitely the fifth one. Out of my experience nobody really cares. The more crowded the place is the more anonymous is everyone. This really helped me getting used to taking pictures in crowded places. I think the biggest reason why a lot of people have problems with this is that constant fear of getting caught or someone coming up to you telling to stop taking photos. But if your not doing something illegal there is absolute no reason to fear that. But definitely check the countrys law first. In Germany for example you always have to ask for permission if you take pictures and someone can be seen in it.

Hey Pierre, I would be really intrested about "the voice" topic you mentioned we can dig in later. I am dealing with that on every aspect of life but especially shooting in public.

Loved the video and your tips. Really does help alot. I also noticed that you may have a filter on your lens. Can you tell me what filter you are using and do you often use a filter for street photography? Thanks Pierre.

what do you do when after to take photos and someone comes up to you and ask you to delete the photo you took of them, or worse, someone that gets mad? has that ever happened to you?

Great video. Maybe a tip from an introvert to make both yourself and the random subject feel less nervous: if you take photos and people happen to be in the frame and they see you, look at something else nearby, pretend you weren’t shooting for them. Look at the random thing once, twice, focusing intensely, maybe even change angle, even if you know damn well that’s bullshit and you were in fact taking a picture of the person. That way maybe they’ll think you were zooming in and they’re not in the picture and feel easier or like tip number 5 saus, maybe they don’t even care.

Thank you Pierre, aah it's so much easier when you did that on video and has someone else who will back you up tho (or at least have someone else on your side when someone confronts you). I mostly shoot alone here in Bali and it's very annoying about "the voice in my head" and I'm gonna try that 4-second rules and I need to push my self more and maybe having a team when shooting, I love your video!
