Someone else mentioned this as well, but I think the approach had a lot to do with Pierre’s success. He seemed more confident and started the conversation with a compliment where Jerome started by apologizing. No matter what, it still takes a lot of guts to do that. Kudos to both of you and keep those videos coming!

Can’t believe how many people say „yes“. My first guess - if I try this in Germany I get 100 No’s - 50 slaps in my face - and maybe one „yes“. Maybe I try this one day

I notice Lambert usually commits on people's accessories first then explains what he is doing. Example " excuse me that ['item'] looks great on you, I'm doing a challenge etc", chances of him grabbing a photo is highly likely.

Jerome, don't say "Sorry" as an intro. Just ask if you can take their photo with a smile on your face, and laugh in your voice. You will get more Yes's that way, and faster too! Even just miming "I want to take your photo" works as well, in my limited experience. I am an introvert, so do find it hard to ask often, so, sometimes I ask, other times, I mime the ask. It seems to work well. Plus having a smile on my face puts the subject at ease, even though smiling for me, is not a natural state. Take from this what you will, and I hope it helps.

Nice! What I take from this is that the approach you take when asking is what makes the difference, the first guy seems very experienced in doing this and thus had the best approach by complimenting people and being quicker with his words which made him more inviting.. the second although good, was more formal and reserved which is why I think people were more hesitant... also, like someone suggested, I would carry around business cards, it would make you look more professional and serious and not like you are just trying to get photos of people for free (I know you guys go back to these people afterwards but some of them kept on miving), don't mean this in a bad way, I just felt that if someone took a picture of me, I would want the picture and would also be wondering what's going to happen to it or what it would be used for. but really learned a few good tips on how to look more inviting to people. Thank you guys.

Its amazing how he took only one shot (framing) and still managed to take very decent looking portraits. Thats skill and experience right there boys!

One thing which makes these pictures look good is the ambient lighting from the sky . I am from India and we only get this kind of ambient light during the monsoon season

Great video! I think it would be even better if it was a rule to not mention the challenge unless explicitly asked. That would be closer to the situation most photographers face and I also find the interactions much more interesting if the challenge is not the main talking point.

I could have never taken the photos even after keeping so much concentration... You made it look so easy all the photos were beautiful

In the video, I found that praising people for what they wear or anything that distinguishes them gives them a better acceptance of photographing them

"Hey how are you! I really like your *IMPROVISE MODE*" It's a good excuse though, seems to work really well!

i think these challenges are a great way for a shy or quiet person to learn to talk to people while improving their photography.

Human Beings can be such awesome souls

Thank you for inspiring me to challenge myself and ask people if I can take their picture. I find it scary but watching this is a great example of how it’s done. Amazing job guys!

A friendly tip to the other guy, or Shy people in general- Never start with "Sorry" or "Excuse Me". Never say Sorry, you aren't doing anything wrong. And If you aren't doing anything wrong, then why to apologise? I'm an introvert too, and trust me, even I'm learning to reach out to more people. Heck, some of my friends who aren't shy at all still can't make themselves to ask Strangers for pictures. Even if you're being modest, saying those words show a lack of Confidence and Self-preservation, and this won't be good to feel while approaching people. If they approach, then just say "Okay sure, no problem. Have a good day". You gotta learn to talk smooth. I am too. This has worked for me so far. Not everyone is gonna say yes, and it's fine. As long as you keep at it. Note that in some countries, being Courteous back to the person is a part of Societal Conformity, so it is considered Rude to turn down someone. So people might say Yes to a picture, even if they don't really want to. Also also, don't just choose to send people their pictures left and right. You're gonna get exploited and Burned Out. Instead, you can choose whether you want to or not. Or unless the person asks to. That way, you won't have to be stuck at a place and in a sort of "Commitment". If you are confident, give out your business cards. It's a great and harmless way to expand. But remember boundaries. If you're a Portfolio/Fashion Photographer, with your own studio, probably avoid it too much, since your packages would likely be out of the perception of other people. All the best!
