It's only "sustainable" if it fits our needs (comfort, quality, aesthetics and price), otherwise it's wasteful, bc we won't use it. And when we know our style and body type, we avoid making impulse buys. So grateful for your thoughtful tips/reviews. 😍
I believe icky return policies are a great and sustainable way to keep people from buying stuff just to return it. Or worse: to order it, wear it out and then return it. This has become to much of an issue for brands and is a horrible way of abusing shipping and the emissions that are produced by it.
After seeing your blog on DF I investigated the brand and brought some black sling back shoes - expensive but omg sooo comfy! Classic styling that I know I will never ever tire of. So thumbs up to you for introducing the brand x
Although my style is completely different to yours, this does not stop me watching your videos. Your attention to detail and descriptions of things is just fascinating and in a way, a calming watch. I absolutely adore your work and trust your judgement with what you talk about. Thank you for your videos.
And may I also add although my style is different to yours (body shapes etc are very different), you always inspire me and still help picking pieces out for my wardrobe. It just shows your videos are inspirational and “influence” my own style. Xx
I bought a pair of Miista boots and oh my gosh they are incredible. Easily the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned and I cannot recommend them enough. Great quality and great price! Only thing is shipping was a bit expensive when I ordered them...
Nice video Emma & Simon! 👌🏼 I would love to see Emma have a coffeetalk about fashion and sustainability with someone like (for example) the founder of Boyish denim. 😘
🙈 That was the original plan when I met with Jordan but unfortunately it was in the middle of Selfridges and the music was too loud. But I may write a blog post on it all. 👍🏼
For my personal experience with the leather Veja V10’s I never actually had any issues with sizing or even breaking the shoe in. It was miraculous. I don’t know if it’s because I have unusually small feet lol The only thing I’d say I notice is that one of the tongues on my shoes likes to chill off to the side instead of in the middle lol but I love them. They’re comfortable, durable and just all around fricking beautiful! So yes, loved seeing you talk about Veja especially because they’re all about sustainability!! ☺️👍🏻
I can vouch for Jonak, I own a few pairs. They are good quality shoes and very durable, however if you are half a size I suggest that you size up, as they can be a bit tight. I hope this helps.
That Spirit boot pic always comes up as a sponsored ad on Instagram and I drool 🤤😍 but they’re just a bit pricey. The Veja’s are comfy once worn in, I have the V10 but the (Sdurt?) navy style looks amazing! You have such a great collection. By far I’ve heard of via you but the others brands are new to me. Look forward to the unboxing 🙊📦👜
I have a pair of Jonak ankle boots and I absolutely love them. The leather is so smooth, but doesn't scratch easily, the style is classic and they are comfortable (not the most comfortable ever, but they do have a heel, so it doesn't really bother me) I got them on sale last summer and could not wait for fall to arrive to wear them!
I live in Paris, and Jonak is a well-known brand here. I have 2 pair, loafers and a pair of slingbacks. Both are really good quality. Like Veja, they don’t do half sizes, so I would size up. Since it’s the sale period here, I just scooped up a few pairs of sandals. For you, trying out the brand during the sale period might be a more economical way to see if you like them...then you can always re-order confidently when the new season launches! 😁
I can vouch for Jonak! Bought my first pair two years ago in Paris and reordered online a few times since - free delivery to the US makes it way to easy
Loved this and most of the brands mentioned! I'm a big fan of Miista's diffusion line - E8 by Miista. I found that some of the styles take a while to break in - but overall found them great quality in the long run!
I love that all of the brands you mentioned are vanguards for sustainability. some people have complaints that consumerism is a leading cause of environmental degradation. While this is definitely true, I think more pressure should be placed on brands and the fashion industry as a whole to be more transparent and conscious about the materials and means used in production. Buying sustainably is a great first step and is the best thing we could do as consumers to be a catalyst for change!
French girl here: Jonak is great! Most shoes are comfortable, especially their boots. The sizes are true to size, but they don't have half sizes so I'd recommend sizing up, especially for babies and round toe shoes
Great video again!! Thanks, Emma. I'm currently stocking DF and ByFar for some deals, but these LOQ, wow🤩. I bough a pair of Jonac suede booties last winter and I wore them all season long, no blisters, no breaking in, and actually the suede wore pretty well. I'd say they are true to size. I'm a half size but I ordered the full size up cause you know.. winter... thick socks...liners...etc. Anyhow, Jonac has a thumbs up from me.
I love veja so much ! I also own a few pairs however personally for me I think the v10 are more comfortable than the canvas! Haha I honestly think it’s because how I wore them in. The tongue is definitely an issue, I used to let mine slip down to the side so that they didn’t dig in and honestly now the tongue is so soft and bendy so it’s definitely a shoe that softens! And I agree with the sizing I had to send mine back and go up. As always lovely video 💖
I recently bought a pair of Alexander McQueen trainers and the tongue is also irritating at the beginning but if you tie the laces behind the tongue for the first few wears, the adjust 🙂
Oh dear, oh dear, I just visited the Dear Frances website and absolutely adore two of their styles that exactly tick the boxes of two pair of shoes I was looking for ... only the premium price is stopping me from clicking buy 🙈
So detailed - love this Emma! Thanks for sharing, love your style 💙 Btw, all I can say for MIISTA is that my friend has a pair and she’s had it for a couple of years - they last really well and are extremely comfy (she had a leather pair).
you can't beat comfort , i have been a converse all star girl since my teens and you can never have too many pairs . sadly i can't wear heels , though you shoes look so nice x
Rachael Jones I only have one pair of Converse that I’ve had for years but I have never found them that comfortable🤷🏻♀️ I love sneakers but I only reach for my Converse when I’m going somewhere where my shoes will get dirty🙈😂 It’s too bad because Converse are very cool-looking I think🤦🏻♀️
@@dicte7170 im guilty to say iv'e got 5 prs as i wear them all year round including a insulated pr for winter . besides my Toms are only what i can wear on my feet . heels make them hurt
You should try the German brand „Aeyde“. I think you‘d love the style. They are very well made (in Italy). I own four pairs and love all of them very much ☺️
You're always on point with forecasting which styles will stay current and which will remain classics- what are your thoughts on the Golden Goose trainers? I currently live in the states and see them often, I have been tempted to invest but - has that brand seen it's way out or are they here for the long haul?
I used to own a pair but sold them as I couldn't get a size that fit me properly. But if you like them I do feel they are going to be around for the long haul 👍🏼
I am french, Jonak is very well known brand here. I don't really recommend it, just because of the quality, it's not worth the price in my opinion. But the styles are nice.
I love this type of video! I am trying to invest in fewer but better quality shoes these days so this was really informative. Some brands here I have wanted to try for a while and now I have a few new ones to check out as well!
So in love with By Far and Dear Frances myself. 🥰✨ Please share with us your bag purchases from By Far too, Emma! Oh, and squealed at the mention of the unboxing. Can’t wait.
Love vids about comfortable, stylish and sustainable shoes, thanks Emma. It’s interesting that Spain has been renowned for their high-quality leather goods since the Middle Ages- now that’s skilled experience! Italian shoes just run too darn narrow for me.
Have you tried the Gucci espadrilles? Pricey for sure but the red and green espadrilles are so cool - and would complement your wardrobe.. Have some nice-looking flat espadrilles as well. Don’t know if as comfortable as loafers - wouldn’t that be nice?
I've been wanting to try some Veja trainers ever since you started talking about them so I had a search around and found them on Madewell and they did a few collab pairs which I'm obsessed with so I ordered both of those and another pair of the velcros that were on sale so I really hope they all fit, I had to order size 41 since they either didn't make them or sell them in a 42 at Madewell and my size varies between a 41-42 depending on the style and brand. I know that sounds crazy to buy three pairs but I have really bad feet and ankles and can pretty much only wear sneakers or boots, and Birkenstocks are the only type of sandals I can wear, so I'm okay with investing in a few pairs and love supporting a sustainable brand. I wear my sneakers to death so I know I'll have them for a long time (as long as they fit lol)!
I randomly picked up a pair of miista sandals ( why would anyone donate them) at a second hand shop a few years back, they are still fabulous, I had no idea who they were at the time just got them bc they were just cool. Still wear them, they were made really well and comfortable. Xoxo
I love the look of those Dear Frances Tye Sandals. They look so comfortable and stylish. I'm not buying this year and they're probably out of my price range anyway. Also like the Doc-style boots. I'd like at some point to buy some of the Veja trainers, they all look fab. Interesting and informative video, as always, Emma.
Hi Emma, I tired both Miista and Jonak. I have MIISTA PRIYANKA from about 18 months ago. They are comfy and true to size. From Jonak I got Derbie with studs last year in Paris. They are comfy once broken into and also true to size. I found both brands to be of excellent quality and will definitely repurchase. I have to try Dear Frances, it is haunting me on Instagram lately lol
Thanks for the information! I love the look of the Dear Frances but just haven’t been able to bring myself to purchase them yet. I will be checking into the LOQ especially since they are based in the states.
Veja has been on my radar for a while 😩😍 I went to Europe 2 wks ago and kept seeing them. I think it’s a sign that I need to jump the gun and get them lol
love all the brands that youve mentioned. The by far tanya sandals in nude are my most beloved pair of shoes that i own. always get compliments when i wear them. Now lets talk about Miista. I have two pairs of shoes that i bought because i love the design. But why are they so uncomfortable? The carlota boots and the Canar check heels are not only uncomfortable but also unstable. Please let me know if you have experienced the same issue...
I love jonak their shoes are stylish and well made but a little beat expensive I have one pair for 8 years now I can’t get rid of it, I don’t know if it’s a sustainable brand but because they shoes are good quality and expensive it kind of force me to sustainability and now that I’m aware of sustainability I fully enjoy the only jonak pair I have 😊
SHOES! I love shoes too much my brother calls me a “centipede” because I have way too many pairs. Veja’s been on my radar for so long and finally I’ve decided to get a pair! I also own a pair of Luna sandals from Dear Frances, and they are very very comfortable! Great video, Emma! And now I‘m so excited for the Tuesday vlog! Can’t wait to see what you got!
Thank you for introducing me to Flattered, I’m definitely in need of a new pair of black Chelsea boots for fall and Flattered’s look perfect! Another sustainable shoe brand that I loveee is Brother Vellies, it’s a black woman owned brand that utilizes materials found in the regions where they are made in South Africa and Kenya. They’re also handmade by artisans in those countries as well. Definitely a higher price tag but I wear my tie slip ons all the time and with pride!
I loved the shoes. I have some resemblances and I'm going to use them. I have many clothes, shoes and accessories and always some of them come back to be fashionable. Best wishes from Brazil
I have the Jessie Bush flattered sandals, which I love!! So comfy! Butttt I wore them on holiday and nicked the leather on the heel quite badly, any tips on what I could do to save them? 🥴
Another great video Emma! Thank you for putting Dear Frances in my radar? Would you say the spirits boots are true to size? Ps I’m so there with you about Veja (completely converted) ❤️
Hey Emma! Lovely recommendations! Have you tried sneakers from Novesta? I've been sticking to my 7th pair of Supergas but am looking to get an alternative that's more friendly to my wallet! Would love another video on cheaper ranges of comfortable shoes :)
Have yo ever tried Massimo Dutti? Their shoes are so beautiful and elegant and when I am shopping there I always surprise myself thinking: "This is so Emma Hill" :D. Thanks for the video!
I have two pairs of Jonak or well, used to have. One pair I killed within 3 years by wearing them all summer (but only summer) and had to trash them. The other is a more occasional pair so it is still in a pretty good condition but they were about 70 euros and non leather, which is a bit too high. OveralI, I am not sure I would recommend.
I have been conflicted. I saw some boots on dear frances and fell in love. I'm not a big heeled shoe person and am not sure whether I should get them. It's quite an investment especially since I'm a college student but I've seen similar on nastygal but don't know if I'd feel comfortable buying from that brand.
Hello Emma! Regarding Jonak shoes, it's a very well known brand for us in France. I have a pair of boots and they are very comfortable and of good quality. I would say they are true to size but I'm not a half size. However, on their website, they always specifie how size the model in the description. Hope this will help you! :)
Hi Emma ! Jonak here in France is everywhere... the quality is not very high, stylish maybe, but be sure if you like as much shoes as me that Jonak is 😉 a no no.... Thanks for your videos.
I don't think I have a specific video on them but both Simon and I have a pair and love them. Simon wears he's all the time if we are away walking around a city and has no issues, and neither of us had any issues with breaking in - comfy from first wear. 👍🏼
It depends on your budget - check out some of my shoe collection videos as you may see some you like there. But if budget allows it I would say the Hermes Oran slides as they are a dream once they break in 👍🏼
Hey Emma hope you’re well! You’ve really made me want those dear frances tye side slides. What size did you get in them? I am pretty sure we are the same size in shoes! X
Hey Emma, do you recommend any good quality espadrilles? I feel like I might have left it too late this season but am still hoping there are some flat, comfy ones available that don’t make my feet look huge! I loved all of your Paris pics, im going in August and so excited. You made trainers lol effortlessly chic as always! Do you do anything to edit the light in your IG photos? Xx
Hi I discuss a couple in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CUsETufmfhw.html 👍🏼 Otherwise I also cover some in my shoe collection video from last summer. Hope that helps. I also covered how I edit my pics in a vlog way back when I first started if you want to take a look. ❤️
Hi Emma! I would like to ask you regarding your DF tye slides. Just purchased them but disappointed that they make lound "sticky" noises when walking (when the foot and leather insole "separate")... Did you also have this problem and if so, did it go away after breaking them in?? I really really love them but having a hard time looking past the sticky noises..
I have purchased a few shoes from Jonak over the years, precisely at La Redoute, because they were cheap (sent the majority back). Well, they are cheap, not very comfortable, on the smaller side, and the finish is not great 😐 I now have stopped buying many cheap shoes 😁 and go for the quality of one great pair (BTW very tempted by Dear Frances...). Aah the wisdom of age 👵🏻😘
Hi Emma thanks for sharing. Love your choices. At the moment my feet are swollen from pregnancy and don’t look to attractive. But you give me something to look forward to. Have a lovely Sunday 💕
There is a work wear video from late last year that may be useful if you are new to the channel ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mihimSU-pVY.html but I'm not really a suit person. 👍🏼
Jonak is a French shoe, quite stylish, reasonably priced often made in Europe, quite comfy but not amazing Quality( fall to pieces, come unstuck, insoles get heavily stained, not always lined) and sizes are very odd, I am a 40 and sometimes even the 41 is too small!
