I would add #6: Buy high quality basics for your every day life and not only for special occasions. I used to have so many suits, fashion week couture and party outfits in my wardrobe. But when did I go to these events? Rarely ever. When I had to dress for university, my job, errands I had nothing. So really be careful when it comes to the few things you really actually wear on a day to day basis and make these super luxe and special. 👌🏻
Yes! One of my biggest fashion revelations for me has been to invest in my actual life, not my bizarre fantasy life. There's been a psychological benefit to this too, not just financial. I'm learning to make the everyday something to celebrate and enjoy, as opposed to just constantly waiting for some special 'event'.
I think the quality over quantity recommendation applies to so many things in life. You keep mentioning that your platform is quite small, and while I wish your channel to grow massively and have all the success you deserve, people who watch you are so lovely! Good job
All the mistakes I made when shopping taught me a lot about what I am attracted to and what I tire of quickly, and eventually I have became more confident about what I like and don’t like. My image is probably constantly evolving, sometimes in big and obvious ways and in smaller and subtle ways. I think I am always making fine tunings to my style.

I agree! I have finally realized that (up until fairly recently) I bought what I loved even if I didn’t have the lifestyle to support it. I tend to lean toward sartorial drama (brocades, embroidery, sequins, turbans and lots of vintage!) and would buy for a lifestyle I wished I had instead of the one I have. Although I still do have a lot of those items in my closet, I’ve stopped buying them. In my “old age” I’ve finally realized that just because I LOVE something doesn’t mean I need to have it, ESPECIALLY if it’s something that doesn’t make sense for my current lifestyle. 🥰🥰

Great roundup of pointers! I've made the mistake of not considering what colors or tones look best on me. I've impulsively bought shirts/sweaters because I love the color on the hanger, but then I won't reach for it when getting ready or I'll switch into something else because I won't quite like it on me at home. Then I'll realize that it just was never my best/most flattering color.
I'm trying this year to apply the ideas of collecting basics, but to vintage/preloved clothing. Vintage levis, classic jeans. Never gonna go out of style. Vintage camel coat, same thing. Your videos have guided me through my entire process! It helps me stay focused on what I NEED to buy and not what I WANT to buy. Cuz lord knows I want to buy lots!
Omg you couldn’t have posted this at a more perfect time. I’m in the middle of moving right now which lead me to a HUGE closet purge. And I am SOOOOO guilty of #2. Sale items are my kryptonite. I am seriously considering donating almost everything in my closet and starting fresh. My wardrobe barely reflects my personal style and so many of my clothes don’t make me very happy when I wear them... a lot of them were cheap and easy but aren’t actually flattering or very nice. All lessons I’ve personally learnt over the years but one that I struggle with is buying the right size as I always say “if I just lose a couple of kgs the smaller size will fit better” but that never happens and then I’m left with a wardrobe of clothes that don’t actually fit properly 😩 Buy for the size you are now is my tip 🤷🏼♀️
I agree with buying high quality and timeless pieces. Hence I’m not buying any of the following: - Dior shopping bag (honestly I think Dior is taking a piss with that one, but hey, it’s super popular so who am I to criticise??) - Designer T-shirts with massive logos - Designer belts with massive logos - Anything Jadior (especially the slingback style with the plastic band) - Designer chunky trainers that are hovering 700-900£ I have a very limited budget for designer stuff and any of the above are not timeless.
Agree with everything you said, even if I struggle to stick to the principles! I've got some gorgeous pieces in my wardrobe, great fabrics & quality, however they're all work or event items and I've discovered over the last couple of months that for just hanging around the house I only have junk clothes. I guess I felt like they don't matter because who's going to see them? But now I feel pretty horrible wearing them and realise 'home' clothes ARE just as important, especially now. 💖

We should also be mindful of the maintenance for it's not practical to hand wash everything or dry clean everything, and not everything can go into the washing machine, even on gentle cycle. There's no point of buying expensive garment if you can't wash it due to your washing machine can't wash it, you can't find the time to wash it by hand, you can't afford to get it dry clean.
I was about to buy espadrille wedge at 15% off because it was half cheaper than the cute ballet heels (like ballet flat with heels if that make sense) that I'm willing to have ! I will add both in my wishlist and see in a couple of time which one to go for :)
I agree with all five points, number two and five in particular, which can also apply beyond objects and into our personal relationships. I never settle for anything other than what I actually want and desire, including having a small capsule wardrobe that I actually enjoy wearing and will last longer.

I loved this video, super informative and interesting. I am definitely guilty of some of those mistakes myself! I find it difficult sometimes to recognise good quality and I also agree with you that a higher price tag does not necessarily mean a higher quality item. I would love to see a video on either how to tell if different items are high quality (like jeans, sweaters, dresses for example) or your favorite go-to brands for higher quality items.

I have a problem with thrifting: I find sometimes beautiful pieces at a very low price and they fit me! I find it difficult to resist a bargain. However when I am home I realise that they are not really fitting my style or my life style and/or the color does not flatter me. I am still falling in that trap and I am using this time of staying home to cure myself from this habit (addiction?) of going to thrift stores or second hand boutiques....

I only bought one Chanel bag from preloved and don’t really need another. That Chanel 19 is my only temptation which if I did get I’d try oreloved.

Eine Freundin und ich waren am Freitag unterwegs, um eventuell schneller zu sein als die Preiserhöhung bei Chanel. Die hatten aber bereits Taschen mit den neuen Preisen gekennzeichnet und so sind wir schließlich bei Dior gelandet. Die Qualitätsunterschiede und was man bei Dior für sein Geld bekommt vs. bei Chanel waren meiner Meinung nach gravierend. Und da ich leider nicht wahnsinnig vermögend bin, hat Chanel mich wohl endgültig rausgepreist. Deine Tipps sind sehr gut. Ich war früher passionierte Sale-Shopperin, aber nun versuche ich, gezielt Sachen zu kaufen. Alles, was fast fashion ist, kommt erstmal auf die Wunschliste. Wenn ich es nach 20mal angucken immer noch will und es noch erhältlich ist, dann kaufe ich es eventuell. Sales schaue ich mir nur noch im high end Bereich an. Da ist die Hemmschwelle für Spontankäufe doch zu groß für mich und umso mehr freue ich mich über ein Schnäppchen. Meine Acne Jeans, die ich zum halben Preis erstanden habe, wird mich sicher länger begleiten als so manche Lee Jeans in meinem Schrank. Ich gehe auf die 30 zu und hoffe, mir in den nächsten Jahren eine schlichte, aber hochwertige Garderobe aufbauen zu können, die mich lange begleitet!! Habe schon einige Labels gebookmarked, die du in deinen Videos erwähnt hast! Mich würde interessieren, ob die massive Chanel Preiserhöhung deine Sicht auf die Marke nochmal verändert hat, gerade z.B. verglichen mit Dior. Du hast das schon in einigen Videos erwähnt, aber die aktuelle Preisanpassung ist ja so massiv, dass man bei Dior bald 2 Taschen für denselben Preis bekommt. LG!
Hallo meine liebe, ich gebe dir was die Qualität angeht absolut recht! Ich musste das gestern bei Dior auch wieder feststellen. Die Verarbeitung und die Finesse sind bei Dior inzwischen so viel besser! Meiner Meinung nach sind die Preiserhöhungen bei Chanel gerade zu dieser Zeit absolut geschmacklos.

Kristina Brenning nein, uns wurde gesagt, dass keine classic flaps mehr vorrätig seien. wir haben eine rectangular mini gezeigt bekommen, die 3500€ gekostet hat und damit 450€ mehr. Auf pursebop gibt es Bilder aus Schweden, die square mini scheint ab sofort genauso viel zu kosten wie die rectangular mini. Im purseforum hatte jemand ein Bild gepostet von einer reissue, die 900€ gestiegen ist auf 6050€. Also nichts offizielles, da ich auch keine Chanel Kundin bin, aber das war so das was ich bis jetzt zusammentragen konnte. Ist mMn so nicht mehr haltbar.
I bought my first and only piece from Vince this last winter, a gorgeous cashmere cardigan. After depilling it with a sweater stone it was completely ruined. It just kept pilling worse and ended up looking so shaggy I got rid of it, I don't think I will ever wear cashmere again, or use a sweater stone. Mohair or merino only for me. Really hard lesson to learn.

Excellent advice . I always look at the fabric content of items but was recently still caught out by designer jumper that was cotton & cashmere. I wore it twice, washed it by hand & the pilling on it was awful. It as pro dominantly cream with navy stripe on the arm, but the navy piling was everywhere on the jumper. Tried to wash it again but Literally had to throw it away as it was so bad. Was in two minds when I bought it, should have trusted my instincts to stick to one colour. Lesson learnt. Less is always more xx
