I understand how u feel. Ive been questioning my gender for quite some time now and the thought kept coming back that I might be either trans or non binary, but I didn't feel completely comfortable with identifying as a boy. Ive toyed with the idea and after learning more about demigirls, it's really helped me a lot. Im glad that ive found a gender identity that feels right and now im feeling better abt myself and I feel more comfortable.

At 46 this is an amazing age to find a named gender term that super matches me. Finding out there's a word for my inner self's gender, "Demiwoman" (since I am no longer a girl), really actually helps me to be more comfortable with both my woman-ness and my NB-ness. I kinda wasn't expecting that, like finding out I'm a demi-woman helps me more lovingly accept my woman self. And my shiny egg-emerging NB self. Overall I just feel more peace having found this term and switching to using two sets of pronouns (she/her, they/them.)

Thank you for this video! I’m wondering how we can tell the difference between feeling uncomfortable with gender expectations because they are misogynistic/sexist vs being a demigirl. This is something I’ve been wrestling with for like a year lol
@dreambelievehopelove2946
@dreambelievehopelove2946 9 месяцев назад
Same! That’s why I’ve been questioning if I’m non-binary, agender, a demigirl, etc. I think most people nowadays (hopefully) recognize that gender expectations are misogynistic, but those of us that feel like those expectations keep us from reaching our true potential might be demigirls/some form of nonbinary. For me, I feel like the expectations are stupid for all genders (why should someone be expected to/have to do this based on their gender?). If demigirl doesn’t resonate with you, you can consider the gender nonconforming label. It can be applied to cis or nonbinary people. I might be a gender nonconforming girl or a gnc demigirl. The difference is subtle, but I think there is a difference. I’m currently leaning more towards the second option, but I’m still in the questioning stage. I don’t want to be defined by being a girl/woman so I think demigirl feels more comfortable, but who knows. Anyways, I hope that helped or at least made you feel less alone! ❤️❤️

I think I might be a Demigirl cause I don’t feel cis but I am not fully comfortable with the trans label just yet. I know that for many nonbinary people their journey started as „Demi“ and so I don’t know if I will stay with this label but for right now it feels kinda right because it’s not cis but also not fully enby. The only thing I know at this point is that I am not a man and he/him would make me uncomfortable… so I guess I will just journey on (btw. I am she/they at the moment) XD
@shironeko1611
@shironeko1611 Год назад
Omg, same. I don’t feel like I’m fully a woman but idk if I’m nonbinary either, for now I’m using she/they pronouns mostly because my mother language is very gendered and I have to choose if I refer to myself as a woman or a man 🥲 Started identifying as a demigirl but I currently don’t feel very feminine or comfy in feminine clothes and I’m closer to being nonbinary. And the idea of someone looking at me and thinking “Are they a boy or a girl?” low key makes me feel euphoric so maybe I’ll start identifying as nonbinary
@charlottejohnson5173
@charlottejohnson5173 Год назад
About a year ago, I realised that I was a demigirl, though I find some aspects of my gender pretty complex so if people really push me for an explanation I generally just settle for "not male" 😆 With regard to the pronouns thing, I find that neither she/her nor they/them fully 'define' me and I don't have a strong preference one way or the other (it can get a little tiring when I only hear 1 set being used over a long period of time though)
@516tigergirl
@516tigergirl Год назад
Im still questioning my gender but demigirl is the closest I felt that fits me. I still use she/her pronouns but I'm going back and forth if I should add they/them for the people I trust (which isn't a lot). Im just not feminie. I don't like makeup and styling my hair (actually my hair is in a pixie cut for little over a year and I love it. It's so much easier to matain with thivck curly hair). I don't like wearing dresses or fasion shoes. I do like looking at dresses and I imagine myself wearing one but in reality dress feel uncomfortable for me. If I could I perfer not to wear a bra but I can't. Instead I compromise with wireless bras. I want to die everytime I'm on period. I alwayss think its unfair that you dont get choose to get your period or not like choosing to having children or not (which I do not want children. Kids make me nervous). Last but not least, I despise shaving (my legs and private part mostly). If I could i would not shave at all but my parents guilts me to do it every summer. I hate the feel of my shaved/buzzed legs and ichyness of my private part. Its also so time consuming to do since I don't shaved often. With all of that, there are days I like being a girl but there a days I don’t want to be girl (mostly when I’m my period). I also know I’m not a boy either or fully non binary. So right now my label is demigirl but to myself because I live with my parents and they don’t get the gender spectrum. If there is another term for me though, I would like to know.
@beckheorshepls5397
@beckheorshepls5397 Год назад
In my experience my euphoria tends to fluctuate in the flavor of gender. Sometimes I'll feel euphoric shaving my legs because it feels feminine and then on other days it'll feel euphoric and neutral. Or sometimes I'll feel xenine and feminine euphoria in certain clothes. Sometimes I'll want to dress nonbinary and end up in a skirt and shirt became thats what makrs me feel the nonbinary euphoria that day 😅

@raissaolvv

So... yes to all the signs, but regarding the first one, no if this feeling of not belonging to feminine stereotypes is because I'm maybe a demigirl or because I'm a black girl. black girls do not feel like they fit into the imposed standards of femininity, as they were constructed from white women. So, I always felt disconnected in that sense, where I wanted to strive to be feminine, but I never identified myself in that aspect, because I was never seen as a delicate girl, simply because I was black. anyway, maybe...

Thank you so much for this video! I‘m definitely a demigirl but I hate the term. Calling myself as a grown woman „girl“ goes against any sense of my identity, especially since women are often called girls as a way of patronizing them. Also a reason why I consider myself a „demigirl“ is that I‘m not girly at all in a pink-sparkly-immature way which is directly associated with the term girl, but not the term woman. That‘s why the term doesn‘t give me any euphoria and is rather an ick, while I‘m definitely the definition of it. Does anyone else think it‘s weird how we call adults with this gender identity girl/boy? For kids I totally understand it and I know the term demiwoman exists but it’s hardly ever used.

Yay!! So happy for this video. Thank you! I’m a demigirl and I don’t hear my gender talked about a lot. I especially relate to signs 1 and 5. I’m afab but have felt a disconnect from “womanhood” and femininity for a long time. I’ve also felt dysphoric about my chest and long hair and felt euphoric tucking my hair in a beanie to make it appear short. I’ve often thought being non-binary would be really cool, but the label never quite felt right. I was excited when I found out about the term demigirl. (I also like the label “genderqueer” for me.) I still just use she/her pronouns though, although they/them pronouns are lovely, and I don’t think I’d mind if people used them for me. I still present as feminine, though I would really like to present more androgynous. I’m very fond of loose, comfy hoodies.

the last one got me. i’m a masc lesbian who identified as nonbinary for a while and used he/him pronouns. it turned out that something didn’t feel right. i thought i was enby because overall i don’t really care about the concept of gender, i do get dysphoric and being called a woman sometimes makes me uncomfortable. but then again i still feel some type of connection with womenhood and i want to embrace that part of myself as well as the nonbinary one. so the moment i found out what demigirl means it all clicked and i felt just… relieved. that there’s a label out there that really fits me. thank you for this video 💜

I'm an older millennial, and back in my 'day' (So to speak) we really didn't discuss gender identity at all. I found out about asexuality by accident in high school, and back then barely anyone knew what asexuality was. Even in the general LGBT community. (Back then there was no Q) Like I said, unlike Z, it wasn't discussed nearly as much. But the truth is, I think I always struggled with gender. I just never liked gender expectations. I have long hair, but I don't care for fashion or makeup at all. I never liked the idea that I had to be the wife of a man or a mother. I am not comfortable in any traditional female gender role. And I also tend to have a pretty set of interests that are coded both masculine or feminine. I'm glad for this video. I wish we had discussions like this when I was younger. The younger generation of queerfolk are blessed with having this amount of knowledge freely.

thank you for this video. i am someone who is very unsure of themselves and i don't feel like i can trust my mind usually. i grew up in a conservative christian household that is/was very unaccepting, so i never really explored this stuff until i was 17+. i am pansexual and i have been using she/they pronouns for a while now but never really looked deeper into it. i just recently realized i wanted people to use they/them for me more often and it made me feel warm and happy when people did use those pronouns. i also noticed when i look in the mirror and look/feel more androgenous, i enjoy it, it makes me feel good. but not androgenous in a masculine way, only in a non feminine way. it's nice not feeling like i always have to be feminine and dolled up to feel good about myself. i am still getting used to that feeling. i love presenting femininely though and i think that is what has me stuck. watching this video i still felt unsure until i got to number 5. i burst out crying and i think it is sinking in that this is something i identify with. i mean i am crying writing this. i think i am going to sit with this and tell my close friends/partner soon. thank you for this video and thank you if you read this

While developing my own identity after moving out and coming to terms with being a lesbian, I felt like there was something off. I've always hated the expectations that came with being a girl, definitely as a kid, being forced to like girly things, such as barbies (like the movies tho), dolls in general, my little ponies, horseback riding, dresses, ballet. I liked dinosaurs, pokemon, bakugan, videogames, basketball, playing the guitar and clothing wise I prefered just jeans with a shirt and leather jacket and sneakers. As a teenager (14, came out at 16 and am now 23) I found out that I liked women and wrote me hating those things off as being a stereotypical lesbian. But I hated the expectations still, I wanted to express myself the way I wanted to, I wanted to wear suit and tie, not dresses. I've always felt like a woman, but not a 100%, I always thought it was either cisman, transman, ciswoman, transwoman, non-binary in a sense of being both genders like 50% or agender. So I never realized demigirl was a thing until now. I've come to realize that I probably am a demigirl.

This vibed with me SO much in an analogous way as several years back I came across the term demiguy/demiboy and felt an affinity to it. This year I finally came out as non binary, and I could find a lot of similarities with my lived experiences (but from a demiguy perspective)

Thanks for reaffirming hehe I've known I was a demigirl for like two years. I discovered the term and it all instantly clicked in my mind. It was all explained. Whenever I hear someone talking about women I am like "what you saying about me??" and it is _exactly_ the same when I hear about non binary people. I was so relieved to know this was a thing. My external world didn't really change, since I am comfortable with female pronouns (neutral pronouns don't really make gramatical sense in my language anyways). Most people think of me as a woman, and that's ok, but it's great being able to express my full self with people I trust, and specially with myself. For anyone who doesn't get this or think it's stupid: *the term isn't made for you,* it shouldn't affect you. It is for people whose life is a little more brighter when they finally figure out their gender. Be happy for them and move on.

I'm autistic and cant really perceive gender properly, and I like dressing hyper feminine, does that mean I cant use the more gender neutral parts? I have no want to dress more androgynously but my lack of perception of gender makes me wonder if this may fit.

At a few days short of my 57th birthday, I have decided that Demigirl is closest to my identity. I like some aspects of womanhood and sometimes I can pretty much totally feel it. Other days, I feel more - I guess - neutral or just gender doesn't really figure, or I can feel kinda masculine. I wear my hair long (it curls at the end, and short hair makes my head look small), and there are times I would like to wear a dress or a skirt and the whole nine yards, but most of the time I dress more androgynous - being more comfortable in T-shirts and sweatpants or other casual pants - and don't really like to wear makeup (I wind up rubbing it off, anyways) or jewelry outside of my wedding ring. I don't get walking in high heels or bikini waxing or eating a small salad when you really want fries - that whole "beauty is pain" thing. I'm not really into romances (although I enjoy a good lovey-dovey scene like any other woman), preferring action most of the time, but if I was a character in a romance novel, I'd want to be the guy cuz they're more fun-loving and casual whereas the girl is totally uptight. I remember how proud I felt in high school when a couple of guys, when they heard me tell the teacher on duty that I wanted to go in and work out with the free weights instead of playing in team sports, said "She can do it, she's a stud!" And I felt so pleased, like "Yeah, I *am* a stud!!" And yet, I sorta wish I could be June Cleaver from "Leave It to Beaver", especially being married. Although I love flowers, pastels, and smooth jazz and play flute and harp, I also love NASCAR, monster trucks, rock music, and action scenes. That's, I guess, my masculine or non-binary side. Some days, I would want to be a boho hippie chick like Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac (love her!!!) and other days I would wear a guy's T-shirt cuz I like their graphics and they're more roomy, and my favorite jacket (which I actually got from a Halloween costume store) was a bomber jacket. I see myself as a "60-70% feminine and the rest more neutral or even kinda masculine" demigirl who is comfortable with she/her pronouns, but wouldn't mind they/them if someone used them. (I also identify as graysexual and sorta bi, but that's another post!)

I’ve been using the label genderqueer but I’m starting to question if I’m a demigirl. I like being called stuff like handsome, having he/him pronouns being used on me, and dressing masculine, but I don’t know if it’s because being perceived as masculine is an ego boost for me because all my life I’ve hated womanhood and the societal expectations that comes with being a woman, or if I genuinely want to identify as a man(which, thinking about it, I kinda don’t). I don’t know if I actually want to be a boy or if I want to be a boy just to not have those problems. I have absolutely loved being perceived as androgynous, but I don’t fully identify as being nonbinary. I do think being a woman is a strong part of my identity, whether I like it or not. So maybe I’m a demigirl that uses any and all pronouns and likes dressing masculine?

My partner, and best fiends are however accepting. I have a mixed feeling about it, bc many poeple are so horribly transphobe. :(

The past few months I’ve realized I’ve slipped between they/them and she/her. I have heard of Demi girl before but never actually considered myself as one since I didn’t know much about the term back then. I’ve used she/they for a while, if people don’t know I’m a girl they could call me they/them. But now I am starting to think it’s more than just”if you don’t know my pronouns”. I will do deep research and learn more about the term and see if it fits me well. Thanks for posting this 😁

Late reply but the difference is that demigirls have a weak attachment to the woman or girl label. Whereas gender nonconforming women have a much stronger attachment to womanhood without wanting to meet gendered expectations. Separating yourself from gendered stereotypes can indicate demigirl/nonbinary, but that's not always the case. There are women that hate wearing dresses, and there are nonbinary people that love wearing dresses.

So I am a Cis hetero man and I am trying to wrap my head around this term because my oldest daughter just came out as a lesbian demigirl. I gotta say I just don't get it. Our family is full of gay and Trans people and we are totally supportive but my daughter is by far the most feminine person in the family. There is a disconnect for me that she can do EVERY stereotypical teenage girl thing (clothes, hair, makeup, music etc.) but says she is SOMETIMES non binary. I do not mean any of this in a disrespectful way but if anyone could help shed some light on this I would appreciate it. P.S. I am afraid to bring this directly to her because she is at a very vulnerable age and I don't want to come across as unsupportive

Hi there! First off, thank you for being an ally and supporting your kids! I wish all parents were that amazing! Second, being a demigirl can look different for everyone. I’m currently questioning if I’m a demigirl or a gender nonconforming girl since I think gender stereotypes are unnecessary. For me, I feel like I connect with some parts of being feminine (dressing up, wearing makeup, etc.), but not all the time or on a consistent basis. The same goes with being nonbinary. Sometimes I feel like I don’t “fit” as a girl/woman, but I don’t “fit” as nonbinary either since I like some aspects of being feminine. If it helps, the demigirl label is under the nonbinary umbrella so it makes sense for someone to be both nonbinary and a demigirl since one falls under the other. Some people use the more specific label (demigirl) while others use both. It’s up to each person to decide what they feel fits them best. I hope that helps! Feel free to ask more questions and keep being awesome! ☺️

I think I'm a demi-girl, but it's different because I'd still use she/her and I'm still a girl, it's only that my moods change quickly and I act like other genders. Like some times I'll dress all fancy, then I'll dress in hoodies, then a bit emo, exc. But I also feel uncomfortable being called a girly girl. Could this be a sign that I'm demi-girl ?

I may be a demigirl and the sign that pushed me into further research is that i thought i was agender, but i figured out when i liked a girl it was gay and when i liked a guy it wasnt so gay, just a little. And i was more comfortable with calling myself a girl than a boy. I still may be wrong about it, but for now i feel like a demigirl
