Here are five simple to use game trailer templates! Especially for a first time game trailer maker, these are good ways to start your trailer's structure. Link to blog post www.derek-lieu.com/blog/2020/...
The tl;dr:
1. Tell, Show, Repeat
Use a title card or narration to describe a thing in the game, then show a few clips of that thing.
2. Music Video Montage
Take fun gameplay footage and cut it to the beat of the music like a music video.
3. Chronological Order
If your game is paced in a way where challenges increasingly escalate, why not just show them in chronological order? (Minus the boring bits)
4. Just Explain the Game
If your game uses a lot of abstract symbols or is otherwise very hard to decipher from just looking at it, it might be worth explaining with voiceover.
5. In a World...
Explain in this order:
- What the world or premise are
- Who is the character in the world
- What the problem is
- What they're gonna do to confront the problem

ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Derek Lieu and I'm a game trailer editor! I got my start in the movie trailer industry as an assistant editor at a house which produced trailers for: The Matrix Trilogy, Spider-Man, Pirates of the Caribbean and many more.
Over many years I worked as an editor and started making fan trailers for games, until eventually I got jobs at game trailer houses in Los Angeles where I worked on games like Mortal Kombat X, Shadow of Mordor and lots of LEGO games. Independently I've helped make trailers for games like: Half-Life: Alyx, Firewatch, Dead Cells, Subnautica, Spelunky 2, Ooblets and BattleBlock Theater.
I'm using this channel to teach people about the art of making trailers via video essays, tutorials, reviews, and behind-the-scenes looks at my own work. I think about trailers a lot both for work and fun, so I have A LOT to say about them.

These videos have been great! I am working on my first video game trailer and these lessons and tips have been very helpful. Is there any fighting game trailers you recommend?

Glad you like the videos! I haven't given fighting games much attention because by design they're very visual and easy to understand, so they don't really have to solve the problems a lot of other game trailers do. I think even when they have a new mechanic they don't really have to spend a lot of time explaining it (if any). As long as the editing is well executed with a nice mix of gameplay they don't have to do much more. The worst I've ever seen is just bad dialogue editing where there are cinematic moments but no coherence to the trailer's story. That said, I quite liked this Samurai Showdown trailer ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1mXTzNQVyc0.html If you want to extend it to single screen multiplayer games (which are VERY tough to make trailers for) I recommend the Towerfall trailers by my friend Kert Gartner.

Thanks! I use Premiere Pro, but use whatever you feel comfortable with. It's only important to use specific software when you're working at an office where you have to use what they use or collaborating with people you need to share files with.

This isn't really a special effect of any sort, it's just in the motion graphic, the camera suddenly tracks in while simultaneously cross fading out.

That good and all but what if is multiplayer arena game And have some disaings that's selling point what then? For example the I'm trying to create is fps multiplayer game I'm not able a trailer Base on the story because this dasn't have a story also if don't the this and that how people able this that is multiplayer game and this has local multiplayer with split screen ? Is not like the is finish I'm just curious because most off the I'm going to create multiplayer games pvp game and don't stuff like so very important to understand the besices off those types off games

Then you have to create a gameplay story that highlights the game mechanics and the loop of a match. I recommend the Halo Infinite multiplayer trailers and also Splitgate trailers. Call or Duty Warzone trailers are good too.

@@DerekLieu there is few more problem if do that 1. my primeri language is not English that means the acend I will be Way off 2. I'm not voice actor probably the performance I will not be good at all 3. I have never create a trailer so I don't think I will esye for my to create the dialogue

@@watercat1248 If that's the case: 1. Try to make the trailer without voiceover 2. Hire a voice actor/narrator 3. Use title cards which are in English and get a native speaker to check your spelling and grammer.
