Tip not included from professional sculptors that work in Green: always remove the middle part of the ribbon where the different putties touch. They will already have begun to cure in that area and those pieces will never mix properly. Just cut the central part of the strip out. It's best to completely separate the parts of the ribbon from each other. The epoxy putty can be frozen to preserve freshness for at least a decade.

don't buy the strips, get the sticks

@Bunyip_Studios strips with gap are an option now. And sticks cost about %60 more for some reason...100g tape $10 and 100g sticks $16.40

Vaseline is my choice for antisticking tools and fingers when using greenstuff. Although I would only suggest other "personal lubricant products" as an alternative if you are making a Slaanesh related model but they all seem to work. You just need something that clings to you and the tools and is oily. Although I have found it may get on the green stuff which may need to be re-adhered with super glue if it falls off. I made hats for some Ogryn and they stuck to the model initially but later fell off once solid but they were easily were glued back on.
@SprayBlackStudios
@SprayBlackStudios 3 года назад
Yeah, you do have to be a little careful of getting the lubricant between the putty and contact surface of the miniature but as you say if it is solid then it's usually pretty easy to glue back on. Also I do actually know someone who uses "personal lubricant".....
@lordhefman
@lordhefman 3 года назад
@@SprayBlackStudios by the way, if you are curious here is one of said Ogryn. Well slave ogryn I decided my Necromunda gang would be based on Super Mario Brothers as I think a bunch of hulking plumbers jumping through pipes and stomping on large humanoid turtles makes since in the grim dark future of the 41st millennium. twitter.com/zaggrim/status/1407370805638467597?s=19

Excellent tips; the one about letting it cure is especially important, and it really helps to plan ahead so you can work in layers. One thing to add to getting the right mix; greenstuff and milliput mix really well, so if you need to get some finishes that can be more annoying to do with greenstuff (like really sharp edges) throw some milliput into the mix and you should find it a lot easier.
@SprayBlackStudios
@SprayBlackStudios 3 года назад
That's another great tip! Sharp edges are one of those things that people really struggle with. Certainly one that took me a while to get right!
@beeeeeesbury
@beeeeeesbury 2 года назад
May I ask what makes it more usable for sharper edges? I'm assuming it's the sandable quality of the milliput.
@Karlmakesstuff
@Karlmakesstuff 2 года назад
@@beeeeeesbury Heya :) Yes, sanding, filing or scraping milliput smooth is one of the easiest ways to get really crisp, sharp, regular edges. That said I haven't experimented with more recent epoxy putties, so there may be better stuff out there.
@beeeeeesbury
@beeeeeesbury 2 года назад
@@Karlmakesstuff OK awesome, do you still need to be careful when sending the mixture? I know that people don't like sanding greenstuff due to the shavings being harmful.
@Karlmakesstuff
@Karlmakesstuff 2 года назад
@@beeeeeesbury I wouldn't snort it for sure. Same as with any other fine particulate really, just make sure you give your work surface a wipe down when you're done and wear a filter if you're using a dremel. If you're sanding by hand the dust will be more contained but you can still wear a filter to be on the safe side. Shavings (as opposed to dust) aren't so much of a risk.

I know I'm three years late to the party but I've just found this video! I've been struggling loads with greenstuff trying to replace a missing Death Guard bell from a model bought on eBay and this has helped so much, I was ready to call it quits and just buy a new model but this saved me, thank you so much!

This honestly helped so bloody much. As someone finally returning to the model aspect of the hobby, this has been something I've been keen on getting better at. Before taking a break about a decade ago, I got good with the whole "molten flesh" bit of sculpting, but always wanted to learn how to do things like, armor, hair and cloth, and this definitely helped tremendously. So, new tools ordered and hopefully we'll see some good results in the near future!

Isn't it weird how everybody has a different experience with certain tools. I bought the silicone tipped shapers and the wax tools together on Amazon back when I started. Can't stand the wax tools, but I've managed to create my own detailed sculpts (entire miniatures, mind you) with the silicone tipped tools. The wax carving tools are great for hard lines, but I'm not gentle enough to get mileage out of them on detailed sections. Great video btw

Ive just got back into 40k myself after around 17 years.. hence why im youtubing green stuff to see if its still the go to epoxy sculpting putty for warhammer. it is kind of upsetting that the "make an original army" way of thinking has being lost and people are happy with 3 colours or sticking to the box art. its like myself ive just got back into 40k after seeing that the custodes are now an army (late to the party i know!) and bought a a few warden set and the first thing i did after part gluing some of the figures together was throw away the instructions, swap parts around, chop bits up and change stances. making a figure/army that cannot be bought is one of the most rewards things about this hobby... my first ever conversion was a "winged-demon chaos dreadnought" that had wings from a the malekith dragon from fantasy also used its claws and horns... admittedly it wasnt that good and back then cost me an arm and a leg to make but i was so proud of it.... this was before the tau army was even a thing😂
@SprayBlackStudios
@SprayBlackStudios 2 года назад
Great to hear that you are back in the hobby! There still are a few of us around that love a bit of converting/kitbashing but we are a bit more rare than we used to be! Custodes is a great choice to get back in with, not many models but oh man they are good....
@waynewayoaveyard9397
@waynewayoaveyard9397 2 года назад
@@SprayBlackStudios I guess im back rep'in the old school! hahaa. yeah, after a few hours looking on youtube it does seem that we are a dying breed or atleast a rare one. in all honestly i went custodes because i remember reading about them years back and the army of the ten thousand... just had to get my hands on them when i walked past my local games workshop and do a solar watch army but with my own twist. but the main reason is like you say they dont have many models so any changes are noticeable and following the lore each and every custodes is comparable to a hero of sorts so customising them will be a dream especially when most are just happy with them out of the box. if anyone else read this and is thinking about getting into customising please do! it makes the hobby so much more better seeing other peoples work!
