They just put it where it is most profitable. Simple logistics, entirely coincidental with people in that area getting less healthy. Where people are willing to spend more on junk food, another fast food place opens, which causes people to walk shorter distances to fuel their unhealthy eating habits!

The Trash can part. Yes it stops rainwater and kindof stops bathroom use as well, but you actually did mention it. it also stops ppl from shoving items way to big to fit in the trashcan and prevents the trashcan being taking up by One or a couple Large items that might Fill it.

The curvilinear street design of subdivisions are to maximize the number of houses possible on the land their built, and it's why you have to twist/turn just to get home if you live in one. Without the need for alleys and crossover streets that blocks have had in the past it's possible to put even more homes on the land they use to occupy. One intended consequence was to guarantee a monopoly for business built near them as they sat amoungst like an island in a sea of houses by developers that often built both.....

I'd respect churches more if they'd do something to help. I know there was a story a while back about a priest who allowed the homeless to stay at his church, but the local government made him stop. But imagine if every religious leader did this and they used the same excuse that gets them out of paying taxes and whatnot. Yknow... following the will of god by being kind to others in spite of earthly principalities? It wouldn't make me believe in a diety but I'd have alot more respect for the religious in general if this was what their beliefs led them to do. Instead, tithes and donations are used to make cosmetic upgrades to church buildings and pay the salaries of the people who read at you from an old book... sometimes very angrily. I just find it baffling that there is even one homeless person in my USA while those with "religious conviction" spend time and money every Sunday in order to ensure that next sunday, they can give more time and money. I was homeless for about a year. Tent in the woods of North Carolina. It sucked. No one wants to hire a homeless person. I had to reluctantly return to my family. Yeah, I chose a tent over the shame. 😧 Homelessness alongside wealthy religion is a big deal to me. It really pisses me off.

Plenty of cities in Japan are built with walking as the main mode of transportation. Above road and below ground public transport (subways). And when you need something large moved you can pay people to move it for you. Roads used to be for walking until car companies paid to have the government to pass several bills in their favor. It would be like if it became illegal not to own an iPhone... who profits from that?

Your point about homelessness just makes no sense to me... I walk down a dimly lit alley every week that has a homeless community by it and never have any trouble these people need help not to be shoved to the fringes of society. Talk about controlling behaviour, treat them like vermin and they're likely to turn to drink or drugs, treat them like the humans they are and... Well they will likely contribute positively to society
