Hey, another 0 is another zero. The glass can be half-full and or half-empty, and if working with a game dev has taught me anything it's that you just have to be stubborn enough to keep chasing the results you need to achieve. Just perseverance. That's all you need. Or so www.youtube.com/@SamuelAsherRivello says.

As someone currently going to uni for graphic design, it's incredible how many of the principles we learn and continue to learn apply to game design. Theorems and thought experiments which quite a few students considered worthless because "when or how would we even use this?" when in reality, with a bit of know-how, it could end up being the deciding factor. Fantastic video!

the answer to the question about why sounds work together is to do with how the waves overlap - for example a note one octave above another note is just double the frequency so the turning points match up a lot

I think a bonus 6th step for making a game look BOOTIFUL has to be motion. I'm surprised this isn't mentioned actually. Little bits of motion are key to making a game feel alive. Maybe it was assumed since it's a video game and things will be moving anyways, but small details like grass blowing, trees swaying, water flowing, maybe bugs flying by or a crystal sparkling can give a sense of wonder.

so many people are trying to teach me color theory without explaining the logic behind it. they just say "oh this formation of the color wheel is good, and this one is good" and then they just do something else in their examples. you didn't pick green and red as complementary colors and made them slightly more warm. you just picked orange and yollow-ish green, which are not complementary. other example i saw in a video: somebody showed his work to showcase how the triad scheme synergizes, but what made the artwork truly beautiful, was the addition of a color that doesn't fit in any of the mentioned schemes. in the end, people just invent more and more schemes to fit their explanations and that's what makes it so redundant. katana zero is a beautiful game too, to me at least, without fitting any of the mentioned schemes and that's the point. it's subjective with some biases on experience like green + orange, that happens to be the colors of harmonic settings in the woods in a frame of a clearing. some people like monochromatic pink, some hate it but like green, while others hate the green. if you like peaceful clearing scenes, you like the green+orange scheme, if you like futuristic cyber stuff, you like the chaotic katana zero scheme. i like both. i didn't like the katana zero color scheme at first, but i learned to love it. did my perception alter? no, just my subjective taste. it's all just positive and negative associations, which is subjective and thus can't be the logical outcome of appearance itself. it's the same with anything else that is considered beautiful. color schemes are at best a typology of statistically successful combinations, don't come with pseudo logic sorry to dump it here, but i am trying to understand stuff and have limited time to do so. but understanding doesn't mean to uncritically assimilate so called "knowledge" of a subject you "learned" somewhere else and apply it. understanding means to grasp the logic behind the subject and being able to infer with it. here some inspiring words from gautama siddhartha (buddha): "don't believe something, because others believe it" "don't believe something, because all believe it" "don't believe something, because it is written" "don't believe something, because it is considered holy" "don't believe something, because wise people say it" "believe only, what you identified as true"

this ^ . This guy always makes me feel like he's living in a bubble and selling every thought he had along the way of his moderately successful career. He invented some cheap tricks that helped him make acceptable quality with little effort, using barely surface level knowledge. I know he works hard and it's always impressive to make it work one way or another in this industry. It's still frustrating to see this little self-awareness and people praising him.
