I had 2 labrador retrievers who had acl injuries. Surgery was 4,000 plus,something I couldn't afford. The vet explained the gentle care healing technique. It takes the same amount of time as recovery from surgery. Both of them healed completely with no further problems. It is far superior to surgery.

I have large dogs, 100lbs or more. 3 out of 4 knees torn, I did surgery each time. Even on my senior who was 10.5 years old. He recovered in 5 weeks, my female recovered in 6. There are less invasive procedures, but really need done by a great vet.

Thank you for this video. I’m finding it hard to not get angry with my dog’s experience with torn ACL and the completely useless advice and instruction we got compared to this video, and we paid thousands of dollars for her to end up paralyzed from a vet dropping her on the floor and having to put her to rest bc she couldn’t expel her bladder. Ty for the videos and hopefully helps others not experience the devastation and betrayal we did.

@@maralfniqle5092 thank you so much for your kind words 🙏 they actually released her to me paralyzed and didn’t tell me out of fear. They placed her in my car since she was a larger dog breed (German Shepard) and I didn’t realize something was wrong until I tried to get her out of the car and she collapsed on me (I’m 120lbs so we both fell to the ground). They refunded me the $1500 and the vet called to apologize after I called them to ask what happened. Such a terrible mess and deception. She passed in perfect spirits, she was all there mentally and her usual happy self but she couldn’t pass urine and was starting to get toxic inside. I was ready to get her fitted for a wheelchair and prayed so hard for her to pass urine but she never could. Can I ask if you used a knee brace ? My greyhound has torn his ccl. I bought a knee brace which unfortunately doesn't fit due to his unique body shape. There's no one who makes costume made braces here in Australia only in the US or Uk. Its costly and will take a long time before it gets here and also, I have to do the cast myself which is risky for accuracy. I can't keep buying knee braces and hope that one will fit....the companies don't take returns so it can't end up being very costly. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My 120lb Cane Corso (avg to slightly below weight for her size) blew her ACL. Not only could I not afford the surgery, but there wasn't any local vets that performed the particular surgery she needed. I had a honest vet that explained the surgery to me and how bad it actually was...they literally cut the ball joint off...he said its extremely painful for the dog and recovery was not easy nor guaranteed and many times unsuccessful. As Dr Jones directed, I was told to restrict her movement (I was told for a full month) and then slowly add activity. I wrapped her leg as well during the month of restricted movement I also bought a collapsible 2 tier step-stool to get her in and out of my SUV and used them from that day going forward (which learning to use the step-stool totally came in handy as she aged, because I'm disabled myself so I would not have been able to lift her) using the steps kept the jarring/jolting of the front legs and shoulder joints jumping down, and more stability for the rear legs and hip joints getting in She healed well!...I'd say 95% (I continued to keep a guarded and mindful eye on her, and reeled he in when she got rambunctious)

@1wascallywabbit 5 месяцев назад
@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 I wrapped it with a semi loose ace bandage for maybe a week or so during that month of restricted movement. My vet had said it was better to not brace or wrap it because the key was to allow the muscles and tendons to re-gain strength, and allowed the scar tissue to keep pliable...which in the end is what stabilizes the knee/ACL.

@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 You're welcome. Please note that was probably 10÷ years ago for my girl, but it is how I recall it. But you may want to ask around to get additional input, especially since a Cane Corso has a thicker bone structure and stockier build vs your Greyhound...but I would think the physics would still apply. (I lost my girl last Sept at the age of 12.5yrs and her knee issue was back when she was around 2yo. She never got back full flexibility of that knee...and had a hard sitting like before (had to sit kind of cattywampus and laid with it stretched out rather than tightly curled up) ...but she ran and played and treated life like a puppy up until the last week of her life. I'm an animal physiotherapist (specialized in dogs and cats), so I get my fair share of ACL on a regular basis. The usual way you have to think of is 1) Stabilization 2) Strengthening muscles and 3) Keep those muscles. 1) Yes, it's a leash and I usually recommend a good knee brace (consider that each pet is individual, so what might've fit your neighbor's dog, might not fit yours). ROM (range of motion) exercises as demonstrated and stabilization exercises (such as having your dog walking on straight lines or backwards slowly, balance pads or pillows can be added as well though at first they shouldn't be too shaky and support needs to be guaranteed). + Regardless which leg hurts, always train both sides. One leg loses muscles, but the other one is getting tense from being overused and since your dog is running on four legs this will eventually result in back pain as well. So massage the back (going with the fur, like stroking, but add a little more pressure to get to the muscles). If you find tight muscles, try forming a tent by pinching the skin behind said tight muscles and - without dropping your fingers - roll the skin forward Isometric exercise can be done as well (though I would keep it easy by doing so when he lies down) 2) That's when you put some pressure on the hind legs (easily archived by placing your dog's front paws higher - not higher than your dog's knee, though - and luring your dog to put more weight on the hind legs by showing him a treat above his head). Your dog shouldn't go as far as to sit down. Walking uphill slowly (better off when you're not walking straight up but at an angle) is also a great way to do so. 3) Usually this one can be done very easily by taking your dog for a walk :) If possible, always ask your animal physiotherapist to show you some exercises to do at home and have them show you in detail, try your first attempt when they're still around. Give your furry friend some cuddles. I hope they get better soon :)

It worked for my 2 year old pup and again when she re-injured it at age 5. She was a small dog at 15lbs. I got a stroller, used supplements and I got her a brace off Amazon even though it was not recommended. I did take it off every day and it was not tight. It helped keep her from trying to jump up on things and slowed her down around the house. I read it would take 3 months and the 2nd time it took the full 3 months and I did not take her to the vet the second time because I knew what to try. I heard if they get surgery they can injure the opposite side. I recommend giving it a try before committing to surgery if your dog is small. My mom's neighbors gave her a hard time when she watched her because I would not take her to the vet but I know I did the right thing.

My 62lbs Lab-X had TPLO surgery one year ago. It was expensive ($4200) but worked exceptionally well and fast. She extensively started to drool after I gave her the pain medication (Gabapentin), so I gave her a quarter of it and soon no medication at all and observed her carefully. She had no pain and did fine without meds. I give her green tea, turmeric and green lipped muscle powder. My concern was how fast the leg muscles atrophied, and with TPLO she was able to walk on that injured leg within 2 weeks of surgery and built her muscles back quickly. But I also had to follow a strict recovery plan for 12 weeks, because it still needs to fully heel regardless of what you decide to do. One year later she is doing very well, and I’m as careful as I can be not get the other ACL torn. I’m not sure what I would do if that happened, since she’s already nine years old. 😊

I wish I’d discovered Orto-Canis before getting our 40kg Dobermann’s left knee operated on. It’s healed well, but the surgery was a nightmare (bone saw broke as they started using it… she was sent home for five days until a replacement blade arrived; and she came home from each of the surgeries with a hole in her back that no-one can/will explain how they got there). And as soon as she was eventually healed, her other knee started to go. That’s when did some homework and found the products that we now use. The neoprene “sleeve-like’ legging(s) stabilise the knee and provide the support to enable your pooch to enjoy relatively pain-free exercise and fun. It’s held up by a Velcro strap that’s attached to her harness. It probably took a little less time for her to heal using the brace, but it still takes time and patience (on everyone’s behalf). However, the leggings are really cheap (compared to surgery), easy to use, washable, non-invasive, not painful for your dog, there’s no need for noxious medications to keep you pup sedated and there is no risk of your fur-baby developing infections or other complications that can accompany going under the knife. I hope that this snippet of information will be of help to you folks ❤

One tip , as a massage therapist, have your dogs lumbar area L4 and L5 released. I learned it’s common for this area to be tight, and releasing it helped him immensely. Dog was on raw food already but I upped his omegas . Originally I purchased a custom brace , after the first tear ($1000), but when he tore his second one I purchased a simple brace off Amazon for 95$. DMSO is awesome, and helps a lot!

We opted out of surgery for 65 lb American Staffordshire Terrier, first knee at 5, other happened at 7. I used a sling and crate for mandatory rest, some rimadyl I had on hand, Ellevet CBD, Dasequin chews, Assisi loop PEMF. He tells me how far to go now. Second side recovered faster since he’s been on home cooked diet. We tried the custom posh brace and skipped it second time around, didn’t enjoy dealing with that thing.

Another big reason why dogs who are recovering from tendon/ligament injuries should be switched to high protein diets is because that protein is going to provide the building blocks that your dog's body needs to repair those tissues. Tendons and ligaments are composed of mainly type 1 collagen, so high protein diets, especially ones with added bone broth or collagen supplements can be incredibly beneficial to the recovery process. LLLT has also been shown to enhance the repair state of tendons and ligaments. These 2 things paired with antinflammatory foods and energy work and massage really can make all of the difference when it comes to healing injuries like this.

Red light therapy/photobiomodulation is a wonderful treatment for all sorts of injuries, including ACL sprains and partial tears. My cousin's dog, Joy, injured her knee last winter, and the quote for surgery was $3000-$5000. He didn't have that much in the piggy bank, and in any case wished to avoid the surgery if possible. He knew how well red light therapy works for me, so he bought a small, inexpensive red light therapy device. He used it for 3 minutes 2 or 3 times a day, and within 4-5 weeks Joy wasn't limping at all anymore. He continues to use it for her about twice a week, and she continues to show no sign of discomfort. Dr. Jones has mentioned light therapy briefly in the past. Now that red light therapy devices have become so widely available (and much more affordable) for home use, I hope that he will consider doing a video with updated information.

@@zahrarosepeermohamed2620 The injured pup was my cousin's dog, and he considered getting a knee brace for her, but her improvement was so rapid that he didn't need to get a brace after all. Possibly her tear was not severe enough to need one, but I'd say it's better to get a brace and not need it, than to need it and go without it. My cousin also put his girl on green-lipped mussel and MSM. I hope your boy heals soon.

I had a Pomeranian who suffer from ACL issue at age of 9months after jumping off a sofa and she is now turning 3 soon. Was asked to do surgery, but I decided even if I could afford I wouldn’t want any bolts or metal in her. So I went on the nature recovery path for her by giving her glucosamine, MSM supplement and switching to raw food. Made her wear knee brace every time she gets off the bed (regardless whether she is going for a walk or not). Wearing basically 12-16 hours a day, taking out once every few hours for a 15-30minutes. Giving her rehabilitation session everyday for 2 months. She recovered without any pain now. Walks and runs as usual. Friends around me was impressed that she run like as if the ACL injury never happened. I might not get everything right, but it works for my dog. 1. Raw food diet 2. Glucosamine & MSM 3. Rehabilitation during recovery 4. Knee Brace (prevent joint from slipping and cause more pain and more damage) Now instead of glucosamine supplement , I am giving her grounded dried prawnshell as maintenance. And it’s working flawlessly.

@damienong1462
@damienong1462 2 месяца назад
@@abbeyB9680 I bought Ortho brand for her, the pros and cons of it, is that over time it would become loose & the Velcro might be full or fur making it less sticky. It best recommended to buy those brace that is double knee instead of single, as the unaffected knee will become a problem over time if only wear on one side. But most important is really the glucosamine, the diet and rehab. Imo raw diet seems to play a very big role in it, as she refuse to eat cooked or kibble even after recovering. She used to love cooked and kibble, but because of her knee I switched to raw (I included Calcium food like grounded egg shell and *grounded* dehydrated bone powder) and she is stuck to it. (Maybe it’s because raw diet make her recovery faster, I don’t know. ) If you intend to try raw diet, please research the danger of feeding raw diet. And do enough research on what to feed.

“Not everyone wants surgery” this! I know my baby needs surgery but I am so scared that surgery will make her worse but I’m here researching and watching videos because I also know she is uncomfortable and that may be surgery is best. I am just so scared to make the wrong decision. She torn her acl or so the vet thinks at 8 months at puppy day care. I took her to puppy day care bc we live in an apt and she’s an English lab who was so very happy and had so much energy. I thought I was doing what was best for her. She loved it, I couldn’t even mention the word “school” bc she would get so excited but one day when I went to pick her up, she was limping on 3 legs and they had nooooo idea what happened 🙄 she was completely normal when I dropped her off. I wish I could take that day back and never take her there. I feel so guilty which is why I’m scared to do surgery bc I don’t want to make her life worse. She is only 3 😭 she’s the sweetest n smartest baby ever. She deserves the best and I don’t understand why she’s had so many things happen to her. 😮‍💨😫

We did successfully heal her rear left ACL tear, but the right rear leg not responding very well, but I will try your video instructions. With pancreatitis, can she handle the supplements and green tea? She is on a low fat diet using royal canine, awful stuff, low protein, so I add some boiled chicken breast to her dry food. She has slight episodes of dementia and self imposed, non medical anorexia. Some days she just won’t eat, not sick, just won’t eat. She is on cartprofen for pain, Quercetin for allergies (works great) and gabapetin for severe anxiety when going to the vet or strangers come to the house, like the plumber. Thank you

My question here is…..why is this health challenge happening to so many dogs? I hear from many dog owners that their dog has torn their ACL. Weekend warrior dogs are more prone to this as they get limited exercise during the week when their owners are working and then on the weekends their owners try to over compensate and they are doing much more exercise such as running more, hiking, jumping. And then bam…..torn ACL or another leg injury.

Because she still doesn't walk normally, she can only walk a small amount before she's worn out. It makes me sad. She has gained back the weight she lost before surgery which isn't helping. I had my yorkie's ligament surgicaly repaired about 6 weeks after the day he held that leg up, 6 weeks later they said there was still too much "play" in the joint and it would have to be redone. I don't know how that could have happened, he's on leash, he's crated in a small carrier or held otherwise. I've got dmso and cbd and he's on prescribed melocicam not really wanting to keep him on this. He walks on it with a limp, is on some glucosamine for dogs the vet prescribed. I've been massaging and gently doing the type of passive range of motion twice a day. I would rather hope for some sort of healing but can it even though he's had the surgery? It was the lateral suture procedure. He's got tiny little bones.

Almost 0 jumping she has faked me out pretending to go get a drink of water when I was about to lift her up to the bed then as soon as I settle back down she comes running and jumpin on the bed. But so far I have noticed a reduced amount a limping. I will continue this till she stops limping. And she is on some good suppliments and just added added more to her CBD regiment recently. But its hard for her not to want to run outside. She missing chasing evil squirrels that get into my garden lol, RubyDoo my garden protector. She misses her trike runs and hiking. We also brought her weight back to a normal range and have managed to keep it down since, which is helping a lot. Occasionally she does a bit too much running and ends up limping for a day or two.
