5 Strange Creatures Found Frozen in Ice

When an animal becomes frozen in ice, it’s body can last for thousands of years, giving us an incredible view of what the world was like when the animal was alive. Prehistoric mammoths, woolly rhinos, and even humans have been discovered, and are almost perfectly preserved, encased in their tomb of ice. But sometimes, more mysterious things are uncovered that seem to challenge parts of our understanding of biology.

So the Ice Man had killed two guys with his bow and arrow, potentially also killed a guy with his hatchet, then possibly also carried a wounded comrade, and also dabbed in his death? This man is a legend.

Chris Lecher It turns out that the 'tattoos' on the ancients weren't permanently done with needles, but were painted on and would fade and need redoing over time. Better really, considering how many people have had bad tatts or regretted having any.

They tested only males in Tyrol for a match - his paternal Haplogroup (G) afaik was once the most common type in Europe, it's only become rarer because of displacement via migrations. The precious, amazing discovery, of a preserved baby Woolley mammoth, which survived tens of thousands of years, intact, needlessly lost its ear and tail when they were chewed up by a local dog. The cousin of the guy who discovered the mammoth sold it to a store owner before the museum curator got there, and the owner carelessly propped up this fantastic, priceless discovery outside his crappy store in case anyone wanted to buy it. It’s infuriating how the greed of this one guy ruined a specimen forever.

As a former police officer, I have suspected that Otzi died by a self- inflicted wound, via falling and causing one of his arrows to enter his back. The other wounds detailed would also have been from this fall, which was probably considerable. As for the arrow shaft being broken, this too likely occurred while he continued his tumbling and rolling down a mountainside. During my active duty, I investigated a poacher who was using a bow and arrow. He fell out of the tree he had been using, and when he landed, one of his arrows pierced him, causing his poaching buddies to call 911 for an ambulance. Being stabbed by his own arrow was absolutely Poetic Justice.

I saw the Minnesota ice man in the late 1960's. He was in a carnival sideshow and was in a freezer full of ice. You could pay around 50 cents and walk by this freezer and look at him from about 2 feet away. They claimed he was found in a block of ice, and was the sought-after "Missing Link". This was a term that was common back then since there was no clear connection in the fossil record between apes and humans. To me, the body looked very real, and I recall seeing tiny bubbles in the ice coming up from some of the spots in his skin where the hairs came out. I don't know if that's something that happens when a body is frozen shortly after death or not. Or maybe it's due to fake hairs being inserted into the body. It seems like I remember seeing some blood in the ice as well, but I'm not sure. I've heard some say that ice flows and moves too much to preserve a body for a very long time. But then again, there are examples like the famous baby woolly mammoth with buttercups in it's mouth, which was apparently encased in ice for over 10,000 years.

There is no such thing as a "missing link between humans and Neanderthals." Neanderthals were a separate species that evolved at the same time as modern humans, and with whom early humans interbred. A "missing link" between them, wouldn't look like an ape, if such a thing existed, since Neanderthals looked much like modern humans. Why would the "missing link" be less evolved than both species it supposedly links?

Neanderthals and Modern Man went down two entirely different trees. Neanderthals weren't 'less developed', they just didn't populate enough. When we showed up, easily having a population ten times that of the neanderthal population, we bred with them and since there were so many more of us than them they eventually got mixed into our ancestry. That's why many people around today have like one to four percent neanderthal blood.

It sounds like the original was replaced by a latex model, there could be several reasons why, maybe the original was sold and a copy made to keep making money. Two crypto zoologists examined the original and were 100% certain it was legit, it would only take a couple of seconds for you or me to see it was a fake latex model if that was the case. Creatures like this have been seen many thousands of times all over the world, here in Australia the Aboriginals called them Hairy Man (in their lingo) they were seen by the first European settlers and continue to be seen regularly to this day. Sightings are so common most people don't even bother reporting it, everyone's already heard all about it so what's the point.

The articles and stories I had read at the time said the evidence so far suggested he might have been: either a farmer who was killed during a sheep-napping, or that he was a hunter who was attacked by an unknown party, and shortly succumbed to his wounds after collapsing in the snow and ice. It's cool how they now have BLOOD TRACES of other individuals preserved within his clothes and tools! So much has been put together since their original proposal ;)

I saw Ötzi at the museum, and by looking at it, I thought about a possible explanation of what happened. I think that a tribe attacked his family/ tribe and he fought back, and then he tried to escape in the mountains. Or maybe he murdered a family/tribe and looked for shelter in the mountains from the survivors coming to kill him. He also got a cut inside his half-closed hand, and it was found out that he got that cut fighting few days before, and he wasn't prepared to go on a mountain: in fact, he didn't have proper mountain shoes, and this seems to be because he went on the mountain in a rush, forgetting at his possible village/tent the proper equipment. Also, he managed to walk/run a long distance in few time. All these evidences seem to prove that he was running away from one or more people following him to kill him.

Back in the early 70s, I got to see the Minnesota Iceman three times, and nearly got to see it a fourth time. The first time, we were allowed to be close enough that you could lean over the container of ice. That had to been around '73 to maybe 1975, probably closer to '73. You could see the hair growing out of pores so clearly that there was no question that it was anything other than some biological being. The tour was in a shopping mall in their center courtyard. I think it cost maybe 50 cents to go through the tour, which consisted of following a line as it zip-zagged back and forth until you got to walk by the frozen display. There were long lines to see the thing, but we each had plenty of time to get a real good look. No one thought it did not look real. I was able to see it twice at the same mall. Being really curious about such a thing, I got to talk to the man that was taking him around (and it was definitely not James Stewart). I won his confidence and got to talk to the owner while others went through the tour. He told me a lot more about how the Iceman, and that he was concerned that it would get taken away from him to prevent people from ever believing something like this was possible. Part of his incentive was that the more people that saw it, the better off he was in preventing it from being hidden from the public. He also was aware of the necessity to keep the flesh from decomposing even though it was on ice. He knew that some point, it would not be possible to show it anymore. We talked about other other science oddities, and concluded that it would be rare for any other oddities to be discovered in this modern of an age, but we both agreed that if it happened, and confirmed by scientists, we would not be totally surprised. One thing that surprised me was that the owner would never have believed something like the Iceman would be possible until it had happened. It was some time after that I got a third chance to see the Iceman. The person I had spoke to was nowhere around, so I paid my fee and went through the line. We could get right next to the container but not so close you could lean over it. Still you could get a real good look at it. This time, the Iceman looked quite a bit different. Where individual hairs joined the flesh, it did not look real at all. Maybe the decomposing was making it look different. The Iceman overall looked different, and the ice had more air distortions in it, making it harder to see some parts of the body. I wondered if it had been thawed, moved some, then refrozen. I wondered if some of the insides were caving in necessitating the thawing and refreezing. This time others were saying that it did not look real, and some of them had seen it the last time, and agreed it looked different. Others were totally convinced it was real. After the tour, I went shopping in the mall, and stayed there until it was near closing time as usual, then my girlfriend and I would go the movies at the end of the mall. When I walked back by the courtyard, the tours had ended, and everything was being hauled away. I asked one of the workers if the owner was there, and he said that he was outside at the truck. I went looking for him, hoping he would remember me. I found him, but since they were finishing up, I didn't have as much time to talk to him as I had before. He remembered meeting me before. I asked him why the Iceman looked different now. I'll never forget how he said it, when he said with a smile, 'keep this to yourself, but that might not be what you first saw if you know what I mean. A man's got to make living." He smiled as he shook my hand, and I told him with a return smile, "good job" because it definitely had fooled some of the people. That is the first time I ever considered that this one might be a fake. That explained why the hair did not look so natural. At least he had solved the ongoing decomposing problem. The next time I got a chance to see the Iceman, the owner was not touring with it, at least that is what I was told. I passed on the tour because I was confident that it had to be the fake one, but I did ask a few that went on the tour what it was like. Some had seen it before, although it was not clear when that happened, but they believed it was the same one, and that it looked "like it could be fake" but they were not sure either way. Some others were confident it was real without a doubt, and still others were confident that it was fake. Their beliefs seemed to align with whether they thought such a thing was possible or not, as in whether we know about all creatures on earth yet. I figured it was best to not say anything about my conversations with the owner. It was more fun to see how convincing it was to those that believed it had to be real. I believe the owner did what he had to do to keep making money with it. It wasn't like this was his hobby. This was his only means of income as far as I could tell. Either way, I didn't feel like I was cheated out of my money, since it was such a cheap price. The man I met was a very likable figure. I felt privileged to get to speak to him. I will not fault the guy because I did get to see one earlier on that truly looked like a humanoid real life-form, with believable facial hair and where the hair thinned out near the hands. I'm just glad I got to see it at all. From what I can tell, the one in Texas is not worth paying 50 cents to see, simply because it is so clear to a lot of people that it is a fake.

James Howlett: >"What do YOU think happened?" I must admit I am just as curious as you are. I don't have anything to go on to believe what could possibly have happened. I have way more questions than answers. One curiosity I have wondered about pertains to the "rubber suit" idea. If at any time there was a rubber suit version, think of the complexity to even make such a thing. Most likely this was not the work of the man that traveled around with the Minnesota Iceman. There would have to be some other individual or even more than one, to put together something on that order. Why are they so secretive? Why has that person (or persons) not come forward? What would they have to gain after so many years? What kind of contract could have been made to create something so unique that it goes around the country on tour, but they never reveal they created it. It was in all the local newspapers, so anyone involved would have known how curious the world was about it. And now, these many years later, it is discussed in many places on the internet, and still there is no one explaining how they made this suit. That seems very odd to me. I think even today that it would be very difficult to create a suit so believable that it would fool most viewers at close range, even under ice. I don't think it would be impossible, only that I think it would be very difficult, and certainly expensive. There should be a contest to see who could come up with the most believable synthetic Minnesota Iceman. It would most likely be a film studio that could accomplish such a task, which would very odd since most of their creations are done in CGI. Maybe an old make up artist with lots of time on their hands, plus some expendable cash to make such a thing. I would love to see one. The last time I saw the Minnesota Iceman on tour, it did look a little different, including the hair coming out of the pores, but in no way did I ever think that it was a man-made rubber or any other material, complete with a lot of hair. In those days, making movie props was no where near as sophisticated as it is today, but unlike movie props that are only viewed on film, this was something that was being viewed close up. To pass the scrutiny of continued viewers, a synthetic suit would have been an impressive achievement. Another thing that I have thought about is the appearance of the face, and how it changed from a closed mouth to an open mouth with teeth. In one part of this video there is a mention that the man that toured with the Minnesota iceman was worried that he could get in trouble for having killed something that might have been so closely related to modern man. If such a creature did exist, it certainly did not exist alone, unless it was indeed the last surviving member. Now consider that a hunter comes across this thing in the woods, but there are two of them, and both are killed. Admitting that he had killed two of them would have raised more eyebrows than killing one. It would be better to say there was only one. Both would be frozen in as near a duplicated fashion as possible. One could be put on tour while the other is hidden. They could even work as interchangeable show items, making travel from one show to another less complicated. I have no reason to think that this is what happened, only that it could be another possibility.
