Grew up Presby. Many pics of Jesus on the walls and stained glass windows. Didn't overemphasise Psalms since there are 65 other books with great content.Sunday was not worshipped as a day. Jesus was worshipped everyday. Baptism of babies is mainly good for bringing un saved family members. If Presby only baptised the saved, they might be saddened to discover how few baptisms they performed. Let's major on what's most important guys. The Cross, the lost, The Holy Spirit, The Word of God

I was born and raised in Baptist churches, and grew up singing the old hymns. One of the things that been driving me crazy is its getting really rare to find Baptist churches in my area that still even USE the hymns. They use the contemporary worship songs, that you sing for a few years, then forget them. I cant even rememost of the songs i sang 10 years ago, but i can still remember the old hymns like "The old rugged cross", "Trust and Obey" "When i survey the wondrous cross" and many others. Most of the old hymns held biblical truths, while most of the "worship" songs is more emotional based.

I grew up attending a Baptist church, accepted Christ Jesus in Sunday school and was baptized at 10 years old. I am in my eighties now but still remember that time in my life vividly. Best decision I ever made. My eternal salvation means everything to me. I cannot love this comment enough. My family attended a Charismatic church for quite some time and they played only contemporary songs with a loud band. They’d turn off the lights and turn on fog machines and black lights. I asked them if they’d perform my favorite hymn “Victory in Jesus,” and I was told it doesn’t fit their style, and also that don’t know the sheet music for it. 🤦🏾

The PCA ordains alleged "celibate" homosexual men as teaching elders or pastors. This is the sort of compromise that results from the semi-Calvinist doctrine of the three points of common grace. As far as I can tell, the EPC also believes in common grace. There is no biblical evidence that anyone is born a homosexual with an inborn sexual orientation. There is plenty of evidence in the Bible that original sin causes the abomination of homosexuality. @@bravehome4276

As someone from a non-denominational, baptistic type church I appreciate your explanations of these "strange" things you believe. And although I don't follow most of them I love learning what other brothers and sisters believe. One thing I've come around to is the keeping of the Sabbath. I was always taught, and still believe, that it's no longer a "must" for believers under grace. However, I've come to acknowledge it as a blessing rather than a commandment. I "get" to keep the Sabbath rather than I "have" to keep it. It was made for Man, after all! Blessings to you. ❤️

My family had moved frequently and we went to several different denominations, according to what was near and convenient. For several years we attended the Presbyterian church and I did find Christ as Lord and Savior there. I was baptized there by sprinkling. I had a lot of Baptist friends and they had a lot of skepticism about my faith. But I persevered. I did understand the "singing of the psalms". Glory! Can I shout? But I did have difficulty with the Five Points of Calvinism. In the providence of God, I did end up in the Church of the Nazarene, where I was called to pastoral ministry, which I followed for 50 years. Even for the few differences of understanding and trying to explain God's great calling and salvation, I did often thank God for my roots in the Presbyterian church. Thank you for a calm, reasoned explanation of the Presbyterians.

The original Greek word for baptism is a word for immersion. This is what occurred with Christ and that ,for me, is the example to follow. It signifies raising to life, from death to life. Get a concordance and look up the word SPRINKLE, SPRINKLING! And does it make sense that all those people coming to the Jordan River were immersed? @@toolegittoquit_001 I've never heard this "gospel of works" you speak of. Please explain. Adoration is worship reserved only for the Trinity. Mary and other saints are venerated (honored) but not adored. The real presence in the Eucharist is as old as Christianity itself. The doctrine of transubstantiation does not explain the what of the Real Presence but the how, or the process, of how the host becomes the real presence (accidence vs. substance). The Papacy is authority given to Peter as the leader of the Apostles (see how Matthew 16 mirrors Isaiah 22). While the role of the Pope has been more clearly defined as time went on, the early church recognized the primacy of the Bishop of Rome over the other bishops.

So do you think Jesus turned away parents that wanted their babies baptise. I dought it. Look to where this tradition comes from . You will find it is someone's interpretation of a scripture passage. But the scriptural passage will be based on the conversation of that time . Taken out of text. That is the problem with Sola scriptoria. I can make a case for anything if I pick and choose what I want to see in Scripture. Read this book and follow your traditions. Those traditions come from the original church. That church is the Catholic Church.
@cranmer1959
@cranmer1959 10 месяцев назад
The problem with the Romanist view is that you cannot question the authority of men who invent traditions out of thin air. Some matters are matters of adiaphora or indifference. Baptism of infants is one of those matters. But the Protestants are united on their opposition to the Roman Catholic Church. Presbyterians base their doctrine of paedo-baptism on the Scriptures. In the Old Testament the covenant sign was the circumcism of male infants after 8 days. The New Testament sign is the baptism of both male and female infants by sprinkling. You can't make a case for anything from the Bible. The Bible is very specific, while the traditions of men change from one decade to the next. @@hayeslincoln3111

He said too often, we worship those pictures as idols without even realizing it. That was 43 years ago, and I've never owned such a picture since. I've come to recognize the fact that since we don't have any way of knowing what Jesus looked like, ANY image of Him is false. And He doesn't want us focusing on outward looks anyway -- that's why He gave us no idea what He looked like. We "see" Jesus in the scriptures, and that's all we need.

Most Presbyterians would say, no, re-baptism is not necessary. If someone thinks their parents were flippant or superstitious when they “had the kid done”, they may wish to do it for themselves. My brother did because it was *his* own decision although our parents did their best, I did not because my parents had fulfilled the vows they made to bring me up “in the nurture and admonition of the faith” & I’d have thought it a huge insult to them if I had. Thanks for the gracious & thoughtful explanation. There are faithful Presbyterian congregations which are more lenient with Psalms & Sabbath-keeping, but they certainly would not argue with you. And a lot of us struggle with how predestination and free will can both be true, but for the moment we admit the tension & leave it up to God to work it out. After all, if we understood Him, He would be just human, not God. (I think it has something to do with eternity & time….)

FYI, the Cumberlands broke away from the mainline Presbyterians over Calvinism ie, that God predestines certain people for salvation and creates the rest to be destroyed in order to "glorify Himself".- a heresy that contradicts the bible and blasphemes God's character. What the bible ACTUALLY teaches is that all men are born separated from God because of Adam's sin but they are all likewise accepted by Christ's substitutionary sacrifice, but it's offered to each as a gift which they are free to either accept or refuse. God doesn't force salvation on some and withhold it from others as these TULIP Presbyterians teach.

First we had many stained glass windows with Christ face, his resurrection, crucifixion, on the Mount of Olives, in Gethsamane, our ministers wore robs and vestments, we had a liturgy, we did not use the term being saved" which was against reformed theology quite frankly. And about missionaries, there was never a push there due to the belief in predestination. Many of these things he is talking about does not sound like Traditional Presbyterian or the Church of Scotland teaching. Sounds like some kind of puritan take and some hyper evangelical beliefs. Sunday is the Christian Sabbath, as authorized by God after Christ arose and worshipped with the disciples on Sunday, and every subsequent Sunday until His ascension.

@@sheryllynmc Actually Sunday is the Catholic Sabbath the Catholic Church even admits that it was the Catholic Church that changed the Sabbath to Sunday and MANY years after Jesus. Also the Catholic Church claims the Church sanctified Sunday because they did NOT want to worship on Saturday because they did not want be associated with those that killed Jesus. Sunday is a Catholic sabbath Saturday is still the true Sabbath. Check out history please don’t take my word for it. I hope you actually do check it out but you probably will consider me an idiot and refuse to seek the truth.

@@bigtobacco1098 The Catholic Church didn’t get it wrong they changed the worship day on purpose. Find ONE official verse in the Bible that actually says that SUN DAY is the new Sabbath. God did not change His mind or His Commandment. Catholic Pope did it in 336 AD. I think that The SDA church has a monetary reward if anyone can find a verse in the Bible that proves the Sabbath has been changed to Sunday. Contact them with your evidence.

I'm Afrikaans. Church Neder-Duits Gereformeerd. You will have a really difficult time finding any difference from The Presbyterians. Acknowledge Martin Luther's start of the Reformation, but in that regard, we follow the work of Johannes Calvein. All I can add is NO applause! no matter how good the choir sang or the visiting Organist played. Baptism/ Christianing of babies- allways been this wonderfull display of Grace to me. Free of charge, babies not excluded and pure grace- nothing you achieved or decided.

Being Catholic the image of Christ on the cross reminds me of what Christ did for me. I don’t worship the image or the cross. When I kneel in church, looking at the crucifix reminds me, helps me focus on God’s mercy. We sing the psalms too. Love singing them. We baptize babies too. We hold the Lords day sacred and honor it. Only time we miss ( at least for me), is if I am sick. We are saved by Grace, but good works are a product of our salvation by Grace. We are not saved by works.

@@percyhawkins716 All presbyterians are Calvinists...followers of the principles set forth by John Calvin. T= Total depravity means we are all totally depraved due to original sin. Most Christians believe we are deprived. U=Unconditional election means that God chooses to save some people and to pass over others. He has a love for some people he does not have for others. Most Christians believe that God wants to save everyone and also that this theory eliminates man's free will. L=Limited atonement means Jesus died only for those he chose, not for the whole world, despite John 3:16 stating that God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son. I=Irrestible grace means if God chose you as his elect you cannot choose otherwise. This reflects his power. Most Christians acknowledge God is all powerful, but that we have free will, which allows us to choose against God. P=Perseverence of the saints means all those who truly have believed in God will never finally fall away. God will not let us fall from his grace. This is also known as "once saved always saved". You can search things like "why the 5 points of Calvinism are not biblical" and get more detail on this. Research shows Presbyterian denominations are declining dramatically. Hope this helps

“Sola scriptura”. Is the slogan of the reformed movement. Yet they really don’t go by what they say. They don’t really believe in “scripture alone”. And it’s obvious by how they are ALWAYS quoting from other sources such as Calvin, Luther, catechisms, church fathers, and church councils. So it is definitely not scripture alone, unfortunately.

I am Baptist. Sunday, I attended a PCA church. I was brought to tears. The sermon dealt with election which I affirm. They are Reformed and Calvinistic which has become a bad word in Baptist churches. From the call to worship to the benediction, the worship was completely God centered. I’ve been living in a very dry place.

I fully expected you to mention having a "calling". A friend of mine from high school is a Presbyterian minister, his calling is woodworking and he's always posting his latest creations on Facebook. My uncle became a Presbyterian a couple of decades ago, and his job had always been as a maintenance superintendent for a high school, but he felt his calling was psychology, and he went back to school when he was like 40 and earned a doctorate because of this belief. As far as I know that belief is something unique to Presbyterians.

I well remember the moment of my baptism as a newborn infant (administered by a Presbyterian minister in Flossmoor, Illinois). My mother held me in front of the congregation, as I looked upon those people, then thinking to myself that I had nothing to do with them and their God stuff. Then suddenly at one point, evidently when Dr. Bell baptized me, "in the name of the Father . . .", there was a complete "break" in that spirit of rejection of God and suddenly I felt a part of everything going on there and at one with all those people I just moments earlier was so distant from. This was a deep inner change within me that I had no control over or willful participation in.
