That's very intriguing that when we daydream or when our minds wander it is very similar to actual dreaming, I didn't know this! It's like we just let our subconscious do whatever it wants to do.
The other day I did one of these things, sort of. I listened to a "soundscape" that was supposed to be "a spaceship's engine room", all night long, on earbuds. It was an obvious sort of Star Trek TNG-inspired collection of sounds. I had a dream where I was on the set of a production like TNG, where I was supposed to pretend to be doing maintenance on a component of the engine room. I didn't recognize that it was a dream, but it was no doubt inspired by that soundscape. Maybe next time!
A hot bath? That's a new one for us! We can't have a bath, sadly, but we'll try hot showers. Also, one question about mind-wandering: Does it have to be quiet for that, or could we put on our favourite music, as well, and would it still work? We tend to be able to (ironically) focus more with music, or be distracted by lots of other unrelated things and tasks.
i also have no Bath so i shower but i dont like shower late at night, because i have long hair and it takes two or three hours to get dry enough so sleeping with wet hair can damage it very quickly (learned that the hard way sometime so i never tried it again ever since. the one time i showered an hour before bed, the next morning i had a Bad Hair Day.). this also means, i'm not going to try take Hot showers before sleep in order to get Lucid dreams. the other tips are good enough for me to try. mind wandering in specific (or daydreaming) is the best one i believe but also the hardest because of my Fear for Boredom and always beeing busy. either reading or drawing... or watching TikTok.
I have an app on my phone which "tracks sleep" (movement during sleep and length) and while I don't fully trust it for actually seeing how good my sleep was, it does have a feature to play relaxing sounds for about 15 minutes. I find that listening to those sounds (especially the campfire one) does exactly what you mentioned - activates imagination and daydreaming. Through schemas, campfires relate to my dream goals and it allows me to get into that mindset and fully imagine what I want to happen later on in the night. Additionally, I could do "test runs" of my goals and see what directions I want to pursue with them and which ones I want to stay away from. That leads me to my next point/reflection. Daydreaming is something I do a lot, often when I catch my mind wandering in a direction that I find nice. Additionally, I've been on a writing kick where I daydream of different situations and scenarios, often recycling ideas and building on them. Unfortunately, I may daydream too much as the topics that I focus on a lot have not been appearing in my dreams for a while, but they have been inspiring future dream goals! I'm hoping with this writing kick I'm on that the topic I've been focusing on appears in my dreams soon! Great video as always! Apologies if my comment was a bit all over the place - my brain is really fried today!
I'm a big fan of sleep sounds, but I haven't used them in connection with schemas before. I might have to try that. Also I've found writing before bed to be quite helpful for getting my mind on lucid dreaming. I haven't found that it influences the content of my dreams much, but I tend to have higher rates of lucidity on nights where I write something relating to lucid dreaming or dream goals
Congrats on 60k! I've been here since 30k and learned so much along the way. At school one day, I taught my friend how to lucid dream. He didn't believe me at first. Then a few days later he tells me this crazy story of a lucid dream where he flew over his city. We've been doing it together ever since.
I had 0 dream recall last night and had to remind myself not to be to frustrated. With all of your experience do you still have days were you have no dream recall whatsoever, Daniel?
If you have problems with dream recall, day journaling can be effective to develop your prospective memory, then rehearsing this imagery right before going to bed.
I have literally been following every step of videos you have posted from years ago, even tried the journal, topics from other RU-vidrs nothing has worked. I would really like some certain tips from you to let me know what could help me do this. I’ve had dreams that I remember so clearly but I could never control it or turn it into lucidity. I just would like to learn to do this, so when I sleep I can be at peace or have fun. Please assist me.
1: my house dosent have a bath 2: My city is a desert and theres almost no trees or vegetation 3: is hard to sleep cuz i have much energy 4: I CAN DO THAT DEFINETLY I CAN 5 sometimes i daydream but not always 😢
the last technique you told (about daydreaming) is something i have a question for. when i was younger and there was no phones i had a lot of daydreams and Maladaptive Daydreams. i dont have Maladaptive Daydreams anymore and i miss that because it was like writing a novel without even typing it on my laptop, but is that dangerous to go maladaptive? or did'nt i never had Maladaptive Daydream but i'm just looking too much up for this? i loved to daydream, then i wrote stories, now i'm addicted to my phone and never take my time to daydream again, constantly busy, afraid of boredom so i have no time to Daydream (or Maladaptive daydream) or mindwander. If its actually good to be a Maladaptive Daydreamer, is this something you recommend or is normal daydreaming (or even just mindwandering) about enough and even healthier? i dont even know if i was maladaptive or just bored, but now i'm scared of boredom and never mindwander. its that dam phone, you're right, the phone is bad. but good video nonetheless. the other tips are also great to try, but i hate meditation because its boring so Mindfullness in the woods can be good enough. i heard that walking barefeeted is very good to ground yourself with nature but i dont know if that will help to strengthen my dreams (lucid and non lucid) and i also think, if somebody sees me walk without shoes and sock (barefeeted) they would laugh or look at me funny.
Question: I listen to mostly metal music, and that helps my imagination go wild and insane, I am also able to do reality tests (nose pinch and digital watch) while in imagination (got the idea from your ai), is that ok or should I still listen to relaxing music and doesn't do much for me?
I'd switch to more mellow music. In the event you get lucid, the metal music can heighten your anxiety within a dream causing you to become so immersed in the dream you lose lucidity. ( I have listened to rap music while sleeping )
Im going to try the Hot bath for helping me set intention ! My mind is racing so much that i find myself not wven setting intentions to remember my dreams or remember to realize that im dreaming before bed ... like what ?
I heard listening to music before bed and I thought, "hey, that's what I already use TO put myself to sleep". Also, does listening to a certain instrument in a song and following it throughout the song help with lucid dreaming. That's also what I happen to do.
after 1 month of consistent trying despite sleeping at 5 am and waking at 9 then sleeping at 11 and waking at 4 .. i have recalled 2 or more dreams each sleep or 1 long dream and found a dream sign.. well 2 actually.. does that mean that my mind is good for lucid dreaming or it is just normal( bte fixing sleep today)
Hey Daniel. I want to practice WILD techniques but I do not always naturally wake up in an ideal time to try it out. I am thinking of purposefully waking up in the night by setting an intention to wake up in the night. Would doing this everyday (assuming it works everyday or most days) hurt my sleep? Or do awakenings in the night only hurt your sleep if you use an alarm?
I'd suggest, if possible, utilising morning naps instead. It's less disruptive and targets the prime period of REM. But yes, intention setting is a healthier way to experiment with sleep interruption, but do it on moderation :)
"Daydreaming is basically dreaming while awake but you want to be awake while dreaming." Wellp… I am really really good at daydreaming, but not so great at being awake while dreaming.
