I don’t know why people tend to have double standards with the “not all about speed” argument. With cars like the AE86 people give that response to why it doesn’t matter that it’s slow but with cars like the BRZ people act like the car needed to be faster and that “not all about speed” doesn’t apply to that car for some reason.
@@frizzvictor1535 the frs/brz/86 all had one problem. The Subaru motor. That torque dip was the one complaint that lasted for years, with only aftermarket options to fix it. And then with the newest generation they hardly flattened out that dip.
Man you'd go crazy if you saw my 86 in the early 2010's. Red panda GTS hatch, all stock, interior red panels all clean, no cracks on dash, fully functional AC. That was my first car, my favorite car. Unfortunately around 2013 I went through some rough financial times and had no choice but to sell it... I sold it for $5500. Shoot me. Today I make decent money, I have a GT86 to daily and a custom built turbo MRS (10s car) for fun. I've driven s2000s, STIs, every gen MR2, Corvettes, you name it. To this day nothing compares, I would give anything to be in my old 86 banging gears with the TVIS activated engine screaming feeling like a bat out of hell as a prius gently passes me.
Dang man that was a perfect car! Theres no other car that’s so fun but also so slow😂. I’ve also got a turbo 1zz MRS. It’s another amazing car but it not even close to the 86 for me.
My biggest complaint about my ae86 Everyone in my life wants me to sell it. Ive had this car for nearly 20 years. Bought my GTS for just over 2 grand (and that was "oh man, theyre starting to get expensive". damn drift tax). Now it seems theyre pushing 20-30~ in good condition. My fiance / family / friends / etc insist all the time oh man, sell it- you can make so much on it. Why dont you sell it. Think of what you could do with all that money. Didnt buy the car to make a profit. Never going to sell it. Stop asking.
i get the constant: "You should put an LS in it!" "Put a 1UZ in it..." "My friend has a ____ engine in one" To me, being able to wind a 4AGE to high RPM and listening to the sound is 75% of the experience! It's ok to be slow.. just enjoy!
The worst part is, The AE86 isn't made for American road. It's made for Japanese road that were narrow and small. It's considered "slow-ass" In America because American road is too damn big and just long straight without end. Those big n wide road is only unique in America. It's also the case with many JDM like Subaru WRX, Miata, GT86/BRZ, and other 1600cc-2000cc Japanese cars. Those cars were considered slow in USA without mods, it's not in Japan. But those cars handle very good in those japanese road because it has proper balance and it can go way faster than traffic while still easy to control since it's not too powerful. Too powerful car that went above 200hp is quite hard to control in Japanese road.
Some of my friends asked me if i would ever get another one. I tell them "I love them, but not at these prices". I've had 4 of them, but that's when they were under $2000 in pristine condition. Those days are loooooong gone.
I'm sorry, I can't abide the prius comment. Lots of AE86 have the beams engine which doesn't scream through the gears to get to speed, but the 86 never boasted speed. If you watched Initial D the only benefit the car had over all the others was the drivers understanding of inertial drift especially on the downhill. The 86 was about balance and handling, and I doubt prius ever challenged the 86 on the touge.
I stopped chasing speed and went after driving excitement. 300hp minivans and Camrys will smoke me on a straight any day but my ae82 is still the most thrilling car I have ever driven.
I hate how most ae86 owners wont recognize or admit that initial D had an impact on them on their decision of buying an ae86. it really doesnt matter but why straiggt up deny it?
I don't have one of these but I have owned a BRZ since 2017 and gotten an Gr86 this last year. I had no idea initial D or the ae86 was a thing until 2 years ago. I gotta admit after the show I do really want one but I also still think i want the car because it represents the underpowered fun car like the miata
Because a lot of the OGs that were rockin corollas before intial D came out are salty all the anime fan boys came into the scene and drove prices up…. They shame the fanboys and as a reaction the fanboys deny the initial d influence…. Thats what ive seen in the CA bay area anyways
Agree with the hate for the community. And I'm talking about the ones who have only in the last 5-10 years gotten into this car. The the people I know personally with an AE86 have had the car before then are cool, knowledgeable and friendly. It's this new generation who are inflating the prices, either for the cars complete or for parts.
My twins would probably eat that prius for lunch, my red kouki 86 have a 20v black top engine, and my white zenki 85 have a sr20dett wich is pretty scary and speeds like a bat out of hell...
@@hakosan86 I hope to own one one day I'll follow your channel so I can experience the car....If you're in Texas I hope to meet you and the car at a show or something.
You able to put like a classic industries AC on these? At least the interior part, then get like a 2000s Corolla compressor. Will it look hokey? Sure, but will you be cool? Yes ❄️
1 more small thing about the "vins" on these cars, ae86, ae88, etc. Theyre not "ae86s" because of the vin. Ae86 doesnt refer to the "vin", it refers to the *chassis* of the car. Whether its an Sr5 or GTS in the states, both have "ae86" stamped onto the firewall chassis because theyre both ae86s.
My 86 originally didn't come with AC and I added factory AC in but run R134a freon. AC isn't that great though. Above 95f you're better off just rolling down the window. 😢
completley agree on the pices of parts, everything is super expensive, when my fenders got ruined i had to resort to wide fenders because oem resellers were out of the question, ive had to resort to replica parts because oem or aftermarket is too expensive, i love my ae86, hate the market
Things i really love about this car: 1. I don't own one Things i really hate about this car: 2.By the time im old enough to afford one, they'd be over 50 years old and probably extinct, the remaining ones will be with collectors and it'd be too rare and precious to be used as an everyday drive car and would be better off in a collector's garage than the dangerous roads.
@@hakosan86 more power to ya. You got to build it the way you wanted. I thought about going 4age on mine but decided on a 1.8 liter 3TC instead. Larger displacement and cost effective. Interior was mint so I just swapped to GTS seats. So many engine swap possibilities out there for these that unless you keeping it stock, the GTS/SR5 argument is pointless.
I own a coupe, #1 thing i hate is when people say oh it doesnt have a hatch like the one in inital D so its not really a ae86. Oh yea? Well what is it then a fox body with pop up headlights?
Ah damn dude, this is a heartbreaking watch. I'd love to have one as a daily- no drifting, just a reasonable sound system, ac and heat. But the more I look into it, the worse it seems to turn out. Seems like folks have just slammed this thing on it's nuts. You think there's hope to get one in decent shape in the next 2-3 years?
people just care about speed especially those supra kids its a classic car the 4AGE engine is nice especially the high rpm u can take it to 11000 rpm which sounds so good
what i hate most is the price. Yeah it is a cool car that is true. But definitely not 15000 euro + cool, even saw them for 25000 euro. That is also the reason why my interest in jdm cars gone away.
1- tranny is going out and I bought a nice running WRX for less than the tranny repair. 2- 1st gear doesn't let you in until nearly stopped and supposedly that's how it is. 3-Headlights are not bright compared to new cars and no longer pop up. Heater, defroster, fan are museum level. 4- door pull pocket is right where my elbow sits. It's sharp cracked hard plastic edges are annoying to say the least. 80 bucks for something we can 3d print for a dollar. Rare drivers seat has a width adjustment knob that bangs my right elbow right in the funny bone...hard. I'm gonna take a hacksaw to it and it's rare. 5- LSD was shot and just doing research was a pain. Torsen, clutch type, lock up levels, brands and into ring gears and ratios. 6- sounding fast when you are not annoys the neighbors and law enforcement. 7- everyone wants a piece of the action. It's like being the fastest gun in the West but you just wanted to go to the store. 8- made out of origami with zero crash protection. 9- gotta drive in traffic with a car that should be in a museum. 10- it made the faster WRX seem ho hum somehow.
"5- LSD was shot and just doing research was a pain. Torsen, clutch type, lock up levels, brands and into ring gears and ratios." Stock LSD in the ae86s are crap. Some people erroneously insist theyre "1 way", or "2 way" or whatever. Theyre not "any" way LSDs. Though if you "had" to pick, theyre closest to a "2 way", but the reality is theyre simply not that kind of LSD. "Whatever-way" LSDs refer to a type of clutch LSD that has a cam/ramp set up, where accelerating or decelerating drives a cam into a set of ramps, driving the clutches together, causing the wheels to lock up. The stock ae86 lsd doesnt have any cam/pinion set up. The tension in the comes partially from how the plates are stacked, but predominantly from a set of springs inside pushing the clutches together at all times (which is why theyre "kinda" like a 2 way, as they have the same lock up on accel or decel. But to be more specific: it has the same lock up at all times). If youre going to do something to the LSD, go aftermarket. Do *not* go with a torsen. Torsen are relatively poo' when it comes to solid axle rear ends. Get a clutch lsd. Cusco, tomei, TRD, whatever. either a 1.5 or 2 way. 1.5 are a smidge "easier" to use without having some notable understeer on corner entry, 2 ways are what pretty much everyone drifting or racing use however (Of course thats a rule of thumb. youll always find exceptions). How much "lock up" will depend on if you want to drift, or race the thing.
out of curiosity does anyone know how somebody could go bout getting a dash remade- ive got a 3d model of both a RHD and LHD one and would love to start getting it popped out into production
That’s the only thing I hate about my 86 is no ac. Black car black interior. I sweat more in that than I do in my 67 Chevy without ac. I do hate the fanboys though. They think they know shit about my car but will start rattling off these “facts” they got from initial D or whatever article written by a jaded 27 year old. Sure, I’m 20k deep in a car that is isn’t “fast” but it’s sure as hell the most fun I’ve had in. A car. I’ve had plenty of faster cars but it’s nice to be able to bang gears without getting a felony. My gti was 400 whp and it got me in trouble and my ss Camaro was the same. My 67 Chevy makes 500 whp and it does nothing but smoke tires but when it hooks it’s just scary. It’s rickety and has more power than it should. The 86 is fun and I can keep up with some of my buddies with faster cars on tight back roads because they can’t use all that power. Sure whenever we hit a straight they leave me but tighter roads I can hang with them
Atleast theres an aftermarket Looks At Aw11 With Watery Eyes (I know bout Twos r us And Prime Mr2 Etc) I Want OEM.......With Those Parts I Bet they found Those In Storage....New Old Stock. As For Speed Ya It Only Feels And Sounds Fast......Looks Over At a Hyundai Accent Passing By.......AC lol Mine Leaked Out Again This Time From The Shrader Valve in My Frunk.....
@@hakosan86 Whats Wrong With Yours?? For Mine Its Like I'm Replacing Seals thankfully no hoses yet at first it was the seals in the heater core, than my AC Compressor Leaked and now its The Shrader valve SIgh Its A Process I wish i knew how to fix it myself......atleast Rebuilt Denso Compressors still around!!
The heritage program for the AE86 sucks! I bought Panic Made kouki lsd axles for like $700 and some change vs the $450 or so each for heritage axles. They want $1,050 per front caliper, too. I just paid $840 or so, and got the BGRS Wilwood kit on their 8-6 day sale. It's bullshit! To hate their heritage program has nothing to do with the car, really. It's just what GR offers for the Corolla. It's been stated by you and I that there's cheaper and better options compared to the crap they're offering.
just give me the car and u will receive less car fair deal in my humble opinion I just want a car like the ae86 why dont they make cars like that no more I swear
