Thank you girl for being who you are in the foreign country. Humanity or Ubuntu describe our nature, our culture and our strongest South African unity. Thank you for sharing your foreign experience with us😂❤
I lived in SK for 4 years, and I totally get what you mean about lack of "community"! I personally think it's difficult to integrate because the whole country shares one religion/race/language/culture etc, and it can be hard to assimilate to that as a foreigner. I don't think it comes from a bad place, but I do think a lot of Korean people assume foreigners are here for a year or two and there a huge disconnect between cultures so why bother, you know?
Hi Mikki. You presented this beautifully. I was sad to hear about the hierarchy treatment because if you think about it, perhaps someone from America might be valued because they come from a more privileged life but South Africans should be respected because they have learnt the art of survival AND appreciation for what they have. They can get through difficult times and come out stronger. South African people who are respectful and hard working, should be respected and valued.
So true! But I blame western media. Africa is often portrayed in a way that is backward, poor and uncivilized. And for most people who do have travel, that is the image that they have of Africa. However, at some point people also have to educate themselves beyond what they see in the media so there’s also that. Otherwise I agree with you 100%, everyone, not just just South Africans, should be respected and valued.
That seems interesting about how you view their community. I'm America to me when i look into their culture i see them as very communal based. To me the states is ultra individual based. I even think our families are individual based too. Like we can focus on our own individual life and not even know what's going on with our siblings. Was interesting to hear your view point 👍🏻
Hey dear Mikki, I have another very important question to ask you...I just checked the currency convertibility rate between your South African Rand and South Korean Won and it shows that your currency is stronger than won, so I was thinking that in real figures how much do you earn in absolute terms?? Please tell because financial reasons are equally important.
Thanks Mikki for letting us know of those people's culture in real life. All I know is K-drama and how successful the country is. I wish you a happy and comfortable life over there, beautiful experiences. Stay blessed and safe❤
We have 5 days off in summer and 5 days off in winter. I don’t think it’s enough that’s why it feels like nothing. And you can always talk to your school if you want to go home but it has to be at the end of your contract.
