Heads up Display and the front facing camera are options. It looks like you went for the base package and are not completely happy with your decision. Not having the touch screen is one of the reasons i love my Audi's. The next remake will have the touch screens. All Audis are now moving to a touch screen. IMO they are a distraction and are dangerous as it takes your eyes off the road.
It was a used car, I didn't spec it all out. I have a scroll wheel in my car and I like it in my Q5, I'd probably prefer it over the touch screens. I hate the finger prints too.
The onoy thing that annoyd me about the Q5 2018 is when coming to a stop, it has a tiny little stutter on the transmission. Only way around it is to come to a more abrupt stop
It's simply a design feature. No exhaust for you! ... lol Doesn't bother me at all. My 2021 Passat had them and only 1 muffler and out put behind the bumper.
@@GemmyDonCars I know it doesn't block anything but it looks like is right on the view. I own 2014 TDI since new. Best car ever nothing broke not even a light bulb burnt and screen is built inside. Etron 2018 has that screen hiden inside
@@GemmyDonCars I'd take your Audi over any Toyota, Dan (except for the Supra, 2020 Hylander & my fav the Land Cruiser!), even though Scot Kilmer swears by Toyota for its dependability (especially compared to German counterparts). Toyota has had a reputation for being too vanilla. Toyota's in the process of trying to change their brand to becoming more sportier so as to capture the attention of younger demographics.
I am fine with the Q5 with fake exhaust, because I have a S5 as well, (My Wife has the Q5) those tips get black carbon build up all the time, if they are not chrome, I wont be bother, but I have to clean them every car wash, and its a pain.. The SQ5 exhaust sounds very nice and with them being hidden, you dont have to clean them all the time. I am fine with fake exhaust if it still sound good. Its not expensive to purchase aftermarket tips when you upgrade your exhaust later. 2. HUD wise, its OK, because the VC (Virtual Cockpit) made up for it 100% I hated the Mazda HUD that project on a flimsy plastic. The only thing I say about the VC is its too bright at night. 3. No touch screen. Coming from a S5, I am used to the MMI control, I like the non touch screen setup so that my screen wont cover with finger prints, just like the exhaust tips I have to clean them often (Im OCD like that). I can see people who came from Touch Screen Infotainment will complain with lacking the feature. 4. What was 4? oh Front facing cam.. That feature is pretty much useless unless you love to go off road and Rock Climb (which the Q5 is not made for). if you are worry about hitting the front bumper. The Sonar parking sensor is available for that reason. 5. Funny Gas Paddle feel which is a by product of a DCT. the feeling of the Transmission can varies. But I would not worry about it when the Q5 shifts like a Porsche. Oh I am from Camp Hill PA.. Hello neighbor.
It doesn't have fake exhaust, just doesn't have chrome exhaust tips. Perfect, one less thing to clean! 85% of the general public will never notice the exhaust. Buy a 2020 and get your touchscreen, spend the extra money and get a prestige for the hud. My gas pedal feels fine.
Gas pedal kicks every time ca 10mph its normal. Some system activation. I hate trunk cover sliding mechanism and scratched around it. When the trunk is full it is really hard to close and hide what is inside. Try it at night... Why all of the US Q5s has got fake headlights washers? European has got washer system there... Interior storage is the problem too. Wireless charging plate is in terrible location you have to choose cap holder or access to the armrest storage. What else... Oh, the front license plate bracket for US rattles! All of the Q5 2018 - has got it! How is it possible that audi NA missed that?! I asked dealer to fix it and its ok now. One more thing is headlights status icon missing on digital cluster. A4 has it. It should be upgrated. I have to double check the lights when its raining. And... When you press MENU it goes to drive select, why? We have other buttons for it... Prestige is superb, but has got some issues as well. For example Line keeping assist is a nightmare. I love that car is in a middle of the lane, but have alarms and notification every 2 minutes. Sometimes even faster. On the highway its alerts passengers! In prestige I wish to have matrix lights and cool/warm front cup holders. And of course headlights washer system! I have to upgrade these one day:) The last thing is you can't close tailgate from inside or remote, why?! In other SUVs its possible... BTW, standard wheel alignment for Q5 with LKA and ACC is $600-$700 and is should be done every year... I also wanted to purchase cargo safety net or divider to seperate and secure during some transportation of bigger loads but... Guess what... Is it not available! So why there are holes for it in the headliner?
I've always found that buying a vehicle mid-product cycle is frustrating. What I mean is that there will always be newer vehicles which showcase the latest technologies that Audi have developed and you'll be left wondering why it hasn't made it into your vehicle. In your case the new Q5 was released in 2017 and will be updated again later in 2020. The 3D camera system on the e-Tron, Q8 and A8 will eventually trickle down as an option into the Q5 but you would have to wait until the next product cycle. As for the heads-up display you have to realise that premium badge cars are all about upgrades; only the A8 comes with a heads-up display as standard. If you want it you will need to add and pay for it. This is not something that is unique to Audi or even German cars - even a $100k Range Rover Vogue will come without adaptive cruise control or a heads-up display. You might ask why they do this? The answer is simple - they know you will pay! With all that said, if you've got virtual cockpit I don't think a heads-up display is necessary.
I have never driven or owned an Audi, cool looking cars though. And I might add the inside of that car is quite sexy and sleek. I'm not as cool I own a Chevy Equinox lol
I own this car and really like it however there is one thing that irks me. Why can I not see the tire pressure on the display. I own a 2016 BMW and I can readily see the tire pressure on each of my tires to the tenth of a PSI. Hell, I own a 2006 Infiniti M35X and it contains this feature. Audi will only let you know that one of your tires is low on air after the fact.
Front facing cameras are unnecessary because most people have the mark 1 eyeball plus sensors. Talk about wanting to be pampered and having unrealistic expectations
Hey, I have the exact same car. Are u talking about the lag and weak feeling on the gas pedal? I hear a tick noise too, sometimes. This doesn't happen everytime.
Kapish sharma The noise I hear when you first start at under 10 mph I think is the AWD de-coupling and then I don’t think it does anything else unless you need traction for some reason. I think my service guy told me this. It’s a weird feeling, it’s like I feel like I almost need to press a little too hard before it does anything.
I hear clicking noise too. Sometimes I drop it down into sport mode when taking off then back into eco once i get going. It's just a tap down on the gear for each change
I do love the nimble handling and quick acceleration, but what I hate is the lack of useable storage (tiny glove box and console storage and no sunglasses hideaway). Even worse is the tray that either covers your drink holders or your console storage. It’s always in the way of something. And I hate that you have to take apart the whole back of the car and reprogram the computer to install a trailer hitch. No more $300 hitch install at the local UHaul for your bike rack. And the price gouging for service. $950 for a 40,000 mile checkup that is basically just oil, brake fluid, and ATF fluid changes?! I’ll be going back to Toyota or Acura for my next car.
I recently test drove an Audi Q5 Progressiv 2018 and also Audi Q5 Progressiv 2019. When starting from 0 kmph to 30/40 kmph, it felt a bit weird on the gas pedal. It felt like I am pressing the pedal, and its taking its own time to start and take off.
Thank you for your video. HUD and front facing camera are a part of Prestige package. You can also get lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and warm weather package that is optional for Prestige and gives you ventilated seats. I hated the fake exhaust tips until I got my Q5. Maybe they don't look the greatest but they are always clean and you will never see exhaust soot on them. I drive a lot and I was getting a lot of soot buildup in my previous cars and sometimes I had to wiped the exhaust off between the car washes so it doesn't bake onto the surface. So I take it as a plus. I agree with your issue/behavior when accelerating. I just got used to it.
I have the prestige model and it comes with exactly what ya want on it-- minus REAL exhaust tips. I THINK your issue with the accelerator ( I KNOW you shouldn't have to) is put it in S... It feels to me that the DSG engages differently (clamps- harder?? sooner?? ) ALL that and still love the car/truck!!
Appreciate your honesty, and agree that a car that costs that much should be a little better equipped. I guess you should have ponied up for a higher trim level. Best of luck to you.
I have the prestige package-- comes with heads up display and speed limit sign recognition--- Took ME awhile to figure out I would be going a LIL over speed limit and come to a slower speed limit sign and the car would BRAKE to get to new speed AND change the cruise control speed to match !! On the adaptive cruise too -- IF you come to a sloping turn-- the car will SLOW down!! I assume to make sure you are safely going to make it. Lastly-- I don't mind NOT having touch screen-- EXACTLY why when you said-- I won't touch it to avoid FINGERPRINTS!!
I have a 2018 Q5, fake pipe is so no Carbon buildup Cuz your Q5 will look Awful !!! I saw a 2017 Q5 the Tailpipe had all the build-up of carbon it look like shit.
#1, fake exhaust tips (agreed) #2. Lack of touch screen (agreed), believe the design language was to not touch and smudge the screen. Audi listened to customer complaints and added touch screen to new models during the new revision years. The rest is normal. The weird peddle feel is because your Q5 is a dual clutch. The lack of front camera, top down camera and heads up display is simply because you did not buy the Prestige model which would have included, front camera, heads up display as well as top camera parking display. Your Mazda may have a heads up display however, do you love the Mazda, are the materials used the as of the same quality, is the Mazda as comfortable to drive, or as fun to drive? Premium options in premium cars cost more period.
I am based in Scotland, and have the 2018 Q5 TDI model and can relate to the pedal issue!! seems a common 'fault'!! no big deal but there is a kind of lag or clunky motion when you first put your foot on the accelerator. What makes it more annoying is it's not all the time!!
I have same Audi Q5 model , I do get the pedal noise on every start once I reach 40k/hr . Does everyone facing same issue? Is this issue or some Audi setting I am not sure?
Stupid and unintelligent "test". What should ppl do with a front camera when you have sensors? Hello?? A heads up display is possible to buy. An Audi is way better in interior quality than any other car at the American market so to pay a little extra for a hud is pocket money.
Personally I dont like where the reverse lights are. If Im walking behind a car in a parking lot on my way to/from a store, lets say, the 1st thing I look at is "is this car backing out? Just bad positioning. Thats my unsolicited two-cents.
Fun review. As title states, “Things I Hate…), is personal, so not everyone will agree. I did read an article which spoke about the exhaust and it was one of the designers answering. He stated, the Q5 was focussed on European “female” purchase and focus group complained about dirt, exhaust on their dresses, coats when gaining entry to the rear”, thus the hidden exhaust”. They felt men would prefer the SQ5 for power and outside exhaust available. Sounded a bit weak, but plausible.
This was my dream car until I went to test drive it. This is overall worse than an Acura RDX. The turbo lag is noticeable and start stop is way too aggressive. Plus back seat bump is too high and overall car has cheap feeling. I’m actually confused now why people buy this car at all
I preferred the general feel of the Q5 cockpit over the RDX which reminded me of a Santa Fe. The drive knob is too much of a central focus. The Q5 has a more classic feel which I believe is more calming and will hold up better with time than the futuristic RDX. Also the overall exterior view of the RDX bothers me
Hey, just found your channel. My wife and I are local as well! I had no idea you were in Mechanicsburg, I was just looking for 2018 Q5 videos and yours popped up. How funny! We owned a 2011, sold it 4 years ago and she's looking to get another one. I want to stick with 2018 and up, to have Android Auto. Might want to consider 2019 with a couple of the comments you made. I'll see what I can find!
@@GemmyDonCars I just bought this car a month ago and there is a small/slight hesitation feeling pushing the pedal from a stop position. I had an A4 before this car and that car didn't have it. Is that what you are talking about? I was going to take it to the dealer, but if it is a normal feeling, I won't bother. Also, I like the map display in the virtual cockpit as well but I have to re-input it every time I turn the car on. Is there a way to have that display be the default so I don't need to change it every time? I also have to push that red engine button every time I start the car so my car won't "shut off" at every red light. Not crazy about that either. So many things to get used to!!! I love the car though..Thanks for the video.
I just got a 2020 and I agree with everyone. I've had HUD on my Q7 and I don't like it too bright Also the seats are hard on the Q5. I also don't like the sunshade it lets in too much light. Mine has like a temporary shutter getting on the gas at low speed dealer said it was typical of 4cyl
Thanks, Jim, you know everything I'm talking about. The sun shade is pretty big, but you can stop it halfway if you want, but sometimes that doesn't help. Is there a reason you got a 2020 as opposed to waiting for the refresh for 2021?
GemmyD on Cars I have a three year lease. Once the lease is up the refresh will be into its second year so many bugs should be worked out. My 2017 Q7 was built in May of 2016 and had a ton of recalls and glitches that were worked out in later production runs. I also expect that some options on 2021 will become standard equipment on the 2023 Q5.
You're a Ben Hardy subscriber I'm venturing to guess. I hate that my 2013 Acura RDX doesn't have any exhaust tips either, not even fake ones! The 2019 RDX has Great Big pipes! Speaking of the RDX, have you had a chance to view it's interior? Far superior to your Audi, (Sorry, I know you said to withhold negative comments regarding your Audi), but it is designed after the NSX & is futuristic. Another vehicle that I recently saw reviewed was the 2020 MB GLC, pretty cool as well. I know your Audi is a year or two older than the aforementioned vehicles but your vehicle seems like 5 yrs behind as far as tech & design is concerned.
Here u go. My gripes about my 2019 Audi Q5. 1) The climate control. Fan setting 3 and 4 is just too much of a leap in blower strength. And the cooling just doesnt feel that refreshing. And thats saying something since we live in a cooler climate of Canada. Hard to explain why. Maybe the vent positions? The Audi compressor? 2) The auto engine shut off. There is just too much of a delay when trying to get the car back going up to speed at a red light. 3) The automatic emergency back up brake sensor. It constantly misreads garbage cans and activates the emergency brakes when backing up. Sometimes even when there is nothing even around! The sound it makes is horrible noise when it does activate. 3) NOT ENOUGH STORAGE SPACE in the front. 4) the cupholders arent big enough. and rear seat cupholders are tiny and are so overly complicated as well. 5) no way for shorter people close the rear lift gate. my kids and shorter adults arent able to close it because the ONLY way to close it is by pressing a button high above on the rear door. that is one engineering flaw if you ask me. 6) Android MMI Interface. I dont know if this is an Audi issue. Android issue. or My phone. Its just awful.
1. I honestly don't use the blower at level 3 or 4 very much, so I can't speak to that. 2. I don't mind the stop/start tech, but my wife hates it. I did drive a newer 2020 Q3 and the engine came back to live SO much faster than in this car, so I think the technology has improved since this car was built in 2017. 3. It would be nice to have a net on the right side of the center stack for more storage, but it hasn't been an issue for me. 4. I agree with you about the cup holders, I wish they were bigger. 5. I also agree with the liftgate. My wife is 5'5, so she's been ok, but I could see how that would be annoying. 6. I'm an Apple guy, can't speak to Android. Sorry to hear that it sucks! Thanks for the comment.
I'm not sure what year audi you have but in mine, I found out that I can close the rear hatch from inside the car, as long as the car is on, by pulling back on and holding the trunk release button on the driver's side door. Not sure if this helps you or shorter people that need to use the car!
@@lizc731 oh. ill give it a try next time! but my son recently discovered that u can shut the lift gate by waving your foot under the bumper as well. (i thought it was only to open)
@@unplugged123 oh no way?! I will have to try that. Would be nice sometimes not to have to reach up and press the button. Haha first world problems tho, I know.
I went from the previous Q5 to this one. Initially I shunned it due to the hard plastic on the side of the center console which made planting my leg uncomfortable. But I wouldn’t trade the dial for the touchscreen. I don’t enjoy touchscreens for a car for safety reasons. I feel that Audi felt pressured by others to add it to the facelift, which I personally detest. But I hate the fake exhaust tips too. 100%. Laughable.
I prefer the “faux” exhaust tips...saves from carbon build up (and honesty, most people never shine them up or even remove the carbon, hence, chrome exhaust turned black and stained)...and one less thing to shine up. ❤️👍🏻
60k miles on mine with no issues. It’s been very reliable, change the oil every 5k miles instead of the recommended 10k for the peace of mind. I do all the maintenance myself, it’s easier than most cars.
