I couldn’t afford one so I picked up an MT-09. Was obsessed with it, especially the 2023 FTR 1200 S model, which has the exact same tires as the R6 I just sold. Couldn’t ride sport bikes anymore and wanted something upright sitting (with good hp AND torque) so these bikes fit the feel, size, sport category style and power which saves me from going to a heavy low hp cruiser. I was shocked to hear that the paint peels especially after knowing it was $4000 more than my MT-09. Dad always wanted a Harley before he passed but the 70s/80s HD’s were different. My go to in his memory is this. Now I just have to remember it’s jerky at high rpm and paint peels. I’m in NB, Canada and could tell from the accent and the bridges in the background where this was filmed haha! Awesome video! Agreed. Ryan F9’s video on it was great! +Glad to hear the windscreen helps! Had to add one to my MT-09. I’m used to the cockpit feel with R1 and R6 windscreens! Glad you didn’t hold back on what you didn’t like!

Hmm, I used to have the FTR 1200 S Race Replica. First model out in 2019. I sold it 3 years later. That was a first for me as I still have bikes from 2011, 2014 and 2018 in my garage. To be honest the FTR is a great bike from the fun perspective, for its look and the feelings it gave. But two times having to change the fork seals, for the need to change the dashboard, for the electronic reset, and for the rusting of almost all the screws, that was enough. The killing blow was the way the dealership handled it, made me run away. Sorry to see that the current model still has annoying glitches.

Great review and all issues that should be known. I love my FTR, but those issues are why I opted for a base model 2022 instead of the S. TFT was slow and much uglier back then. Absence of a quick shifter and cheap feeling hand controls are a bit easier to swallow at the base price as well, even though you did lose out on rider modes and traction control. One more point to add, even though its probably well known at this point, is how much of a pain it is to refuel this thing. Because the fuel tank sits under the seat, it has to run through a funnel that chokes up if you pump too fast. So I've found myself having to hold the pump at like 10% pressure. That, coupled with the frankly tiny fuel capacity means you'll be very well acquainted with this issue.

That indeed is a great point to add

Thank you for the key pointers. I think even Chase on 2 Wheels faced the erratic throttling issue. So it's probably not just your bike. Although from the little I've read, I think people recommend some sort of tune up to the ride by wire algorithm.

Hey brother, (I am the one who shot the vids), The wide sitting shots were shot using a Panasonic S5 with a 35mm 1.8 lens. The B-roll shots were shot with a Fujifilm XS-20 with a 23mm F1.4 lens!

Yea my 2019 FTR-S has the same throttle issue. Doesn’t like to cruise at certain constant speeds. 😅

None of these things are true aside from a lack of quickshifter. Maybe you have a lemon. My FTR has none of these issues.

The surging at constant speed is a very well known and common problem and the only way to fix it is with a tune. The factory tune is very lean to accommodate EU emission standards. I have a 22 champ edition and the surging was very annoying. I have since gotten a lloydz v6 tune and toce race pipes, rides like a dream now.

I have no issue with shifting on my 22 ftr and the speed issue might be resolved wif a tune tho i didnt have that wif mine when it was stock. maybe adjust the chain slack?

Tune everything is my motto, I plan to get an FTR later this spring, and already have the tuner I'm getting bookmarked.
