I know a lot of people compare the BRZ to the MX5 but frankly you are getting a more dedicated sportscar (less practicality) AND a convertible for a bit more money. I dont think it is fair to the Miata. Because theres just no comparison for light weight. Mazda could have lengthened the car an added 2 more back seats and more trunk space.....but to the detriment of driving pleasure which they dont want to sacrifice. The 10 mpg extra and bulletproof reliability is a bonus.
@@andycalifornia426 Exactly. Ive read the BRZ also has oil consumption issues because they use a 0w20. In fact oil consumption is mentioned in the Subaru manual and is considered normal. All just to meet EPA ratings at the cost of overall reliability. The Miata uses a 5w30 after making less horsepower AND being lighter......go figure.......😄

ND1 soft top Club owner here and this review is spot on. The only thing is that my car is ludicrously loud on the highway. Sometimes I really wish I’d given the RF a try. All this aside, bottom line on the MX-5 is that it’s engineered perfectly for its mission: peak driving fun on public roads.
@@fortheloveofnoise clearly, you’ve never driven a slammed RX-8 with a gutted cat and cheap straight-thru exhaust 3 hours on the highway to an autocross.
I just bought a new 23’ RF GT in the most magnificent color of Soul Red Crystal metallic a few weeks ago and I’m loving it! This is my fourth Miata. I’ve had a 1991, 2001, 2006’ and now this 2023’. I was 31 when I bought the first one and I’m 63 today so I’ve been driving them for decades now. Trust me when I tell ya that this fourth generation is hands down the pinnacle of all Miata’s. It’s so much more refined from all aspects. The quality and the workmanship of the car is in line with much more expensive cars and it’s simply a beautiful little car. The RF version with the retractable hardtop is just so friggen cool and much quieter with the top up. No more mildew cleaning of the soft tops or the need to replace them after years gone by. Ok, no it’s not a true drop top with the complete open air type convertible top but I’m fine with the Targa top. His dislikes are duly noted but you’ve gotta realize that it’s a tiny two seater roadster for folks who appreciate a drivers car which it truly is. I push mine into corners pretty hard and run the tach with probably the best the six speed gearbox out there. It’s really more like a 181 HP go-cart with a Miata body. If you’re looking for roominess in a car, a Miata is not it. I’m not a big dude so it suits me just fine. If anyone reading this is thinking about getting one, I promise you won’t regret it and remember me when you’re driving yours with that big grin on your face 😊.
I owned a ND1 Miata GT soft top and, at 6ft tall, I had zero issues with comfort in that car. In fact, I had more than an inch to spare above my head. That said, mine was a soft top, not the RF, and that makes a bit of a difference. The soft top is the better overall experience anyway, in my opinion, because it's way cheaper and you get the full open air experience. Also, I love the sound of this engine, especially the revised ND2 version.
I agree with you but I purchased an RF anyway because I love the styling of the RF and the easier maintenance of the top. Cloth will show the wear and tear after time especially if you keep it outside in extreme weather. The hardtop is way easier to clean and seems more solid on the road with top up. But as you say, it’s definitely not the total convertible experience, a so if I decide I rather have a soft top I’ll trade later. These cars are all a blast to drive and so affordable compared to a Boxster or Z4.
That's all true.. buuuut it's a soft top. If you're going to track the car then yes it only makes sense to get a soft top. Otherwise; it will look like trash in 3 years and absolutely annihilate your value. If you live in the LA or the city, someone will probably use that opportunity to break into your vehicle.
@@SupraSav Having owned a soft top Miata for 4 years and 40000 miles, I can say from experience that this is absolute nonsense. People who say this simply don't know how to care for a cloth top properly. You have to keep it clean and protected and there are plenty of excellent products available for this task. My car looked like new when I sold it, which is why I got top dollar for it. If you don't take care of it, of course, anything will look like crap in a few years.
Amazing review, my first ever video of yours! Thank you for the extreme clarity, explanations, cutting to the chase (no giant intro/outro), and treating your audience like adults. A+, subscribed instantly. 🎉🙏🏻
Solid review! You hit the nails on the head! I have same model and 14 months in it. The "surprise" positives: great headlights. (weird thing to notice, but tru). Solid Bose sound system. The "mainstream" positives: great shifter, great appearance, good economy, good steering. The biggest downfalls are the "friday afternoon engineering": The cockpit/driving position is terrible. It's cramped, and the steering wheel sits at your belly-button if you are 5'10" (the Avg height in US market), legs are also always cramped. Add to that the rearview mirror that is huge and from 1990, and you feel even more cramped. The interior has no storage, and the handling is fine until you push it, and then it falls apart. It produces "neutral" handling at speed, not by having extra front grip, but rather by making the rear unstable. The engine sounds like a lawn mower too. (my wife's description, not mine) LOL! The infotainment is a disaster and crashes all the time. I still enjoy the car tho. But I am on wait list to get either the BRZ or the manual supra and it looks like it will be years......
2020 GT owner here. 6' weighing in at 245. The space takes a bit to get used to. Also the infotainment once up is fine, and if u utilize the top 3 buttons really is better than ppl realize.
Thank you for your review. As a fellow owner of an MX5 GT RF, I find your comments interesting and reflect how the likes/dislikes are very personal. It is a given that the size of the Miata will impose some limitations that owners will have to live with, or not. It sounds like you have tested the car over only a limited time, so you likely don't have the benefit of living with it for an extended period and learned how to mitigate its "inconveniences". As a 5'10" 185 lb person, my Miata is a tight fit, but after some time of living with it I have found a set of seat and steering wheel settings that make it very comfortable to drive, even on 6-7 hour road trips. I disagree with your opinion about the lack of touch capability on the screen; yes Mazda could have done it but they have opted to prioritize safety over convenience and I agree with them. The small trunk is again a given with this type of vehicle and if you need to haul more luggage, you can purchase a luggage rack to attach to the top of the trunk. As for lack of engine noise, I think this is a personal and perhaps generational preference; I'm probably some thirty years older than you and can quite frankly do with less noise rather than more. Concerning the price, yes it is not cheap, but I find many Miata owners where I live (Canada) tend to be older/retired and own such a car for strictly summer fun driving. One of the advantages of the Miata that isn't mentioned by anyone is the fact that it is a convertible; the BRZ or GR86 simply aren't in the running if you want the open air experience. Cheers 🙂
Generally agree with your comments except about the touch screen. I personally think that using the rotating wheel is more distracting than the touch screen as it takes more time to scroll around. Apart from that it’s a fun car. 2021 sport mx5
@@brucebolduc3403 tbh I don't think manufacturers should be going for any kind of physical interaction at all. I have an nb1 and I've simply chopped a Bluetooth module and mic into the old tape deck line in, put in a good panavise phone mount and I do absolutely everything with voice commands, except volume which is the knob. I do the same Im all my other vehicles. I don't touch them at all, I just use voice. Don't know what folks are doing with their infotainment, all I do is tell it to play songs or playlists or navigate to . Dunno what else you'd need to do while driving.
@@brucebolduc3403 bit different when your car literally drives itself. Anyway, you still only need to tell it what temperature you want it to be, where you want to go, or what you want to listen to. If there's anything else you want to faff around with you should pull over and do it safely by the side of the road or just use voice commands. All this tech is just a substitute for a good passenger/codriver who does those things for you. Are turn signals, lights and wipers on the tablet in a Tesla as well? In car tech should be aimed specifically at ensuring the driver can keep both hands on the wheel, both eyes on the road, and free of distractions. Anything else is faffing/unnecessary/something you can pull over and do safely by the side of the road.
Nice review & agree with the points you made here. I have a 2016 Club soft top with the BBS wheels / Brembo brake package. Its been my daily drive for 5 years plus real winter driving in Northern Illinois winters. Overall its been a surprisingly good daily driver that added a fun factor only a select few cars can do. Most of those cars cost 3 or 4 times more though.
I owned an NC for 14 years and last year changed to a new ND. I think the hydraulic rack on the NC was better than the electric one in the ND, which feels less 'talkative' especially around the straight ahead position.
I have a 2020 RF and I'm getting around 40 mpg (highway miles). The trunk is very tiny but you have to adjust your expectations when shopping. My Costco shopping has definitely changed, limited to a few items but this thing is fun to drive and works well for me as a commuter vehicle.
On my 2016 model I get 30mpg city and 40+ mpg highway (when I use 87 octane). One con I have is the gas channel that the gas goes down into the tank has a narrow circumference so the pump will auto stop gas when it hits 9 gallons or so. I have to manually stand there and fill the other 2+ gallons up until it's almost up to the brim. Sometimes it's not worth the effort, but hey a few months ago on a road trip I went 485 miles on one tank of gas! You should also know that the vehicle has Apple car play and android auto, it's not wireless though and your phone has to be plugged into the top USB port- the one with the phone icon. I feel you though, Mazda's software is pretty garbo. Ironically I've daily'd mine for 2-3 years now and I'm 6' 1" and I fit quite snug, but since my arms sit higher than yours I don't have any of the issues with the center console as you do. Just hit 90,000 miles on mine and never had any issues. Just regular maintenance (other than some cosmetic dings and TLC things such as unclogging the soft top drains so the footwells don't flood)!
Nice feedback, Had my ‘17 RF LE 6 yrs and ❤ it. Agree with info system sluggishness and knob position, I hit knob a few time…trunk size being too small has been on all gens. Owned all for gens over 27 yrs, the trunk size is closer to NA minus spare tire which made NA had to fit anything. NB the spare under the trunk floor, but trunk was now very shallow, not deep. Cabin size wise is fine or better for me… 6ft 1inch no issues where on NA a bump, my head would hit the stop top. Exhaust Sound is perfect, you should drive a NA it was much louder with stock exhaust and road noise was bad due to lack of sound insulation and you have to crank the radio up loud, I be deaf in fairly quick in all generations, but sound insulation got better in later generation, NC engine sound like it pinged more and tan better on super unleaded and less tapping on the valves.
21 RF owner and I agree with most of your points. I think Mazda shied away from the cliche exhaust/engine drone and went for refinement. The RF is a super fun toy and an absolute perfect driving experience. For Costco runs I happily take my Raptor 😎.
@@chrisx5127 Dude, it's never a safe assumption. The percentage of people in America who are in insane debt just to own a vehicle as comically stupid as a Raptor is... staggeringly depressing.
Good video. I own a 2018 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth, which is about two-thirds similar to this ND MX-5. I agree with your Likes: excellent driving dynamics, premium quality look and feel, comfortable interior, solid architecture, decent ride, and excellent fuel economy, even when you drive it hard. With regards to your Dislikes, I agree that the Mazda infotainment system is frustrating to say the least. I'd go as far as to say that it is trash. The thing takes forever to connect, Bluetooth gets dropped regularly, every thing takes way too many clicks to accomplish --which becomes a distraction when you are driving. My 124 Spider uses the Abarth 1.4T engine, which sounds absolutely glorious, so I can't comment on the sound of the Mazda 2.0. I was surprised with your assessment of the interior, though. I am 6'0" and a 200 lbs: I fit perfectly. Getting in-and-out takes a little bit of doing, but once inside the car fits like a glove. I noticed you had the cupholder in place. I find that spot too constricting so I keep it mounted next to the passenger side of the console. Not having the cupholder back there opens up a precious elbow room when you are shifting and using the center knob. Finally, I don't find the trunk that small. I can carry 4-5 Trader Joe's grocery bags standing up, which is not shabby compared to the trunk in my 2001 NB...which barely big enough for a briefcase.
I’ve owned over 5 NA Miata’s and never once have I had a female passenger complain, they all love them! My biggest grip with the ND is the interior size being smaller than that of an NA!
Sorry but this is not true at all… am 6’1 and cant fit on a NA and my ND is like perfect any smaller and i wouldn’t fit, the interior design is on another level compared to the Na, its more comparable To my old NC
@@gigi9467 that heavily depends on your body type though (torso vs legs). I've seen other people that it is true for as well. When we had an ND I also felt like it had less room than the NA did, and I'm only 5'9".
I really like both the NA & NB designs, including the simplicity of the interiors. Due to their clean, straightforward designs these older Miata's age so gracefully. I don't care for the infotainment screen in the ND (or in general for that matter). Such systems are going to be outdated in no time at all.
@@ricepony33 Yes, this is why many older cars that were built before tech became a factor in vehicle design are still considered timeless today. For me, when it comes to sports cars the simpler the better. Others feel differently and that is largely why GT's came to exist.
I was originally planning on getting a GR86 as my next car but since moving back home I don't really need the space to carry around anything more than food and a friend. I been thinking about going for one of these instead but being in New York and it would be my only car, I'd have to get the hard top. It's about $4k more than a GR86 Premium which I could justify for the convertible tax, better feeling controls, lighter weight, and better gas mileage. I just need to make sure I can fit in one haha
@@username8644 I actually feel the opposite. I’ve only seen a nd in person once and it was from the back but I’ve seen the brz/gr86 in every color and the matte black plastic on the front and the back of the brz86 make it look cheap to me. The RF miata looks very exotic and much better from the side but im leaning towards the soft top for it’s ease of use
About the induction noise, you can get greater induction just by replacing the existing sound tube with marine exhaust tubing. VelocityGT has great videos on it. It sounds amazing, like classic VTEC and old 86's
I've watched numerous ND Miata videos and this is by far the best one. It's genuine, very informative and straight to the point! You have earned yourself a new sub. Also, are you in the Dublin / Pleasanton area in California?
Those cup holders actually can pop out and give you a lot of room for your elbow, making the infotainment controls a lot easier to use. Just pop ‘em in the glovebox
2019 MX-5 ND2 owner here. He hit a lot of good points, but I have a different opinion on some of the conclusions. He mentioned hitting the cup holders, having the car as a daily driver, and honestly when you do own and drive the car every day, it is way less of a concern. I have probably hit it maybe twice this year, but I generally know it's there and avoid it, I've found a comfortable driver position. I'd say that's more a problem for someone who owns the car as a second or third car, as you don't get as used to it. I immediately changed my exhaust, and I love the way the car sounds. Good win racing has exhausts that will excite anyone, and it's THE way to customize your experience. Infotainment sucks.... I have android auto, and on comparison TO EVERY OTHER CAR, I have trouble using all the features, and get SUPER frustrated with it, all the time, I have to scroll with the knob and go through 3 different menus to change the FM radio station while using Google maps... just let me use the touchscreen like a normal car. Comparing the MX-5 to the GR-86 or BRZ on price is a bit unfair but not entirely. First off, that car was co-developed by two massive car companies, whereas Mazda in comparison is quite small, and kills it with this car. Second, the GR-86 was JUST redesigned whereas this car is 7 years old and STILL kicks ass. Third, one of the things he didn't mention was ease of maintenance and reliability. The 86 still has oil starvation problems that both manufacturers are well aware of, and haven't engineered a solution for and having to take your engine out of the car to do spark plugs is inconvenient at best. The MX-5 is unreasonably simple to work on and you have a cavernous amount of space to fix or modify it however you'd like. Can't wait to see someone do an LS swap in one.
2020 100th Anniversary Soft Top for me. Love it. Manual is the only way to go in this car! One gripe is mine left the factory with the soft top defect where it rubs the back of the roll bar covers when open. Mazda replaced the top and covers and made adjustments but it still surprises me how it passed the quality check. Not very Japanese!
My Veloster N was T-boned and totaled in April, and while I wanted a BRZ they were still unobtanium at the time so I went with a 2020 ND RF and I couldn't be happier. I agree with all the points, both love and hate, that you bring up. A new exhaust mostly fixes the sound issues, but I would still like more induction noise (new exhaust does hurt the MPG though -- I can't help but rev it out always to hear it scream). Curious to hear what you thought about the "kinetic posture control" system in the 2022 that uses the breaks to combat the infamous ND lean. I'm adding coil overs as soon as the Miata is out of the shop (yeah, got rear ended after 3 months of ownership).
@@kr2426 LIttle quality of life things mostly. The auto rev match was great on the VN for someone who's still not great at heel+toe (even after 28 years of driving only manuals), and all the adjustability (valved exhaust, adjustable dampers) really made the N car tweakable to individual drivers (or moods). I'd like to say I don't miss the ~90 horsepower difference in the Miata, but all the Mazda's intangibles more than make up for it.
First thing I did when I got my Club convertible home was order Goodwin Racing Race exhaust for it. That solved the 'sound' issue. Now it's sounds more throaty and the car is way more fun to drive. As far as small trunk...Miata is a sports car, and a tiny one at that. It's made for the track, windy roads and leisure weekend drives. Of course it doesn't have a big trunk. Want trunk space? Get a Suburban. You don't buy a car like this then complain you can't get your 5 suitcases in it for a cross country trip. Your other complaints are valid as far as the infotainment system, knob placement, etc. But, that's what test drives are for. I have no regrets with mine. I bought it as the car is intended to be. A 2nd car that's meant for weekend fun in the sun on a windy road.
I own a 2020 RF GT and my only complaint is rattling noises in the interior. It has about 20k miles on it now so some trim isn't holding up too good. But when u got the AC on and/or music or the top down you don't hear the rattles so its a minor issue.
I know bringing up aftermarket parts is a rabbit hole, but I think Mazda should have equipped at least the Club spec with something akin to Konis with Sport springs. The stock Bilsteins just aren't doing any justice to that chassis and the 60's Roadster body roll novelty wears off quickly. I know the average buyer of ND2s is either at or deep into retirement, but what's what a more plush "Grand Touring" spec should be for. I have Fox coilovers on mine, and love them for aggressive street/mountains. Also,, I have to give Mazda a huge shoutout for NO REV HANG at all.
How's the road noise with the RF? I'm looking at this car in a serious way, but I regularly make road trips that are 1600+ miles and a lot of the time I'm going 75 to 80 mph. Current car is a 3rd gen Mazda3 and I absolutely adore it but I want something a little closer to legitimate sports car territory.
Yes you can do Costco runs, no problem. Last week I bought a package or toilet paper and a 4-pack of beer and it fit perfectly in my ND. I wanted a 6--pack instead of a 4-pack, but I didn't think it would fit.
Got a solution for TWO of your "4 things you hate"... (for starters) install Borla exhaust system... more power, better tune. Had one on my NC.... sweet!
I loved the ND Miata. I'm 6 foot tall and thought I fit just fine. My wife and I had it on vacation for a week. Just barely enough room for our luggage. My only complaint was the screen. I never used it - it's just in the way.
Owned a 2022 RF. I agree with your points good and bad. What'd I'd like to add. 1. Infotainment is hella slow. CarPlay even through USB is VERY laggy (1-2 seconds) 2. The weird shudder the car sometimes has around 15-20 MPH (others confirmed this too) 3. I only really did city driving so I had about 28-29 MPH The car isn't geared well for the highway and 75 MPH puts you around 3200 RPM which kills the mileage
I have a 2022 RS, the Aust equivalent of the Club. Im 5 ft 8 and if anything the seat is a touch low, certainly not high. Yes, you would have trouble if you were much over 6 feet, but I have a lot of headroom and have to move the seat forward. The touch screen is easily programmed to work whilst the car is moving, it’s in the settings. Here the MX5 is the same price as the BRZ/86. I was considering a BRZ but they are a lot heavier, about 550lbs. Also the Boxer engine has a bad reputation for cylinder head problems (400,000 recalled in 2019 and still problems), and the 2021 issues of sealant lodging in the oilways ending up with the current class action law suit. Too risky for me.
I've owned NB, NC, ND Soft top and now ND RF Grand touring.... love the car... 2 dislikes missed... info tainment on all versions has no weather application... would have liked that since I have the top down whenever I can and with my soft top I have been caught in a shower a couple of times. Not a big issue, but it takes more time with the RF to get the top up, so I tend to be more cautious about just dropping the top and going. Also, I don't love the drainage system as it is expensive to clear out and not for a beginner to do themselves unlike the soft top..
I really like the look of the Miata with the hardtop. It looks like a miniature Jaguar F-Type. Really cool car, IMO. My GF and I found one to test drive on Turo.
My 2017 RF Infotainment system has a mind of its own (screen keeps changing without my requesting it to do so, FAVORITES radio not remembered, USB-connected mp3 player cuts out after 2 minutes of playing). The dealer wants $200 for a firmware upgrade and $1,500 for a new CMU(?) if that does not work. Mazda USA was totally unsympathetic since it is out of warranty. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I'm 5'7 same weight but I fit just fine? Or it could be because I have a soft top GT. I've heard the soft tops are a little bit more roomy as for head room rather than the rf
Would love to hear your thoughts on interior road/tire/wind noise especially considering this is the RF. My guess is the BRZ would edge out if they were hypothetically on the exact same tire, but who knows! I'd also like to hear a little about your thoughts on the audio systems.
BRZ has lower road/tire noise but it's not a night and day difference in my opinion. Wind noise is still a slight problem with the RF at highway speed in windy conditions. Miata's sound system is easily better, but still sounds like a budget system.
If you also factor in that this is a convertible, the RF model is more of a targa when opened, and the RF pillars cause a HUGE increase in wind noise while driving it. So, comparing noise levels for the ND2 RF with the top up, with a BRZ, is really only valid if you never plan to put the top down. And if that’s what you’re going to do, BRZ all the way.
Acceptable NVH???? Wow, you had me up until this comment. My wife's ND1 (2019) RF GT with the GT-S package is incredibly loud compared to any other car I have driven! She downloaded a sound meter app for her phone and we routinely register 80+ decibels top up or down. To compare, my MY00 S2000 registers low to mid 70s WITH THE TOP DOWN!!! I agree with your comments on the new engine and shifter (try a counter sunk shift knob for a real comparison to the S2K!). About the only thing I would change is a shorter throw--counter sunk knob helped a lot with this and doesn't "void the warranty" which my wife will not allow me to do. I agree with pretty much every other point you make.
ND2 RF club owner here. I do sort of agree about the intake, and unfortunately there are no good aftermarket solutions as the stock intake is extremely efficient, and even well made aftermarket solutions don’t add much sound. I found on my RF that installing an HKS exhaust and removing the factory sound tube gave me a much nicer sound without being loud and obnoxious. A lot more character top down, but more pleasant top up as the sound tube tends to reverb in the cabin with everything closed. Also, I’m actually in NorCal right now Turoing a 22 RF GT and the infotainment is way slower and glitchier than on my car. Based on talking to other owners it seems some of the extra features of the GT can bog down the software. Simply removing the factory Nav SD speeds things up a lot.
@@kekethetoad my own car is a ‘21, so no KPC. I’ve left traction control on for the most part while driving the ‘22 here for safety. It’s a subtle difference. Unfortunately the only soft tops I’ve driven were early ND1s. Some with the non performance shocks, some with early Bilsteins (which are valved stiffer). I will say while the softtops to feel a bit lighter, I don’t think roll is that different comparing Bilstein vs Bilstein. I think people associate roll with bad performance but the ND is specifically designed to grip under roll. I’ve driven very hard out here the last couple days, and I’ve never had a problem with it. I think if you’re the kind of person who likes to integrate body motions and weight transfer into their driving, it’s actually both very fun and capable on the street. AutoX and track I would understand going stiffer, but most people have more luck with coilovers than sways. Sways can cause the car to be snappy especially in the rear.
Good tip about factory nav, I'll take out the SD card and see how it affects it. Thats my one major gripe with this car, but I've owned Mazdas for 6 years now, so I knew what I was getting into :)
You are right about the infotainment though it really sucks. My wife has a Kia Stinger and the infotainment is instant on and snappy fast. With the Miata it will be 30 seconds or sometimes even more before Apple car plays starts working. Stinger the second you plug in the phone apple car is there instantly.
Aygrene, isn't the only reviewer to complain about the trunk space, etc., however, it they were to review a Morgan Roadster at approximately $90k and up depending on the accessories, they may not come with a radio. None come with a trunk and I've heard no one complain about that. So! Mazda should raise the price to approximately $90K which would get rid of all the space complaints.
I wish there was more truck room or just more space in back in case of a rearend collision accident, even though I don't own one I wouldn't feel safe in one.
If you want a trunk look at my 1997 Honda Del Sol Si. It has a real trunk. The caveat is that the roof is manual. I still find this car entertaining after driving it for 25 years and 212,600 miles.
I have an ND1, and honestly, my only complaints are the interior rattles, the lack of steering column extention, and the seat is mounted too high. The seating position is much better in the Scion FRS I drove. Also, the engine could really use 25-50 ft/lbs more torque...even in the ND2. Overall, this is the best drivers car for the money in my opinion. The FRS/BRZ/GR86 would be equal or better if they didn't have those damn NA boxer engines with the torque dip....even the new ones still have that issue.
And the weird bump on the floor where the drivers rests his left foot - this is in the English right hand drive version, dunno about left hand drive cars.
7:56 I actually do hear quite a bit of growling induction noise at lower RPMs but then it seems to fizzle out above 6k. The camera seems to pick up more noise than what I experience in-person. I have the same complaint though. It would be nice to have more induction noise but I have no idea how you'd go about doing that. Maybe more aggressive cams.
Good opinions and thanks for the video. My thoughts: - BRZ doesn't have dual a-arms and cannot really align it from the factory - I Turo'd the car and from the interior, there is more than enough engine / interior sound - The BRZ with a muffler only sounds horrible as it is EL. The MX5 with an axle back sounds great - The EJ/FA engines from Subaru are a liability. I have not concerns about this with the MX5 engines and later gearboxes All your points / opinions are valid. However, I would and am taking the 38-40k MX5 RF Club over the BRZ*, any day of the week.
I agree overall! But on your second point I'd say the quality (not necessarily quantity) of engine sound is lacking. Obviously, super subjective in nature.
@@egorlike1324 just for input in my case, I am also 6' 235lbs and I had more than enough room (no motorsports other than autoX room with the top down) for my usecase and daily. This would be a daily for me, as I don't take stuff around with me. The family goes around in the family hauler, and this is a car I enjoy while getting 44mpg (when I am not driving hard on RE-71RS, I am just putting around). Both good cars. Purpose and personal tolerances matter!
Hoping I can find a plush, used 2019 or better RF GT next August (for my birthday)...at around $22,000. Spoiled paying just $140 per month on my 128i. Even with $5,000 down this thing will come in at $300 per month. But it's so sweet.
Hi, is this the one with the new improved engine at 181 Bhp? In went for a test drive and it was way louder and had more vibration than my old 1.5 Miata (EU spec) . For reference, I've test driven the old 2.0 at 155 Bhp too. The new 181 BHP engine is just not defined enough for my taste. You can feel the engine vibrations through the chassis, steering, gear lever etc and the engine noise is way too loud for a GT car which is what I wanted. I agree that, the character has been kept and that it's an even better track car but I had no intention of doing that. Does anyone else find the level of noise and vibration too much?
I have an abarth with stuffed turbo I’d argue that with the set up it’s the perfect car wish they would’ve continued the abarth and kept updating it. The Miata is pretty much one of a kind in this segment because of convertible, just wish it had more aggressive driving and better exhaust note.
