*We haven't had cable in so long! We have Netflix & Hulu, and since we've always had Amazon Prime, we also have the shows that come with that. Between those and RU-vid, we are never lacking for entertainment.*
The other day in Sams Club the direct tv guy I think was shocked when he asked who my cable provider was and I said we don’t have cable and he was like oh did you just move and I’m like nope! Lol😂😂
Great ideas! We gave up cable 6 months ago and are saving for a Firestick. I’m canceling Netflix soon as well. Meal planning and Aldi has been a Godsend for us. I still need to trim the grocery budget a bit, but I’d guess we’ve cut our grocery budget in half. Lots more planning and budgeting to come in 2018. TFS!!
Public libraries often have free or discounted tickets to “kids” events never mind their free perks...books, videos, programs....and national parks programs 💕
Good video! We switched our cell phone bill to basic, cut the cable 2 years ago, we have 4 children and I was always buying things for them when I see it not necessarily needed it. I stopped doing that and invested in my kids doing gymnastics and other things! I also shop at Aldi with 6 of us including my husband that loves to eat lol I got our grocery budget to $330 a month! We don’t eat out much but if we do I have a very small budget for that!
I'm trying to get my hubs on board to get rid of cable..he finally said as soon as the 2 year subscription is up we would get rid of it for at least a year. I very seldom watch cable but i do have to have the Internet because I work at home. Cable is a ridiculous bill to have!!
We gave up cable several years ago stream netflix and hulu love amazon prime def worth the money in dec i started buying groceries at aldis which wow saves a ton of money.....cut out going out all the time....do dollar movies and dollar menu items if i go out with friends and no snacks or drinks at the theater or we hang out at my house and watch movies i already have...dont get hair cuts very often....dollar tree actually has a pretty decent hair dye so been using that instead of the more expensive stuff. Making due with what cloths and things we have mend it or fix it instead of buying new and cancelled subscriptions before the new year....these are some of the things we've incorporated to help pay off some debt hoping to be debt free within a year or 2
You are making some excellent changes! I am so happy for the strides you have made so far! Just keep it up, you can do this! Being debt free within a year or two is wonderful.
You gave people lots of good ideas. We gave up TV several years ago too. My husband has never really liked TV but I like the white noise. When we moved we just never got satellite or cable. I have tried HULU and Netflix but frankly I didn't find enough that I wanted to watch. We still have a television and can get lots of over-the-air channels but honestly I can't remember the last time the television was turned on. RU-vid is a great information and entertainment source for me. I've never been much of a name brand food shopper. Occasionally I'll find that I like a particular name brand over the store brand but usually I buy store brand foods. I'm not big into name brand clothes either.
I have a sewing machine but I'm not a very good seamstress. All of the women in my family can sew (garments, drapes, upholstery etc) but try as I might not me. I've come to the realization that that gene didn't get expressed in my DNA. Mostly I use my sewing machine for repairs and sewing beds, car seat covers etc for our Aussie. I made a camp style shirt one time to wear to our state fair. Our young niece came up to me and asked if I made the shirt. I told her that I did and asked how she knew. She said, "I can just tell", turned and walked away. The honesty of children can sting. :-)
Hi new subscriber. I’d really like to try and color my own hair at home to save money. I’d go back to natural but I don’t want the grey showing. lol. We also just recently purchase a grooming kit so we can groom our dog ourselves. It’ll save about $50 every 8 weeks. You’re definitely right about RU-vid. You can pretty much learn how to do anything yourself. TFS.😊
Welcome! Thank you so much for subscribing ❤️ Coloring your hair at home is a great option! I don’t have greys poking through yet, but I know my days are numbered lol and when it happens I will defenitly be dying my hair! Try searching for the best affordable home hair dye, I bet there are options out there that would work for you! Don’t you just love RU-vid! We use it for everything.
Redsgal21 Cinci Great ideas! You can totally dye your own hair. Watch some RU-vid videos for support. You can buy professional quality products at Sally Beauty. I love the L’Oréal drugstore boxes. They work great. I went from spending $100 to $6. Good luck!
Great video. Groceries was a BIG part of my budget. I save hundreds of dollars on the budget I have now. I just got back from Aldi and my budget is $25/week just for January because I bought a lot of groceries with giftcards in December. Normally my budget is $30. I manage to stay on budget with rare exception. When I went to other grocery stores I spent twice that amount. Also bringing my breakfast, lunch and dinner if I have to be out saves me tons of money. I was going to cut my cable, but my internet provider said my cable (I have the most basic) is included in my internet price. Otherwise I would have cut the cable. I try to walk on the weekends and not use my car which saves me gas.
That makes total sense about your internet and cable being paired. Here ours are two separate companies, so it can get pricey fast! What an awesome job you do with the grocery budget! Taking your meals helps so much. My husband gets free meals at work, but I always pack it saves a ton.
Kathleen Ross call your cable provider again. They are stretching the truth to keep you. Yes your internet and cable are bundled but they CAN separate them. They tried the same with me. I now pay $45 for Internet. No cable tv or phone any longer. Just tell them you only want internet. Ask for a supervisor if necessary. Don’t take no for an answer. Good luck friend!
That is a great thing to cut!! We were never terrible about it so it wasn’t as big of a line item for us but you are not alone! I know tons of people who go out a lot. I don’t like cooking at all, do you?
