It's been a whole year without him. I was never a super fan, but I knew about Kim Jung Gi and I saw many of his works, and some videos about him. I got to know him through Proko and I rewatched the first 2018 big video they did about him a few months ago and it really hits differently now. He said back then that in about 10 years he wants to change his focus and travel less to spend more time with his family. There was the same video where he was doing the interview as kept drawing while he just sat there with Stan Prokopenko. I watched a video of him showing his printed sketchbook full of amazing drawings and he was just flipping pages like "yeah, here's some more city scapes.. here's some more people" and barely stopped to even point at any of the things he drew. You just can't fake that amount of humbleness, while he's one of those who could brag the absolute most. I once started just a goofy big digital drawing loosely based on his works while he was still alive and I never finished it. Maybe I should revisit that some time soon.

Thanks for sharing! I didn’t mention the traveling and busy schedule in the video on purpose, as I don’t have many infos on his schedule and work habits, but definitely something to think about. Super happy the video got you excited to go back to an unfinished painting :)

I first saw a video of Kim Jun Gi sketching in the mountains a few years ago. I was inspired by it, even though I didn't know who he was. I immediately ran to find out what this brush was, bought it, and started practicing by painting similar things in his style. Every once in a while I was able to get into this concentrated state and pay special attention to the drawing. And then I felt like I could draw anything I wanted, and that rarely happens. I want to follow in the footsteps of this master and spend a lot of time practicing and adding to my visual library. I also want to add some color to my drawings. I bought a lot of ink, brushes and different sizes of paper to practice on. This is definitely my favorite artist

Do not follow his steps. There are many steps. You will only feel frustrated of yourself as you will always-I tell you-remain in his shadows. I'm sure you don't want, or maybe you do.

For me what fascinates more than how he visualizes, is that how fast he chooses what to draw.. personally i need a while to even think what to draw 😂
