For anyone looking for something to watch I’ve found this channel and haven’t looked back. I watch a video every morning like the morning news and have 0 aspirations to become an artist, simply breathe taking.
this is the best part I agree 🤩 The way he explains by comparing and breaking down the objects he draws into parts is genius. We are very lucky to find this for free on YT
dung bung,, the man is using a brush with ink ,, no need to construction lines or eraser.. and he nails it so damn perfectly. I learn from this that it is not a must to have a perfect smooth line even a jaggy line is good the only thing that matters is correct proportions and perspective !
You are right. I have been watching lots of such of videos and one thing I picked up on is that you should just divide the shape as much as you can. A head isn't so heard to draw once you understand it's just a rectangle with details.

You can have perfect perspective and proportions and still a soulless drawing, which of course isnt his case. There is something missing from his explanation. He also has a balanced line value which directs you where to look at: he is not randomly putting thin and darker lines , he does this with a purpose. He also concentrates details in some areas and leave other areas clean. This concentration creates a contrast between a visual dark grey where details concentrate and a lighter value where things are cleaner. I have seen tons of videos by him and he always puts emphasis in perspective, space, and proportions: These are all characteristics of a three dimensional drawing code. But he always leave the explanation of the other stuff out as if they werent important: the two dimensional code: contrast, line value, shape, contours, etc. Kim Jung Gi is an exceptional artist of course, this is just an observation I made on how he explains his own method.
@ I disagree. While it is of course important to know other things, 90% of the struggle in drawing is perspective, figuring out where to put things relative to each other. Understanding that alone will make your a good artists. On the other hand, if your perspective isn't right, nothing else you do will fix the drawing. You shouldn't for example spend years learning anatomy when you could just clothe or other things.

@@deepdive1338 Love the debate, but sorry, perspective and even anatomy are not the most important aspects of drawing. You have a universe of artists that do not care for any of these things (anatomy and perspective) and they still make great art. Making an image is basically arranging shapes in a two dimensional space. Contrast, shape, value, line weight are elements of composition and they work in the same way in every visual discipline. A correct use of conical perspective will make an image more reallistic and coincident with the way the brain perceives space but more reallistic is not better.
@ lol that's just flat wrong. It's like theory in music. I can play and sound alright with knowing theory but it doesn't mean I am not playing theory and as soon as I am not applying theory, I will sound terrible. I can figure chords, and even scales to some degree just goofing around In the same token you can draw without learning the "theory" but if they drew the head or arm not in perspective, it would immediately be noticeable. There's a difference between not knowing the rules you are using vs not using the rules at all.
