Growing up in Montana I had limited exposure to autism until I had my son. The more I learned I realized I was autistic too. I had a negative view of autism before but my view has changed completely thanks to RU-vidrs like yourself!

Great video!! I´m working on getting a formal diagnosis, I´m getting a late diagnosis at 27 yo, like many females. It´s also nice to know that there are other people out there like me :)

I was lucky enough to know that autism was a spectrum early on. My family was involved with youth athletics in The Netherlands here we call them athletic clubs. My dad setup a group for people with disabilities within the club. This was often a smaller group of ten to twenty or so athletes, it was a group with mixed disabilities, amongst which there were a few with autism. It was cool to see the progression of this group, and to hangout with the athletes and parents. One of the coolest things to hear was when a parents would thank my dad for setting up the group because their child or adult went from non-speaking to speaking again. Or to hear that an ongoing depression had lifted. Exercise doesn't wonders for the brain. Freight ship.....

You said "autist" and I had to pause the video because of *all the happy stims.* Linguistics is one of my special interests, and there aren't many people who use the word "autist"

I’m glad you are here than because I have like way to many degrees in ancient languages and linguistics are my jams

@@WoodshedTheory i don't have any degrees in language, I just have a small library of materials for learning languages. Right now, I have enough to get me to a total of 7 languages that I will be able to speak by the time I'm done. I also have a subset of that which is dedicated to following the evolution of our modern languages through time. That collection is dedicated to European and Mesopotamian language, but I may expand it to include eastern languages as well. I've been debating whether or not I should get in contact with a university professor to possibly get better access to learning materials. There is only so much I can do with what I can find at my local bookstore xD granted, I can do quite a bit with it

I just seem to have this gut feeling, and from my experience, i was always aware I had some loss of neurological function. Then, withcthe psychologist, i pointed to my forehead and stated "I have a mental deficiency." Then he said "That's not possible." Yhen finally got diagnosed with adhd and suddenly I'm not having any trouble, brain fog, I resolved my own depression. I solely considered and am beyond certain, self diagnosed ASD. Yeah so im not here to make a neurotypical feel like their ego is being stroked. Oh, what a crime. They will not accept I wm fully able to describe and manage my own limits, learn things very quickly and have quite good results with highly difficult concepts. But i don't have more than a compsci deagee nearly a 4.0 and done while working full time with undiagnosed ADHD. That seems bad, but i still did it. I had some help because my actual math ability is horrible. I still was overwhelmed with unchecked intrusive thoughts and constant mental exhaustion. Labeled: Degenerate Asshole. Oh, thank you so much!

11:18 oh how I've longed for fellowship with other women on the spectrum! So glad you've been able to find that. I'd love to have true friends, but have had very limited success in that endeavor. I do identify with @Anja chan that my friendship style is more like a male, I think, kinda to the point. Hope that made sense😂
