It's a different set of pros and cons no matter where you are, that's for sure. I'm originally from Northern Vermont where folks endure 8 months of what feels like never-ending winter! Personally, I love the dry heat (especially our warm desert nights)! I'll take 3 months of heat in exchange for paradise the rest of the year here in Palm Springs 😎

@@ajhill6655 Really? I just moved here from the Bay Area, and one of the greatest disappointments for me has been the food scene. It's great if you're here for a weekend, but I wouldn't say that the restaurant scene is impressive so far.

All very true, I live in Palm Desert right next to Palm Springs. There is just something healthy to waking up virtually every morning to a blue sky. Once and a while we get desert winds but it's not common. IMHO there's a very good and accepting 'community vibe' in the valley. And the food, well my Dr. warned me to watch my carbs this year!!!

You compared cost of living PS to LA -- but would think someone desert shopping would want cost of living PS vs Vegas or Phoenix. Or if friendly shopping, PS vs SFO or Asheville or Houston etc. Just a suggestion!

I moved there in 2007 and at first it was great. However the longer I was there the more I realized that CA and Palm Springs were becoming more crime ridden, higher in taxes and even with solar on the roof I was paying $200 a month for electricity on top of the solar financing. My property taxes on a 2400 square foot home were over $13,000 a year and my state income taxes were over 10% with a cap at 13.4%. Car insurance was also really high. Frankly being gay there wasn’t all it was cracked up to be either because if your politics weren’t far left you were an outcast. In 2018 I had had enough and sold my home and moved to Scottsdale, AZ. I’m in a 3800 square foot home on an acre of land and my property taxes are $3800 per year. My income tax is a flat rate of 2.5% no matter how much I earn. I live in a great and welcoming community where you’re respected for being you, not what you do or who you do it with. The gay people here are much more chill than the California gay people I encountered in Palm Springs, more like “normal” queers as we like to say here. All in all Palm Springs was a nice experience for 11 years but I am happy to be gone.
@livinginpalmspringscalifornia

There's certainly a lot to consider. It's a different set of pros and cons no matter where you are. As a gay man myself, my life has improved tremendously from living here in Palm Springs (after living on the east coast for many years and then Los Angeles for five years). I'm glad to hear you're enjoying life in Scottsdale now!

@tommoncrieff1154

Short term rentals haven’t been outlawed. There’s a cap on the numbers, not a reduction or an end to them. Plus any homeowner can now rent their property for 6 weekends in the year. If you pick the right weekends such as Coachella, then you should cover your mortgage assuming you are not over borrowed.
@livinginpalmspringscalifornia
@livinginpalmspringscalifornia 2 месяца назад
Yes, there' a cap on the numbers now to better regulate things and help keep the area a manageable, welcoming place for all!

I’m laughing he’s so wrong. Airbnbs now capped at 25% which I needn’t point out is potentially one out of every four houses. It’s nearly that now. As long as the City makes tens of millions a year they don’t care about the residents. Really disgusting

As a person who does not support homosexuality….will a move to Palm Springs be detrimental. I am looking for a second home but will not be forced to buy into this way of life.
@livinginpalmspringscalifornia
@livinginpalmspringscalifornia 2 месяца назад
There's no need for you to buy a second home here if that's how you currently feel and think. Our beautiful, diverse LGBTQ+ community and supportive heterosexual friends, family, and allies don't need that kind of fear, ignorance, or intolerance. We endure enough of that on a daily basis in every other part of the world. It's amazing to live in a safe area where even our local government and police system has our safety and best interest at stake. Furthermore, homosexuality not a "way of life" - we were born this way, just like you were born however you were born. That said, if you'd like to be apart of a supportive, positive, inclusive community, then by all means - we welcome you to Palm Springs!
@frankzito8653
@frankzito8653 2 месяца назад
Does "supporting homosexuality" mean you can't coexist alongside people who are different than you? And do you think people will be forcing you into this way of life? My suggestion is to get more educated about diversity. And If it's not for you, then avoid cities which celebrate inclusion.

How is it hypocritical to favor limiting big government spending, create energy independence, a strong military, a well educated populace, avoiding wars and a building a strong economy. Sounds more like intelligent common sense to me.
