To be honest as an Algerian , I'd rather keep it that way . I don't want to see my country becoming a touristic target .. the benefits are far less than what tourism does to countries . Enjoy brother .
@jodalton8751

Indeed ! Mass tourism is terrible. But the tourism like actually is good. The priority is to build installations to keep the 3 billions of dollars that algerians are spending in Tunisia each year. We can receive some tourists if it's the same kind than France or Italy, but not the jkind of spain, morroco or tunisia :s

I’m a Portuguese interpreter in Algiers and I believe tourism depends on what you want, not a single Portuguese or Brazilian person I worked for was looking for women or over drinking or rude, they’re all nice people who love all the discoveries, history and places. The food and nature amazes them ❤

Sly, we as Algerians are really happy that you did your best and struggled with visa preparations to come visit our big country, you can see it as a minimum that you can do but it's a big thing to us, tourism was dead after 80' that's why Algeria isnt known for this generation of foreigners. Thank you Sly and enjoy our country 😊

I am an Algerian and I can say one thing. The saying my dad use to say: « Do good and forget about it » In our culture helping others is the basis of our education and we are very proud of it. People wanting to help in the streets is our normal. I am glad you enjoyed it and that you are showing your vision about your travel in Algeria. Us Algerians tend to forget that those values we have often dissapeared in other places of the world. Welcoming others, strangers, or just helping out an eldelry is what our parents focus on when we grow up.! 🙏🙏🙏

Also try to ask for the best places that sell Algerian traditional pastries since we are known to have the best pastries , look for the traditional Attires of each city you visit as well maybe in meusums.

You are right about the areas that experienced a lot of tourism you will a lot of touts and scammers. I visited Goa India when it just open for tourism some 20 years ago and it was absolutely fantastic!! It is exactly like you said, the locals were wonderful. You ask for directions and they would take you to a place even if they were going in the opposite direction. They never overcharged. So friendly with everyone greeting you with a smile and they wanted to give you something rather than they asking getting something from you. They had lots of British and German tourists. I went back four years ago, and it has changed completely!! It was packed with mostly domestic tourists and some Russians. The domestic tourists from all over India but they have in common the Bollywood songs/music so they blast it all over the place. A lot of clubs that used to play Western music now play Bollywood music. I guess they only get alcohol in Goa in all of India, as it looked like the domestic tourists came to Goa to get wasted. You see them urinating all over the place outside. There is litter and garbage everywhere!! It is sad to see a beautiful place totally destroyed. And the touts come out from everywhere harassing you with the hawkers. They will never leave you alone if you relaxing on the beach. You have to get up and go, to get them to leave you alone and even then, they will follow you even if you are rude to them. They also had a ton of beggars which I did not see some 20 years ago. The traffic is wild and the taxi drivers try to scam you, you see the domestic tourists arguing with the taxi drivers. But most of the domestic tourists cone with their vehicles or they rent them in Goa, and it is a nightmare to get anywhere with all the traffic, and the honking and yelling. It is sad, a beautiful place has been destroyed. And all kinds of haphazard buildings have come up on every square inch of land with no parking for vehicles so it is ugly. They destroyed the natural beauty of the land. When I asked the locals what happened they said that Indians from all over India started moving to Goa to get into the tourism business and they only care about making a buck without care for the service. They agreed a lot of cheating was going on but they claimed it was the Indians that moved to Goa to do business. I also saw lots of small slums, shanty towns where there were none in the past. I even saw one come up almost overnight on an open property not far from the beach I used to walk to...all desperately poor people with their families and these people have lots of kids! Yeah, tourism has totally destroyed Goa, India. It is a good example of why not to do tourism unless you are an island nation where you can set the numbers of tourists etc. So you are absolutely correct that high tourism destroys a place and try to avoid those areas.

Hey Sly, glad you enjoyed your stay :) I just wanted to point out that you actually got the currency conversion backwards. You see, we use cents instead of dinars, thus we multiply the number of the bill by 100. So a 500 dinar bill is called a fifty thousand. a 10 dinar coin is called a thousand because again it's 10 times 100 cents.

Hi Sly, just wanted to give you some guidance in your travel to Algeria. A lot of Palaces are in Al Casbah or in Algiers center: 1. Dar Khedaoudj el Amia 2. rias el bahr Palace (Rias El Bahr means the lords of the seas as ower ancestors used to rule over the méditerranian sea, and for the story, American Navy was established to counter the Algerian Rias El Bhar 😊 )) 3. Restaurant Dar Lalla Yamina (original and authentical Algerian architecture called Ziride architecture). 4. Bardo Meusume Algeria is the biggest country in Africa, and there are a lot to see in these regions like: 1.Canstantine (cirta in the past) one of the oldest capitals in africa and maybe the world (founded 25 centuries ago) 2.Tlemcen (capital of Zianide dynasty) 3. Tassili n'Ajjer national park and Iskram summit in Tamenghest 4.Biskra (gate of the desert and best dates in the world come from this very city) 5.Batna (Ghoufi's Balconies) 6. Oran the beautiful city in the West 7. Annaba another beautiful city in the east. 8. Ghardaya capital of Mizab, . . . And many more.

About the money thing.. Well, the currency is Algerian Dinar. But most people don't use that. They use instead the Cent which has been used since the colonial days. One algerian Dinar = 100 Cent or (centime, Doro) Some people will add the "thousand" and others won't. So whenever they say a number, like 50 or 100. They actually mean fifty thousand cents or a hundred thousand cents which is 500Da or 1000Da. Quick tip : If you don't hear Dinar at the end of the price, just add a zero to whatever price your given. Sometimes you'll cent "mille" or "elf" at the end of the price and that's the "thousand", so yeah, same thing. Ditch that and add your Zero and you're good to go.

You might find it annoying how Algerians love their country so much but the good thing coming out of it for you is that they want to make such a good impression of it and welcome people to it that you'd find everybody willing to help put tourists 😂 and it's not just for that purpose alone since Algerians tend to be very empathetic with one another so occurrences like a store owner giving someone something for free and stuff like that are very common. I really hope you enjoyed your stay

Hello Sly ! For the currency part it's because we still deal with *Centimes* instead of *dinar* . Let me explain , for example imagine u say *100 cent* istead of a *1$* ,that's exactly what we do here : *1 algerian dinar = 100 centime* . The trick is to multiply by 100 whatever the number is shown on the banknote/coin. So , when he said 49 he meant 49000 centime which is 490 dinar !

Hey my friend I really enjoyed your video and I hope you enjoyed your trip to our Country I just wanted to clarify one thing that you could miss regarding the money it is true that the price and numbers are quite confusing especially for tourists The reason behind that is we actually have two ways to say the price of an Item so we can use Cents or Dinars and the example you gave is actually correct as in Algeria we usually use Dinars instead of Cents so if your item is 100 Dinars is actually 10000 Cents and this where all the confusion comes from Thank you again for this amazing video ;)

Your credit card, debit card will work at algerian ATM but the exchange rate is about 30% less than the black market rates. I guess you are going to Oran city .give the cable car ( teleferique) from the city center next to the port to the top of Al marjajou mountain.i sight not be missed and also the Sabkha(salt plains) you might also like the traditional food try le royaume du coucous restaurant with a variety of delicious dishes it's in the city center not far from Sea front also the Kasbah next to the old Oran ruins.good luck and as always Welcome.

Thank you for visiting Algeria. Hospitality is something really important in Algeria because of a lot of reasons : Algerian people are proud of their land, they are too proud to overcharge tourists, they don't want Algerian people to have this reputation, they want to be seen as proud people (but not in an arrogant way), and they love when strangers try to learn about Algeria, islam also teaches to treat the guests well, so it's cultural and comes with education. If you go to the cities in the desert, in the south, you can knock to any door and people will welcome you. You can feel alone as it's not touristic and as the country is not design to make stranger lives particularly easy, but if you ask for some help, people will never let you down, and of course, no one asks or wait for money as a reward after having helping you, this is something muslim people avoid to do, that's why i love Algeria not being a touristic country. If this changes, may be it will make the people change as well, and that would be dramatic, because we all know the power of the money.

Nice video, your approach to the country and people is fair. also, you shoud visit the berber - amazigh - region of kabylie, cities like bejaia and tizi-ouzou - it's not far from algiers, about 80 miles, it's mountainous on the coast and inland. You will see some traditional features including people speaking native berber amazigh language written in tifinagh alphabet. educated people easily speak 3 or 4 languages.next time try to get in touch with locals beforehand so you can travel extensively with them deep inland and to the desert. other cities like oran, constantine, tlemcen, ghardaia are to be visited as well. enjoy.
