Yes, people need to hear that a big house doesn’t represent wealth. The bigger the house the bigger the bills. Excellent advice.

Some ppl talked about my extremely inexpensive wedding. We got married & told everyone later. Justice of the Peace is all u need. Most home cooking is healthier than restaurant food. I do have clothes with tags still on them. I'm guilty.

Not being perfect isn’t being bad or needing to feel guilty. Part of striving for excellence should mean being kind. To yourself. Self talk is powerful.

I had two weddings-the first I was young and couldn’t afford much. Family came together, made food, made the invites, made everything. The whole thing cost maybe $800 (including the dress). Fast forward to my second marriage and we both had good jobs so we paid for everything-venue, catering, DJ, everything. It was fun, but it set me back $27k. If I could go back, I’d redo it all and spend maybe a grand and bank the rest.. especially since I’m now disabled and can no longer work.

@@KeliOConnor we both had good incomes, but didn't want the stress of inviting everyone & waiting for arrivals. I already had a beautiful gown. We did what we did & now we live a great lives. Very low stress when we have to travel & shop because we save up for everything!!

Perhaps because, I am an African American male who has lived in "sunny" Southern California for 40-years (moved here from Carolina) but, I would change in your video title the word "Frugal" to the word "common sense". Now in my early 60's, I retired last year. I live in a fully paid-off modest home (1,500 square feet), drive a fully paid for automobile (year 2014); eat primarily home cooked meals (both when, I was single and married) and have a current Net Worth of $1.4 million. Also, one of the things I love about Southern California is that everything is right here (i.e. beaches, mountains, parks, hike trails, seaport villages, museums, etc.). Plus if, I want a change both San Diego and Santa Barbara are just a 2.5 mile drive away either up or down the coast (smile ... smile).

#6 - Kardashian Wedding - get rid of the belief in a huge expensive wedding. Not to mention that people then expect their parents to pay for this one day WE'RE RICH fantasy.
@M_SC
@M_SC Месяц назад
The reason parents of the bride were expected to “pay” for the wedding is because of the tradition of having it at their house. The reception at least. Or doing the cooking for it in the church hall. To Me thats already expense and work enough! I’ve never liked weddings. I went to one reception in a barn, it was Irish and they had a dance caller (like square dancing but Irish style). It was extremely fun, because of this band. The only fun wedding I’ve ever been to.

@@M_SCI’ve heard the reason the brides family take care of the wedding is because the husband then takes care of the wife after marriage. Don’t know how true this is.

The expensive weddings are ridiculous whether you can afford it or not. One lady told me she wanted an expansive wedding because she wanted a day to be all about her. Also, she wanted the wedding (the day about her) to be memorable to herself and others. I looked at her like she was growing a second head.

In Fumio Sasaki's book Goodbye Things (I paraphrase) "we all have a roommate - we call it "our things". And this roommate requires lots of room for which it does not pay rent.

The upscale commodification of children’s activities is absurd. In the same week I saw a RU-vidr I like take her baby/toddler to home hardware as a a fun experience. Baby looked at the high high ceilings with fans. Baby looked at the lights in the lights section, baby saw the plants. It was sensory and stimulating and free. She wasn’t there to buy stuff but to use it as a trip for the baby. It was genius. Meanwhile a week later a friend of mine was taking her similar age child (like around 11 months?) to the nearby zoo park. It’s expensive and the kid was too young to appreciate zebras and lions more than the local dogs passing the house. Probably overstimulating and personally I think it’s unethical treatment of the animals, but that’s another issue. I thought the contrast between the 2 families was amazing.

Finally getting rid of things, purging, feels good. We eat at home and cook together, time to chat about the day, when we sit down, we already have the issues out of the way, and eating is more relaxing and enjoyable. We both drink water eating out to avoid the cost of beverages. We both have noticed that refills are no longer complimentary at some places.

Thank you for the frugal reminder. Now I feel especially good because as I got home earlier after walking to pick up my truck (that I’ve had for 21 years) from the auto shop. After getting needed work on it done. But your video just made me think I did that without even flinching or feeling bad about walking in this weather just to avoid paying an Uber 10 bucks. And yes it was hot walking and under 2 miles. So small steps I guess.

Such great ideas. I hate to see people say I don’t have any money but they’ll buy lottery tickets. Drinks at the gas station go out to eat 20 meals a day, etc..

You have great content but not sure why there aren't so many subscribers. Just an idea if you haven't tried already - you can ask people to send you their questions and you can provide your advice on your videos. Might be interesting to experiment.
