Some ppl used to say that I was cheap because I don't believe in spending a lot on clothes. Many of those same ppl now shop at some of the discount stores I shop at. They realize they don't want to grow old & have nothing to show for their lives, but some expensive clothes. I try to save on everything! Why throw away money when u don't have to? That way u can save for a nice vacation or give & help the less fortunate!!!

Q: you get paid 10 days before the bill is due.... Do you go ahead and pay it 10 days early?

Pay the bill as soon as you get it regardless of when payday is.

I think that it is important to understand price does not equal quality of construction. I think it is also important to understand that salespeople are not your friends and that everyone has a point of view which may or may not align with your personal priorities and situation. I think it is important to understand retail markup. I think it is important to understand what you are REALLY trying to buy. I think it is very important to understand that possessions have an ongoing cost - maintenance, space, etc. so you can be aware of and evaluate if the item is worth keeping (simplicity in living is a wonderful thing). thank you for your time.

Small savings has really paid off for me. I automatically transfer $250 every month into my savings plus my bank now offers "round up to the nearest dollar / save the change" on card purchases

Me and my friends bought houses in our 20s (we are now in our 40s). As we got older and earned larger salaries, they bought bigger houses and cars. I kept my modest home and I've only bought 2 cars in that time span (Lexus cars are a great value and lasts forever. I still own the two that I purchased and they run great.). My only debt is my home and I am able to travel whenever I want and buy whatever I want. I'm able to save almost half of my take home pay because I continue to live modestly. Keeping up with the Joneses has never been a goal of mine. Because of this I will be able to retire at 55 and collect a pension from my job. Around that same time I will be done paying off my home. So I will have the choice of working when I want or not at all. I am so grateful 🙏🏾

separating wants vs needs, absolutely critical, plus analyzing your spending. Write down every penny spent and then see where you are spending money and adjust.

My friend, who lost his wife to cancer told me that before she died, she told him that she had 2 credit cards that had an outstanding balance of $9,000 each. He couldn't believe it.

In cases 1, 2 and 4 you already have the item on your shopping list in some way. And if you missed it on one opprtunity, you still want it and see it again, you also followed the whatever-delay-works-for-you rule :-D Case 3 might be difficult to distinguish from FOMO.

I like the suggestion to shop on certain days of the month! I already make lists of things I want, so I’ll try to assign one day a month to go through that list and buy what I want.

I made a spreadsheet for each month with the date, expense, paid to, and reason for a year, and it really showed where every penny goes. Once we saw that, we saw we have a spending problem and budgeted accordingly

I shop at Costco every other week. This helps keep our grocery bill lower. My grocery list is relatively small. On the other weeks I buy fresh produce I ran out of. Nutrition is a big deal in our household. My grocery list doesn't leave room for much processed food.

I only allow myself to shop 24 hours after being paid. I work shifts and often I'm working during that timeframe. I also have a one in TWO out rule and the two items have to be determined BEFORE the purchase.😊 🤑

The “use it up” rule is golden! I picked up that tip from a frugal channel or here (maybe both.lol) a couple of years ago and I use it to this day in regards to toiletries. It has saved me maybe $30/month. The first year I did this, I literally did not have to buy body soap/wash, toothpaste, lotion, body oils or hair products! Now, I’m trying this for grocery runs. I do pretty good with cooking most of my meals, but I can deplete my cabinets a bit more, especially the canned goods (and weight loss would be a bonus).

Stop wearing so much makeup. Most of that crap has ingredients that are slowly poisoning you. But not using paper towels? LOL! Honey, they're convenient. Not using them for the rest of my life, the money I would save? Would be far less than a single month's rent. The time and water cost involved in washing towels, not to mention their upfront cost or the fact they don't stay super absorbent for more than a year making you rebuy them? Won't save you anything. We aren't mowing down rainforests - we utilize fast growing trees domestically, farm style, for paper. And if your local community is suffering from a drought, maybe think twice about running your water unnecessarily for things a paper towel could have covered - like your cat throwing up.

Sounds good. 👍 It’s very important to consider the consequences of what we’re doing. 🤔 A change in mindset can help. 💡 I like the idea of giving yourself back the money from recurring bills once you cancel them! Nice. 💸 I give names to all my accounts. One of them is DO NOT TOUCH!! 😂
