When I watch Garden Answer I so look forward to seeing Russell. I never considered myself a cat person but you can see how much Russell loves Laura and its adorable. I know I'm going to enjoy watching your newest family addition in your videos as well.

Oh Jenny this video made me smile and laugh out loud watching your puppy in the cottage garden. She’s into absolutely everything isn’t she? I had forgotten what puppies are like as mine are 9 now, she’ll definitely sleep well tonight, as you will as you got so much done. It looks so lovely and tidy now. I’m trying to keep on top of mine whenever weather permits, as I just know how busy it’s all going to be in just a few weeks when Spring arrives. A lovely video 😊

That is the most fun I have ever had watching someone clean out their garden. My German Shepherd that is 10 still chases leaves that blow in the wind and my 8 year old German Shepherd still loves to pull the sticks out of the plants debris piles in the fall when I throw them aside. So cute. I'm going to love this journey with Brenna.

So envious of your lovely gardening weather. We should be doing the same in PNW, but Nov. we had rain and now our garden is buried under snow. So happy you got a puppy as a home is not a home without a dog. Our Golden Retriever loves helping with garden projects, especially jumping for pruned branches or weeds. Your clean up looks great.

In Indiana, I've had several annuals make an unexpected appearance the next year. Had I pulled them out in the fall/winter time, I would not have had the pleasant surprise of their presence, flowering the next year. Snapdragons, Victoria Blue salvia, a million bell, a gerbera daisy to name a few. The last two were the most surprising. The more I leave standing, the more leaves get caught and the more protection everything in the flower beds has.

@emkn1479
@emkn1479 2 года назад
There’s always something to be done. If possible I’ve taken to cutting annuals at soil level because it’s less messy and the rotting dead roots provide good organic material for the soil life. I also will then “chop and drop” the dead foliage (annual and perennial) but that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. It’s easily hidden with a layer of mulch and it’s just more organic material that helps to break up clay. Sort of a “compost in place”situation.
@Dbb27

That’s how I compost as well and I love your cutting at the roots. What a great idea and time saver! And soil saver!

Oh the joys of gardening with a puppy - I've done it many times myself !!! I live in N. Atlanta (7b) and have always cut back my lantana after the first freeze, and then heavily mulched them - never had a problem and they always came back bigger and better than ever (same with my banana trees) !!!! Cleaning up a garden bed is very theraeutic and gives one a sense of peace, plus the planning and anticipation of the coming Spring/Summer bed is always enjoyable! Always, always, ALWAYS something to do in the garden for sure ... wishing for you & yours a glorious New Year - even in these trying times we ALL have so much to be thankful for ...

Brynna is SO adorable. Just love watching her prance and play with those big paws of hers (she is going to be one big dog!). So I unfortunately ran out of time to get the large leaf debris out of my garden before everything froze and the snow came. I guess I’ll have to leave all this clean up until spring and hope it doesn’t cause any disease (MA zone 5).

That dog is so cute! I've been doing the same, here in South Louisiana, cleaning up my beds. We finally had a cold snap, last night. Got around 32 degrees, felt like 22 with the wind chill factor. But I supposed to be back in the 70's, later today. So, as usually, there is always something to do, in the garden. And I love it!

I'm in zone 8a eastern NC and I cut my lantana back every year after the frost bites it (usually right around Thanksgiving). I also moved a very well established lantana last spring as it was beginning to wake up and it grew almost as big as in years past. I know zones can have little micro climates but I have always done this in my area with tremendous luck. I think Jenny will be pleasantly surprised, at least I hope so!

I was hoping to see the continuation of Jerry's Landscaping project. I am excited to see how it is coming along. 2- It was so much fun watching Brenna I nearly forgot to pay attention to the video, so I had to back it up. I forgot what fun young dogs were like, Our's are all older now. I'm thinking we need a few new ones. 3- Jackson's treehouse is coming along just fine,, but it seems a little small for him. he should do a video of his treehouse and how he built it. 4- When I dig out plants, I beat/pound that root-ball to death getting all the soil out of them, then they [ root-ball, woody stems, etc] are burned for the pot ash, which goes back into the gardens. The rest goes into the compost. We also rake out the leaves, mulch it with the lawnmower, which goes into a bagger, and it goes in the composting bins. We have nearly zero waste from the gardens/farmland.
