I need a set of spotlights as I do a lot of driving out to my grandparent's house to drive them to the doctor for my granddad (about once a week). They live out rural a bit so there's a lot of kangaroos on the road and the drives home are often in the first few hours of the night when they are most active! I also got my first child on the way (daughter) so these would be great to help keep my self and my family safe driving to and from the doctors every week.

Great on stating the best CRI coming from of halogens. Seeing well is the result of quality light output and correct reflector design, not necessary the greatest lumens or blueish LED bars. I chose halogens for my Montero. Not sealed, no water fording, just an improvement over stock old low/high beams. Regards from Guatemala 🇬🇹

Thanks Shaun great tips. I think I have made most of those mistakes on my 80 Series. I’m embarking on a complete light upgrade after a disappointing experience with a cheap spotty and light bar deal a few years back has left me with just 4 working candles. Just got to get it right this time cheers Bill

Great video Shauno, very well put together and timely as I’m just scouting the internet looking at the many options of LED driving lights after hitting a roo at 90km/h at night. The mighty Pajero survived the impact luckily but certainly made me realize it’s time for a set of spot lights!

Great video and very informative. Since the birth of our daughter a few weeks ago I’ve started to rethink how our vehicle is set up for camping and touring. Previously I hadn’t really considered driving lights an essential requirement but now, anything I can do to make travel safer for my family is a good thing. We are planning a road trip from Newcastle to Tassie later this year and the Stedi’s would be a very welcome addition. Best of luck everyone!

@yarpos Part of his reply is in USA "we can not run them on road" legally. I've got a mixture of floods and " spotty's " on my "fourbie's" no "Roo's" to run in roads but whitetails, moose, antelope, cattle ect ect. . Hitting a moose can be deadly in N. America. Another Yank here, that follows a few 4 Wheel things from there... 👍

@a64738 2 месяца назад
Speak for yourself, I NEED BOTH SPOT AND FLOOD LIGHT for night driving. Here you have cows, sheep, reindeer and elk that run out into the road or just stand in the middle of the road blocking it with an entire reindeer flock. If I do not have good lights I would have to drive snow as snail, with good lights I can actually see them better during the night then in the day.

To be honest Shauno, I don't even have any LED lights, my dad is too tight on money that he saids he'll never get a pair. We just got a camper that we love going to places with but when driving the long tyring straight roads at night, it's so obvious that just our standard driving lights are nowhere near what we need. the Stedi type X Evo would help out so much and would make the trips around the places a whole lot safer aswell. Hopefully I could be considered in the competition. Cheers Shauno and the rest of ya

Shaun I have to disagree please review adventure kings spoties I bought a set which included 2 small spots two 7” spots and a light bar loom was separate cost me $220 plus the loom which was $100 roughly. Had them on my Jeep for 4 years drove them through river crossings been bogged under water for long periods of time matched them up with other brands for brightness and they come out on top. I took them off now it’s been 4 years replaced them with stedi evos because I always wanted stedi I have to say my kings ones were brighter I was disapointed in stedi il leave them on now that i paid big dollar for them But I’m not 💯 happy with them . I believe cheaper brands are just as good .

Hi There, What do you think about Supernova, I am trying to get Kings Lights off my car. I am looking between Stedi or Supernova. I love both of them, but the Supernova does 1.7km down the road but I think that is good but would be bad around corners because of the spread is bad. If i go to Stedi, what should i get Stedi Type-X Evo or Type-X Pro. Questions: What is the Difference? What would be the best one for me? I do like the Pro because of the cool covers but surely Stedi is bringing some out.

Why do you need to see 800-1000m ? In the bush they no good, on the highway they no good unless there`s a straight bit of road. Ok good idea if you doing 100-200km/hr and no oncoming traffic. If you cant stop within 50-100m you need a new brakes.

The problem I have with LEDs is the color temperature. 99% of them seem to be 6000 to 6500 Kelvin. Usually called "Hyper" or "Ice" White, or some such, they have that annoying blue tint which the human eye doesn't see well. Only the more expensive LEDs are a more normal 5000 K, which has a hint of yellow, but the human eye can see better. Because of this, I stick to halogens, while not as bright, I can see with.

I have a light bar mounted on the roof spoiler on my 3,2m tall Ford Transit box van, but even mounted that high it give way to much light right in front of the car and it do not light up the road farther away so I pretty much never use it. I have now bought 2 more of the 25W high beam halogen alike LED lights that came with the car when I bought it that is mounted in the grill of the car in front. They work great to light up the road far ahead and give not to much light right in front of the car. Will mount them up high on the spoiler to give even better reach ahead together with two 170w LED high beam lights with many smaller LED and reflectors (hope they are better then the light bar that have way to much spread).

In the States, spot lights are a tight beam, and flood lights are a wide beam. Cibie, Marchal, all the European classics offered both types. A pair of 7" Marchal halogen driving lights (in between the two) would let you read a newspaper over a kilometer down the road, once you replaced the 50W bulbs with 100W bulbs. Which made each lamp 10x brighter than our federal limit for road vehicles entirely. Sadly someone stole mine. They ridiculously expensive IF you can find them used.

Really gonna need those spotties. Currently working on the "poor uni student" build. Picked up a 2006 rav4 for some light offroading and overlanding, and it came with some nice hella lamps... also from 2006. The high beams with new bulbs are brighter than them at this stage. So instead of running out to replace the old halogen bulbs, I was gonna pick up some cheap LED lamps which should be better and last longer, but hey if you're gonna offer, im gonna ask. Got a ton of other things to do, AT tyres, RTT, 12v system, fridge slides, etc that I need to do, so free things are always welcome.

I personally no longer use LED anymore because of the kelvin colour of the LED'S I've gone back to a 4,300 K HID, And it's absolutely brilliant while these 5500k and higher Kelvin's reflect mist, dust, and rain the 4300k doesn't and you can see a lot more clearly without the interference of the elements...

I find it easier to drive steep hills using 4L but 4x4 are not necessary on pavement right? Also 4x4 is not r commended on paved road. So i was wondering if i can use 4L in 4x2 mode (hubs unlocked). I need a new set of driving lights due to the fact I have been putting off setting any up one my 2017 MUX. the reason I have been putting it off is that my father gave me 2 x 20-year-old Hella Rallye 2000 Driving Spotlights 9 Inch. one I have no idea how to set them up as they have one blue wire. I would love a pair of Stedi as they look amazing and would absolutely suit my car. Don’t want to buy cheap shit lights before we do our big trip from QLD down and around Tassie.

Just completed Gary Junction Road, NT to WA. Towing a caravan. I have a set of 2 great light force spot lights. Well did have. One bracket failed and at this stage can't locate replacement bracket. The screws came undone on one side. So a new set of Stedi's would fix the look on my ARB Bullbar. Thought they would be better than that.

Hi guys, I need a new set of spot lights !!! The ones i use at the moment are a set of 40 year old Cibie Super Oscers with HID's and the reflectors are burning out. I'm used to having a kilometer of of quality light and it's down to, on a good night , 5 - 600 meters of poor light . It would make my day to get a super good set of those Stedi Type X Evo LED lights.

I need a new set of spotties because my 2019 Ford Ranger was in an accident (not my fault) and written off. Insurance paid me out, I used that to get a 2021 Isuzu D-Max. But insurance didn’t allow me to remove any of my accessories before the Ranger went to scrap 😢 so my old light bar was wasted. I planned to try a pair of spotties this time, and was considering the Stedi range. 🙂👍🏻

Shauno, I’d love to receive a set of these lights. They will help me convince the missus that I need to fit my winch bar sooner in prep for when us and the tinlids go for my bucket list 50th birthday (5 years time) trip to the Cape (your fault hahaha)… Cheers legend, love watching your stuff 🤘…

Can’t help but enjoy all the knowledge and tips you give…. Mind you I shudder at what you do to your vehicles…. I’ve been watching and learning from you since I purchased my BT50 Ute last year…… we live in Regional SA, so my lovely lady would really appreciate some extra vision considering our regular eye to eye contact with Kangaroos every time we travel……

In desperate need of a good set of replacement LED drivers for the halogens on the grandpa spec 1HDFT 80 series I recently picked up. Been taking notes on SOOTY for future upgrades. These Evo's would be a brilliant start!

Awesome vid! The Stedi Type X Evo’s would be 100 times better than the 7 yr old ebay light bar currently on the Challenger 😆. Thanks for the info - never looked at CRI but will from now on.

First and foremost, let's talk about visibility. Picture this: you're cruising down the road, enjoying the freedom of the open highway, when suddenly darkness sets in. Whether it's nighttime driving or encountering foggy weather conditions, having spotlights on your vehicle is a game-changer. These bad boys provide focused and intense light, allowing you to see further and clearer than ever before. They illuminate the road ahead, making it a breeze to spot potential hazards, pedestrians, or wildlife that might cross your path. But it doesn't stop there. If you're an adventurous soul who loves exploring challenging terrains, spotlights are an absolute must-have. Imagine navigating through rough trails, rocky paths, or remote areas with limited lighting. Having spotlights mounted on the front of your vehicle ensures that every twist and turn is brilliantly illuminated. You'll have the confidence to conquer any obstacle that comes your way, making your off-road adventures safer and more exciting. Now, let's talk about safety and security. Additional lighting not only improves your visibility but also makes your vehicle more visible to others on the road. This increased visibility reduces the risk of accidents and ensures that fellow drivers can spot you from a distance. Furthermore, spotlights can act as a deterrent to potential criminals. With their bright beams cutting through the darkness, they make your vehicle less appealing to those up to no good. Plus, if you find yourself in dimly lit areas, such as parking lots or secluded spots, having spotlights can provide a sense of security by illuminating your surroundings. Lastly, let's not forget about the practicality of spotlights. If you use your vehicle for work or utility purposes, they can be a real game-changer. Need to load or unload cargo in low-light conditions? Spotlights have got your back. They provide ample lighting, ensuring you can efficiently carry out your tasks. Whether you're setting up camp, working on projects, or just need some extra illumination for those night time adventures, spotlights make it all easier and more convenient. So, my friend, that's why you need a new set of spotlights for your vehicle. When selecting spotlights, consider factors like brightness, beam pattern, durability, and ease of installation. With the right set of spotlights, your vehicle will become a beacon of light, enhancing your driving experience, safety, and overall enjoyment of your journey.

Hey Shauno love your work and would love some LED spotties. About to head off on a 7 week trip from SEQ out to Innamincka, Birdsville, Boulia and then the plenty Highway to the Alice. Coming home from the red centre via Kakadu back to SEQ. On the trip back may have to do some night driving and would love the road and side lite up like a chrisse tree.
