Hey, REACT! You should have the Adults react to another Try Not to Sing Along Challenge. Here's my suggested songs they should not sing along to next. Suggestions: 1. Adele - Hello 2. Queen - You're My Best Friend 3. Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 U 4. No Doubt - Don't Speak 5. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You I, for one, am down for having them to try not to sing along!

The most important scene to explain what HYUNG means
@judskk
@judskk 2 года назад
To add on to the 'oppa,unni' 'hyung,noona' thing, At the start of the series, Ali called Sang-woo 'Sajang-nim' which means 'boss,sir' but as they progress into the series, Ali starts called Sang-woo 'hyung', which means Ali trusted Sang-woo enough to consider him a brother-like figure. It made me hate Sang-woo even more lol
@aegyoadam
@aegyoadam 2 года назад
If I’m not mistaken, Sangwoo asks Ali to start referring to him as hyung too… which just makes it even worse!
@vuechidna
@vuechidna 2 года назад
I'm surprised you didn't use the scene when Ali is calling for Sang Woo during the end of the marbles game. He uses "Hyung" when he calls out to Sang Woo which, if you can believe it, makes his betrayal from Sang Woo even more heart wrenching.

The scene with her brother wasn't the only time Saebyok spoke in North Korean accent. She also spoke it when she was talking with the North Korean broker in Episode 2. North Korean broker was also speaking in North Korean accent but in different dialect. The broker spoke in Pyongyang(NK's capital) dialect while Saebyok spoke in Hamgyeong dialect(the border region betwee NK and China) so you can tell where in NK she is from just by her dialect as well.

Another detail exists in 'The Flower of Mugunghwa has bloomed'. In Korean, this word consists of a total of 10 syllables. This means that the player can move while the tagger counts to ten.

A scene you missed is when Ali was in the marbles game and he was calling out hyung after doing his task that sangwoo gave him. He was saying hyung but the translation was “sangwoo”. It shows how close Ali felt to Sangwoo and that he was like an older brother to only be betrayed by him

Also the confusing part for non-Korean would be 선물 vs Gift. When Sang-Woo explains to Gi-Hun about how he's 600mil in dept, he says he did "Futures". But he actually said he did "Seon-Mul". Which in Korean stock market term means "Stock Futures" which is trading stock of the future which is why it's huge gamble. But "Seon-Mul" also means "Gift" in everyday Korean. So Gi-Hun's response originally was "You bought that much worth of gift to your girlfriend?" This entire dialogue was translated completely differently for obvious reason.
@user-ok4yz1im9f

Narratives are not the everything. Music, expression, delivery, idiosyncrasy, they all make up to it. Movie is synthetic art. Poor translation won't harm enjoyment and understanding.

also, as a younger person, when handing things to older people, you should ALWAYS use two hands. but while handing il-nam the water at the end, gi-hun used only one. you could also see how il-nam registered the change in that scene

I mean if it is your first kdrama or anything Korea related then yeah you sure would have missed this, however if you have watched kdramas before or other tv shows etc (or just have some knowledge on the korean manners and speech) then these are probably things that you picked up on. I would say the only thing that would be hard to know is the character names real meaning besides il nam (since il is 1 and nam comes from namja meaning men which are both very easy words)
@krnnicolie

남 just means male. When I fill out documents for my son here, they have 남 (male) or 여(female). [1 male] Even without watching Kdramas or listening to Kpop, living here you can pick up many things. Also studying helps lol
