Can I ask if you have videos about dogs peeing everything a person our us talk, giving care...when they are exiting or in state of submission? This is a nightmare 😔, thank you so much
Instructor Steve fan club here!! If only I could exhibit half as much calm as he does with the dogs, and he still seems genuinely delighted to see them act like puppies. Love this video, we're using so many of your methods with our 11 week old cowboy corgi. The thing I suffer most from is feeling like I have to work on so many things every day. Hi guys! Yesterday my boyfriend and I brought home our new puppy. I've watched all your puppy training videos new and old and have started crate training him the moment we got home and he slept on the table beside my bed without making too much of a fuss. My problem is he doesn't seem to be interested in playing. Hes scared of everything and I don't want to pressure him too much as hes new to the house and missing his litter however I don't want to lose out on training opportunities as hes already 9 weeks old and will barely follow food. Any ideas as to what I can do to get him more interested so we can do some exercises?

Hi! I need help!! My dog is two years old. he stopped peeing on my house garden, where I taught him to potty as a puppy, and now he will hold his pee for his walk. I have not been able to get him to pee during the day in the garden. One good thing is he won’t pee inside the house. How do I teach him again to go potty in the garden? Please help, I’m frustrated

Hey Steve. We are on an acreage. My dog isn't allowed in the house. He's a garage dog. BUT. When we got him he stayed in the garage not a crate. I have trained this dog off leash very very well. He comes when called. If another dog barks he almost protects me. He stays, sits, comes all off leash. BUT. He pees and poops in the garage. Because we failed. I know it's us. But how do we start again. He's such a smart dog however we are struggling with pees and poops. The garage is open and he comes back inside the garage to pee.

@nino meskhi I am not trying to shame you in anyway, and I don’t know the full story behind your pup, but a 4 week old puppy should still be with its mom and litter mates. Mother dogs naturally wean pups between 6-8weeks, but the earliest a puppy should leave its mother and siblings is 8 weeks. It’s great to start training as soon as you bring your pup home at 8 wks, but a responsible breeder would not let a 4 week old pup go to its new owner that young. I would definitely have the puppy on formula if you don’t own the mother dog or can’t get in contact with the breeder. Best of luck with your little guy!
I was out with my 5 month old Cavapoo puppy a couple of days ago, walking her with a retractable leash..I got her one of those because she is a very active pup and has a lot of whizzing craziness(party time!) but the reason the lead came out of my hand was because she all of a sudden dashed out till the lead reached its limit and came away. It only took a split second and admittedly has made me anxious to the possibility of it happening again. Would welcome helpful tips 🙏🏼
Hey Monique, that sounds scary. The good news is that is preventable in the future, but some things need to change. It sounds like you need to work on some leash respect for loose leash walking with your pup. We recommend using a leather leash which is easy to handle, soft on the hands and has great response when working through loose leash walking on both ends of the leash. I’m struggling so badly :( My goal is to teach my puppy to be a therapy dog but he has such a sensitive stomach. I can’t give him any treats or high value foods without him being sick for days. He’s very motivated to please but, of course, gets very excited with any new distractions and can’t pay attention to me in the moment. I don’t know what to do…any advice?
Hey, not sure about this, but it might be good to look into seeing if your dog is motivated by playing. Some people train their dogs by letting them play for a couple of seconds when they do something good. An example of this is throwing a ball or giving them a ball for a couple of seconds. You could also pair this with a clicker or something so once your dog gets used to the clicker as a form of praise for doing something right, then you only have to use the clicker. I'm not a person who has much experience, just that I have seen some police dogs be trained using play. It might be something to look into.

I did all of these these with success until the third week and now my pup bites me aggressively anytime I ask her to do things or try to grab her collar. What’s that all about?
@gigi wallin Great question! I have dealt with this exact problem. Scenario 1: Your pup may have started to associate the motion of having her collar grabbed with you taking away from something self rewarding. She has decided that biting is her way of telling you that she wants to still have fun. This is a very avoidable and correctable habit to fix. To correct I would incorporate touching her collar with rewarding. You could grab her collar and then play a few seconds of tug. When training young pups, I will some of the time reward a sit, down, spin or any trick with a treat and me holding her collar simultaneously. (I don’t use a clicker as a puppy so I have the free hand to do so). Scenario 2: As you are getting your pup out of the crate, like in this video, when you reach in the kennel your pup bites you. This is not necessarily out of aggression but probably just because she has built up energy and is wanting to play and get a reaction from you. This behavior is correctable by removing your hand and shutting the kennel door if her mouth moves in the direction of your arm. There is no need to physically hurt your pup (positive punishment). Simply shutting the door is enough of a punishment (negative punishment). All your pup wants to do at this point is get out of the kennel, so with enough repetition she will stop the biting. To associate positivity with the crate I will often randomly stick a pup in the crate for 10 seconds or so (I will add a cue to this “go to your crate”), then make them wait to come out as I put their house line back on, and resume a game of tug, or training. Scenario 3: She doesn’t like having her face touched at all. This could be a personality thing or just something she’s decided she doesn’t like. Again, this is 100% correctable and it’s definitely best to correct as young as possible (8wks or older). I’d have your pup on a bed, mat, or just in front of you and start by touching her on her neck (no grabbing collar) and reward with with lots of gentle praise. You can even take the collar of and on also rewarding for this. Same with attaching house line or leash. I hope some of these tips help and good luck with your pup!
Why did you scruff the poor baby!? Way to send shock all through out his nerves by doing that, yes it wasn't a full scruff, but he had a collar there was no need for that. Bad training.
You definitely have a valid point. When my dog wakes up i let her out right away to go pee in the backyard. So when we leave for our walk, we can practice waiting at the door
