No stone left unturned, was worried it was faulty as I have a soltaro clone. Cheers, keep up the good work

a very good video gets my seal of approval . apart from your installer using a impact driver on a terminal rendering your warrantee obsolete , but some great advice in it other than that shocking level of roughness

That was to undo them wasn't to tighten they used toque screwdriver for that

I've had the left hyper battery combo installed on my warehouse, but not commissioned yet as we need installer log in sparks is doing the course this week ,hopefully all up and running by end of the week

I was unaware of the Inverter limitation and anyway wouldn't have understood it's constraints impacting the system when deciding to get it installed. In practice it means that most of the power for the Electric shower comes from the grid even when the battery is fully charged from cheap overnight electricity. Also having any significant usage at the same time as using the kettle will cause importing from the grid.rather than using Solar or battery power. Excellent video as usual Nic😊

Honestly you’re best off getting rid of your electric shower before you’d spend (much more) money on other upgrades for your home.
@edc1569
@edc1569 Год назад
I wouldn’t worry too much about the odd kettle use the money you save in not oversizing the inverter will pay for all the kettle boils you can do in 15 years, as the inverter will still pick up a sizeable chunk of the energy required.

You can get more powerful inverters but lets say you went for a 5kw inverter and your electric shower was 11kw then long as the water wasn't ICE cold and your not scalding your self its likely only pulling 8-9kw of energy meaning 3-4kw of energy from the grid but your only showering for minutes so real energy use is fairly meaningless. You could also go for the solar system am using from heatable (see videos) which means I get battery inverter PLUS the AC solar so that could be 5kw from inverter plus how many panels you have in my case 10 panles is 2.9kw giving 8.9kw when solar is at max power

I (presumably naively) wonder why V2H is not considered potentially an important component of the national battery, and is not being pushed hard as part of our carbon-reduction strategy. Can anyone inform me what the obstructions are , to using your car as a house-battery, given appropriate use as a vehicle?
@JohnR31415
@JohnR31415 Год назад
It should be mandatory on all EVs to have their AC inverters as bi directional.
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo Год назад
Currently only Nissan Leaf and some other chademo cars offer V2H/V2G tech, no one makes a CCS charger for v2g/v2h and no cars can do it via AC either. Its really important to note V2L is not V2G/V2H they are not designed to be hooked up your home and no one makes a bit of kit to do this yet.... I know there's some charge firms testing versions but currently no cars supporting it publicly for higher load demands... v2h does have some issues for home storage and some advantages, 1 major draw back is your home and car are not always together when you may need to store this power or need to use it. A huge advantage of it thou is that its built into your initial purchase

Imagine what it would do to the secondhand market. You’d buy a 10,000 mile car and then find out the battery is exhausted, you’d never buy that brand again.
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo Год назад
@@edc1569 What do you mean? why would it be exhausted
@edc1569
@edc1569 Год назад
@@NicolasRaimo 50kwh battery, you’ve cycled 15kWh through it daily average over 5 years. You’ve put 600 cycles on that pack - not exhausted yet but you get the idea.

HI Nic, if i have an EV and a home battery is it simple to ensure than when charging the car its done directly via the mains and not via the battery? And is that dependent upon the type of battery or inverter or make of either?
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo 9 месяцев назад
Depends how your EV charger is wired to house electrics and battery you could wire it in a way that it wouldn’t drain or have a battery that knows car is charging and pause it… if your on set cheap hours you could even schedule it to not discharge
@Joe-lb8qn
@Joe-lb8qn 9 месяцев назад
@@NicolasRaimo ah yes the latter seems simpler if can tell the battery not to discharge at off peak times since I pretty much never charge my EV outside of those times. Or as I don't have my battery yet I can presumably just get the installer to make sure it's wired such that it cannot draw off the battery at all (might require a separate consumer unit though I'm guessing?)

Standby power is the one big thing for me, it is imperative to have power, I have a noisy diesel to give me the ability to keep going during the downtimes. The first system would not be activated by the installer although it only wanted a changeover auto switch they WOULD NOT DO IT because it was not offered and they only had the one fitting option. The second one was an Enphase one and the installer again refused to allow the software to give a standby option on their input at the fitting. It seems that these companies can and do lock you out of the software stopping upgrades or options. It might be the fact they are also the power companies themselves doing the fitting and want the only option that benefits them on feed in to their system.

Good Video Nick but the earth doesn’t need to be loads of rods around the house just go as deep as you can go, that way only one point of failure and the reading that you get if it changes you know where to start to look for the problem. No point making your own PME
@NicolasRaimo
@NicolasRaimo Год назад
Indeed but 9/10 times its going to be earth rods and easier to explain that for 99% of my audience. There's other challenges with your method also but its kind of to make people aware its not plug and play

You are late to the Micro Inverter party mate. The whole UK is in fact. You can now buy Hybrid Micro Inverter like Ecoflow that can produce energy from solar, save into a battery and pass set load to your property. Much less expensive and you are mostly covering base load you have much faster ROI.
