My insurance just approved my treatment today. I go next Wednesday for my first treatment. I'm super nervous and excited at the same time. I'm praying this works for me. Thank you for the information 😊
It will definitely change your life. Don’t fight back or try to control. Just let it ride and relax. It will be over no matter what. A few times I overdosed myself and stuck in eternity. But, I knew it will be ended. So, I didn’t panic.
I just had my 2nd dose 2 days ago. I see such a difference almost immediately in things like focus, clarity & mood. I went into it expecting nothing so this is a pleasant surprise bc I had no expectations.
I've been on 51 different medications (16 of them antipsychotics). NONE of them have worked! For me especially the antipsychotics was poison to my brain, they worsened my depression, anxiety and gave me SEVERE unrest :( I live in Norway and here they refused me treatment, so I've been taking it on my own for 6 months now... The only problem is that after 3-4 weeks being of it I start hearing voices faaaar away at night if I wake up in the middle of the night, it only happens at night though... But when I take a low dose of Ketamine (especially (R)-Ketamine) my voices disappear COMPLETELY after 5-10 min and doesn't return again in a while! :) But my depression, anxiety and unrest is COMPLETELY GONE!!! (Doesn't seem to return AT ALL either!)
This is the thing with antipsychotis being unrest every minute of your life. Espesially at the start i didnt know the side effect of it, i was actually terrified. I couldn't hold myself still for more than 10 sec. I told my doc about it,and she prescribed me different medication for that side effect. I didnt buy it tho, i try to resist, but i eventually went off of it. It's so disappointing how these companies are making tons of money out of our misery but still can't do the job right. they are useless
It irks me that everything that is actually helpful is unattainable because of the outrageous price. It is a vicious circle, knowing that I will feel this way; probably forever because I could never afford the treatment I actually need. *(Sigh)*
Thanks for telling me what I've known for 6 years! For real! K changed my life and it's the only thing that helped me survive getting the coronavirus twice. At one point I actually thought that I had died and crossed over to the other side not from the ketamine but from the coronavirus and the ketamine taught me not to actually kill myself for real.
@@moniqueengleman873 My mother was tortured by this psychiatric treatment and lost her memory and was never the same woman after it .. it’s barbaric for some people .
@@fifilamoore1718 my costs are 250$ a month. 60mg a day every day. Pain, depression, insomnia. It drastically weakens the effects if you take it everyday. For a week or two the 60mg is pretty crazy. I’m looking to get off the every day thing and use it one a week/as needed.
@@barbm1001 depends on severity and frequency. If it’s a few times a week and lasts a couple hours the there is a decent chance ketamine therapy could benefit you. If you need to use it 3x a day I would say it’s not a good fit. I would say for anxiety it’s effects are mild to moderate (dose dependent).
So my personal experience with seeking out ketamine treatment the major difference in cost and time ended up being my deciding factor. IV treatment not covered by insurance worked out to approximately $500 a treatment with 1 hour of in office time and intranasal treatment with insurance coverage would have cost $900 with 2 or more hours of in office time. How in the world does insurance covered treatment cost more than uncovered treatment? Regardless the effects have been very positive and have become an important part of my overall treatment.
Interesting so is the intrnasal more money then iv?? What did you end up doing the iv ketamine ? I’m interested in this but just haven’t figured out what to do !
@@debbielynnsmellowminutesme7909 it would depend on your insurance and the pharmacy that you used for Spravato. For me it ended up being more cost effective to do the IV treatment. I have done both treatments and for me the iv treatments had a longer positive duration than Spravato and I am able to go longer between treatments with the iv. BUT make sure you talk with your provider before pursuing either they should have a lot of good information for you to make a good choice.
my doctor echoes Fact 4 at 2:17, that the nasal spray isn't that successful. He was tellin' me that ECT shock treatment had better figures. I hated hearing that since ECT is nothing more than a practical joke on the patients in my experience. It IS good at erasing one's brain, but hardly a resolution to depression. When i asked doc why esketamine is getting rave reviews everywhere i look, he credited the manufacturer for that. Having dealt with this nonsense for decades, i'm seriously considering getting ketamine on the street and trying that method. Probably cheaper, too
Well there’s more research that has been done, and it’s shown that it helps with resistant treatment depression, so if that’s not what you’re taking it for, then of course you’re not going to experience the full benefit. This is for people that I’ve taken boatloads of antidepressants, SNRI, SSRI. and not received much benefit. This isn’t for just depression. It’s for treatment resistant depression
I know this comment is a year old, but I just wanted to let you know about some things. Spravato has a special coupon type thing on their website for people who have non-government insurance that makes it soo much cheaper, and they also have other programs to help with payment. I have Medicaid, and they are covering it because I have tried so many anti-depressants that have stopped working or not worked at all. Also, be sure to been completely honest about how your mental health is, even if you’re scared to (like I was). I think me being honest about my chronic suicidal ideation really helped my insurance realize that we had to try something new and more drastic. I was still shocked when I got the call that Medicaid agreed to pay though. I am actually having my first session in an hour from now! I’m really hoping it will help me. I’ve heard sooo many good things about it.
I just did 9 treatments of Spravto, not on any other antidepressants. Aft 6th started feeling badly days after ,this was at half dose 28mg. Went ot 56mg I was out of it for days. never doing it a gain. such a disapointment that I can be just sick for days after by 5 th day i'm ok.
Dr , I am treatment resistant depression patient living in Canada , still Spravato under Canada health review ,after listening to your video ,I will stick to IV ketamine. however, my concern how many ketamine infusion in the long term I need if I finished 7 treatment infusion in one month do I need to take every month 1 infusion lifetime . Because my concern that I will travel from New Brunswick to the nearest city that ketamine infusion center is available .
Each patient is different and will get boosters at varying times, depending upon their needs. Please discuss with your ketamine specialist the optimal timing for you, Hany!
Im on Aetna and trying to get this. Ive been on multiple anti depressants since i was a kid and ive gone to multiple forms of therapy too. It just doesnt work. I dont do anything anymore. I sleep. Hopefully theyll accept that my "current" episode has been going on for at least a decade. I have an appointment set up and im remaining hopeful the doctor and insurance will agree.
@@TasmanianTigerGrrr I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, it will take a few months of treatment to determine if there are positive results, but for the first day I did it I felt great the whole day
I need to get a hold of this doctor. I have been treating my friends and family. I would like to come see you so we can chemistry and also combo's as far neurogenesis and plasticity and also ketamine combinations. I'm on a stimulant called Vyvanse and I don't think the two go together very well but I have used diazepam to calm my nerves before I use ketamine but I have had blackouts from it. I recently did a mix of ketamine in nasal spray bottles and I wasn't sure how much saline to mix because I couldn't get the proper dosage recommendations.
I'm trying to get approved for ketamine treatment with the VA but I'm not very confident in their ability to administer it correctly . here in Oklahoma they tend to screw up just about everything they do . the treatment Clinic is in an old run-down Hospital in Muskogee the place looks like a setting for a Stephen King novel .
Please don't be sad , I was approved for treatment through an outside provider a very caring and compassionate clinic with a peaceful and tranquil treatment room administered by a nurse anesthesiologist who is a delightful wonderful person that really does care . I had a series of 12 infusions followed by 6 boosters . I'm 67 years old now and this has done more to change my life than anything I've ever pursued in the past . My clinical depression disappeared , no more suicidal ideation , my clarity of thought and focus and concentration is off the charts . I became interested in philosophy and read everything I could get my hands on particularly stoicism . I cleaned up my diet and lost 80 pounds . I reevaluated everything in my life and discarded those relationships that were harmful and no longer served me . I reconnected with family and strengthened my relationship with my true friends I went for my very shy person that would give up easily and let people take advantage of me to someone who is very aggressive , assertive and uncompromising but not in an obnoxious way I'm very civil and polite and now have the ability to get what I want while making others feel good about themselves at the same time . I've become interested in the Bible and have so many questions . I'm still on the fence about becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ but I believe I will get there . i've considered myself an atheist since my early teen years. but now i am open to the concept of a realm outside of time and space and a divine creator that loves me and wants the best for me. Ketamine broke down the walls that I had put up it dissolved my ego and has allowed me to recognize when I am trying to deceive myself . I would recommend it to anyone who is struggling with their personal demons . God bless you and peace be upon you . @@barbm1001
Not much research in this area since ketamine is a generic drug & limited incentives for a pharmaceutical company to invest significant research funds to it. BUT, this study from Yale Psychiatric Institute looked at over 30 months of ketamine administration with no long term adverse effects in their small sample group. Scientific article link here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6296748/
Thanks for sharing,I am getting the infusion next week and then go to nasal because I can not get the ketamine infusion more than that because insurance does not cover that but does the nasal spray. Hoping the one infusion gives me a jump start.🥰 Do I need to ask if the Dr is using generic/ I was told 1 infusion cost 460.00 and wonder if the generic is less costly. I am not sure yet what the spravoto will cost yet. I have to pay 33% I think but my insurance did approve that but it is a tier 5 which cost more. for the prescription.
Great question, since mice aren't able to express articulately, they use other tests that are supposed to model depression. Why would they use the S molecule and not the R? How can u get your dr to prescribe the compounded nasal spray and is it expensive? I am on round 9 of Spravato. Felt better for first 3 weeks and now i feel less joy during the treatment and my depression is back
By isolating the S molecule, the pharmaceutical company can create a patent. The majority of doctors are not comfortable with prescribing nasal compounded ketamine and the prices vary depending upon pharmacy.
Been talking to a Spravato rep. Waiting for phone call about costs. I'm already feeling disappointed because one...the only Dr. within driving distance (35miles away) doesn't provide my insurance. So, apart from whatever the cost of the med. i have to take that into account. Second, wife is against anything that costs money...so i won't have a driver to drive me home after it each time.
@@ResetKetamine yes, but you have to have your driver present the whole time so you prove it to them. Wife MIGHT bring me, just depends. No treatment centers within 100 miles so far. I have a kind of bad feeling about all of that. Over two months now and only 3 or so. YOu'd think the Drs. would be way ahead of this even before it was approved. Seems like they're aren't too interested.
@@rachelschwebach7566 Yes, that's for sure! This is like the proverbial carrot in front of the rabbit for me. Treatment center might show up in a week, or a year...who knows.

I was receiving ketamine infusions for 7 days in hospital and was pain free for up to 12 mths , I moved states and they won’t do infusions , I do now get nasal ketamine compounded and it’s in my fridge . It’s not as affective and I seem to be be getting tolerant and need more , it’s a low does 10ml/0.01% ketamine for 90mls. I’m also ,taking tramadol and codeine which do nothing for my chronic pain , ( Ehlers Danlos syndrome , severe endometriosis and dislocated tailbone and osteoarthritis throughout my joints . Trying PEA when I can afford it . Would taking something like a fentayln patch and stop the other meds help ? As the spray costs me $160 for a month but I use it in 3 weeks ... Ketamine gives me no withdrawal at all which I like . I’ve been on morphine , methadone tablets , norspan patches . Truly at the end of coping , the ketamine is the only thing that helps ...any suggestions ? Thanks Ps the infusions were so good I stopped taking 60 mg of methadone ( tablet form ) after my last one and had three month of pain free.
@@plavac5131 it’s not spravato brand it’s compounded by a chemist pure ketamine and distilled water in a nasal spray that I refill , two sprays up each nostril every 20-40mins keeps me in the pain free zone. It’s a feeling that I’ve gotten used to , slightly dissociative but I can walk unaided and stand up which I can’t do without the ketamine. I’m highly allergic to preservatives and chemicals so that’s why it’s made up like this . It costs $160 for 130mls every two weeks .
Racemic ketamine in intravenous form is a more robust treatment, 100% bioavailability, can be tailored to each person’s need, and is backed by years of research.
Can I do ketamine while on morphine or other opioids? I'm sure you probably aren't allowed to do so legally in the clinic. I'm just curious for personal use, I have a high opioid dependence and I'm gonna try ketamine just want to know if they react with each other.
I just finished my IV ketamine this month for my ptsd. It’s definitely help my mood and some anxiety. I’m still working with the ptsd tho . I have a really strong fear response so I’m hoping overtime ketamine is working in the background creating new pathways. But the IV is nice that it’s more controlled and I do get the higher bp so they monitor that along with some anti nausea meds . But now they have a hard time getting my vein and I have to make appointments with only the anesthesiologist so that’s a pain. I think now after my iv 7 treatments I want to switch to this intra nasal would be nice as long as they can deal with bp and nauseous. Not sure how that works . Be nice to not have the IV stick .. i have hard time getting them anyways .

Saying that the Nasal version MAY NOT be very effective for treating depression? Wow, after scraping up all your money to try it when you can't even afford it??
We wish nasal or even intravenous ketamine was guaranteed effective. That's why it's so important to be educated about ketamine before making a financial commitment to getting treatments. Hopefully insurance companies will change and improve their coverage!
I am considering ketamine: My 25-yr severe dry eyes from chemical accident, though pretty much cured, I can’t seem to shake off its resultant symptoms : severe knots in neck and shoulders, a tight chest, compromised adrenals, very shallow breathing, loss of bone n muscles, altered consciousness-like drunk. Right for me?
So far spravato has worked for me. I just don't wanna a have to take it twice a week and sit in the office for four hours a week for the rest of my life...so there's that. My doctor is talking two years at least
Thanks for posting this info. I am seeking all the info I can find regarding this therapy because of treatment resistant depression. Would waiting for two hours in clinic post treatment be difficult or would the treatment have a mild relaxation effect?
Our pleasure! Our patients after their ketamine infusion often feel relaxed. As we don't currently offer this form of ketamine, we can only assume a similar experience. Where ever you go for for this therapy, you could inquire what the setting is like for the waiting after? Setting is very important! We like to incorporate calming music and eye shades. hope this helps
Speaking from personal experience, yes, you will most likely be verrrry relaxed. In fact, when you have to go to the bathroom, nurses are going to put you in a wheelchair and roll you to the bathroom as you're not even going to be able to walk. Jelly legs! Most clinics will serve you a meal, if they're set up for that. I got a sack lunch and believe me, it all tasted like heaven! You have your treatment and then you're under observation for about three-four hours. The medical staff will take your blood pressure and pulse frequently. You will be very safe.
Thanks for the info. I have a teenage niece who suffers from suicidal ideation. I was considering Spravato for her because she is refusing the IV route due to a phobia about having her veins punctured with a needle. The Spravato website indicates that the medication can cause suicidal ideation so I'm leery that it could make her symptoms worse. Because Spravato is only the S raceme, it makes more sense to go the usual compounded ketamine intranasal even if it has less bioavailability than the IV. I'm assuming the total bioavailability could be boosted by more dosages.
IV Ketamine has the same caution and side effects as Spravoto, you just don't see it because their is no "IV bottle" to put the label on. Your daughter is very courageous for taking this step and I wish you and her well.

@@julia-ex7im hi. I went once. It was quite an experience and I can see how it might be helpful. After the treatment, I felt really stoned for 3-4 days. I have benzo tolarance withdrawl I'm supposed to start ketamine. Will the ketamine help all my withdrawl symptoms. I take 3mlg valium still. I'm still tapering
Just curious, how long did it take you to taper of valium? I know it's got a crazy half life of like 96 hours or something like that. I was on klonopin and took 2 months to taper off of 2mg/day. Hope you're feeling better
Ketamine has some differences. 1) A different mechanism of action neurochemically. Ketamine works on the NMDA receptors blocking the glutamate neurotransmitter. 2) Shorter time period. Ketamine sessions are about an hour long. MDMA can be 6-8 hours. 3) Ketamine is legal and available now.
Thanks for your question. You bring up an even bigger issue - why are medications so expensive? Spravato is FDA approved, and similar to other new medications that are released - are notoriously expensive. Does it need to be? probably not! That being said, factors that could influence cost can include research and development costs, manufacturing processes, and regulatory requirements.
Esketamine (in particular Spravato) treatments that are covered by insurance require observation in a clinic after it is given. However, there are other forms of ketamine, that can be taken at home such as oral lozenges, however they often are not covered by insurance and because it is not given under the direct in-person supervision (like in a clinic) - if you run into issues or complications, you won’t have a medical professional there to help you.
I’m about to do a clinical trial for esketamine to treat TRD. Im scared something horrible will happen. what if it f^cks my brain up and i end up mental incompetent for the rest of my life?? Is this a possibility?? Can anything really bad happen?
Well if you go in there with that mentality then you’re gonna end up having something bad happen because of your own thoughts. The medication is supposed to go straight through the neural pathways of the brain, and help build them back up. Some people don’t experience any benefit, there’s a 40 to 60% efficacy rate currently. But nothing that’s deleterious or permanently damaging currently.
Is there any interaction with suboxone, specifically the Naloxone which is in suboxone ? Wikipedia indicates that Naltrexone potentiates psychotomimetic effects of Ketamine and naloxone is similar to naltrexone.
Hi Jay, There hasn't been any studies looking at ketamine for Adderall withdrawal, but primarily for treatment-resistant depression. Check out the article here: www.resetketamine.com/blog/2018/3/29/how-ketamine-improves-depressive-symptoms-a-neurotransmitter-perspective
A friend of mine got Intranasal for 125. Intravenous is 3x as much. That's why she does not do infusions bc it's bleeding her dry. What about ppl that cannot tolerate the hallucinations of intravenous? Are they screwed? Plus what about nerve pain?
More and more insurance companies are beginning to cover ketamine infusion, which hopefully in time will help costs. Active hallucinations can be a contraindication to getting ketamine therapy - thus having a thorough exam and consultation with a ketamine specialist is key. Ketamine infusions can be helpful with nerve pain, but again a consultation with a specialist near you is key. Thank you for your question.

Spravato is the nasal spray, aka esketamine. It's only administered in a doctor's office. You can't get it from a pharmacy. So you must be getting something else
Wrong. You can get the Rx from dr on zoom call at your house and administer at home. I live In Missouri I know for sure you can get the nasal spray I just talked to the doctor about it today!
Right, he doesn’t even go into any detail explanation or cite any sources. Just a bunch of malarkey, to justify charging 600 or more dollars a pop for an IV treatment, that could take up to three treatments before you even see any results.
Each person’s medical history is unique and would be best to get a consultation to see if ketamine therapy (esketamine or IV) would be a good fit for you. If you go to askp.org you’ll find a directory of clinics close to you so you can schedule a consultation with a provider to see if you are a candidate for this treatment, as well as address any special nuances to your care. Take care!
Hello i want to ask you if ketamine infusion and nasal spray spravato have same results? I asked you that because some people use infusion and other use spravato spray, why?
AN IV, with direct entry into one's blood stream,...should always be more powerful; the full dose reaches targeted receptor-sites...right?! Right. Nasal sprays are very effective too,...over more time apparently. And, people differ in their' ability to absorb them into the blood stream.
